I am so grateful to have been fortunate enough to visit a few months before the fire. I spent a good hour just sitting under the Banyan tree watching Mama Hen and her 11 babies do their chickeny thing right beside me. Mama even sat down on the bench at my side for a moment. I had wished we could experience a rain squall and while we were there, that's exactly what happened. Walking along afterwards the warm water running down the street felt lovely on my feet. Our hearts ache hard for everyone affected in that magical place. I hope to one day come back and experience that magic again and celebrate the rebirth.

OMG. I can't stop crying seeing your video. I stay in Maui every year to refocus my core energy weed out all unwanted noises. I miss all beautiful places. Beautiful people always smiling and calm sweet loving people whom take great care of their business. Kihei to all the way down to Wailea. Big beach... small beach... walking all the way to the lava spill... Wow. I am speechless. Thank you for sharing.... I truly appreciate for your time and effort producing this video. XOXO

We've been to Maui many times, and have walked up and down Front Street at least one time during every visit. Have sat under the banyan tree having a snack and a drink. It's hard to comprehend the devastation from the fire. I can only hope the people of Lahaina are made whole and can once again enjoy their homes in the beautiful place.

Was just looking at pics yesterday. Our 4th trip to Maui. Normally stay in S Kihei but stayed in Lahaina. We took friends that hadn’t been before. Although it rained almost the whole time we still had amazing trip. We all got Tattoos at little shop off front street. Skin Factory Artist name is Taki . Still have her in my texts. Just broke my heart when I woke to the news. It’s was heart stopping. To see where we grabbed a plate and looked out at all the amazing places and heritage. The Banyan Tree was beautiful. Oh the stories I’m sure those twisted limbs and branches could tell. Lord knows we had a few to tell too lol. I will hold that place and those family lost and those that had to restore their lives. Mahalo ❤

Watching this with tears in my eyes. Back in the 80’s and 90’s , my friends and I built many of the homes and businesses on Front St. We built Bob and Gail Longhi’s home, his son’s home and remodeled the restaurant. Also many other art galleries, restaurants and homes there. All are completely gone … so sad. Our hearts ache for the people of Maui. I lived there for years and they are some of the best memories I have. No matter what is rebuilt, it will never be as beautiful as the old Lahaina. Maui no ka oi!

Back in the 70s I had a sailboat in Lahaina harbor and lived up in Napili. I had so many wonderful moments in Lahaina. I loved sitting under the banyan tree or grabbing breakfast on the patio at the Pioneer Inn. Cooking my own Mahi in their restaurant is another treasured memory. Walking down front street and window shopping, especially with friends from the mainland was awesome. It has been decades since I had to move back to the mainland but as I watched Lahaina burn on TV I just cried and cried. Thanks for this update, it gives me hope.

I went through the terrible LNU fire 2020 in California. The Maui fire has given me much PTSD. This video has given me much healing. I fully understand the timeline and I greatly appreciate knowing what's been done and seeing the progress. Those that have not been through this type of event expect everything to turn around in a week or a month and that's not going to happen. This process is at least a 3-year project. Everyone hang in there, we will all get through this together. Thank you very much for these video updates They are uplifting.

Even google maps used it as an opportunity to make blue river oregon show up not on the blue river or in the town, but on a random spot of the mckenzie river 10 mins upstream. It was a town on the map until that fire and google immediately changed the towns location

Thank you for sharing, this video answered a lot of my questions about not only the progress made but the processes being done to clean up the materials. I was just in Maui last week for my annual vacation, and was so sad as I drove past Lahaina and could see the devastation from the highway. With that said, I still had the most amazing and relaxing vacation as the rest of Maui is still alive and well although many people who work in the other locations are directly affected by this or lost family members. The number one rule if you are planning a visit to Maui is to NOT ask the locals questions about the fire. If they want to talk about the fire they will, but many are still grieving and do not want to be reminded of this tragic event.

I spent 3 summers roaming the Front Street area as a young boy in the early 80s. My mom worked at the Wharf and lived in a awesome little ramshackle neighborhood on the ocean down where the Luau center sits now. A stone's throw from the old pier and Jodo Mission. I've always been sad that neighborhood is gone, but all of this is SO heartbreaking! I'm curious to know if they're going to restore the Jodo Mission... Glad to hear some progress is being made on the residence side at least. Thank you for the documentation. Following!

I met so many displaced locals who are still struggling to re-establish themselves. The response by local, state and federal government has been sickening, especially the federal government. The community there needs more help. Badly.

I live in Chico California 10 miles to the east is Paradise California. Back in November 2018 there was the Camp Fire that took out a town of 30,000. The next day it was determined that at least 95 percent of Paradise was gone and 86 people lost their lives. Now fast forward to 2024 Paradise is being rebuilt there's about 10,000 people living in the town as of April 30 24. Now what in Hawaii is tragic but like Paradise you will rebuild and it's going to take Long time for things to get back to normal but remember if Paradise can do it so can Lihiena... God bless.

Just returned last night from a week on Maui. The recovery is slow, the roads are still restricted and there are workers at every entrance into the affected areas making sure only residents are allowed access. It was truly sad to see how bad it is. Donated cash at the Round Table Pizza on Kekaa Dr to show my support and made sure we made our purchases at the locals pop up tents and small roadside vendors. Was an amazing time and great talking to the locals. They are so laid back and welcoming. With all the rains, the California foothill brush is bright green. Back in late June 1984, I took a high school graduation trip to Hawaii for 7 days spending about 3 days in Lahaina and going to Moose McGuillycuddy's bar on Front Street. Back then the legal drinking age was 18. I can't remember the hotel where we stayed but that it was a two or three story building and walking distance to Front Street.

I appreciate all of your hard work to keep those of us who love Maui & historic Lahaina town updated. I have been there many times. Many lunches at Kimo’s! I am heartsick to see the aftermath of the horrific fire. I am glad however to see all the progress being made to clean up & glad so much of the work is being done by the beautiful people of Maui. The sprit of Aloha will never fade! God bless the people & the hard work being done to restore Lahaina.

Thank you, Jesse, for providing us with the current video of Lahaina town, specifically Front Street. I have enjoyed walking Front Street repeatedly in the past 8 years. We have a timeshare in West Maui and every day we are there, our first stop is Front Street. I'd sit under the Banyan tree and people-watch! It was great fun and now, I'll never be able to walk on Front Street like it was before. So sad!

Jesse, as a many time visitor of Lahaina Town, I really appreciate the updates you have posted of this great Community. I know the videos are “only 12-13 minutes” but the work you put into each recording, editing and narration takes many more hours. Mahalo for all you do. Hope to visit Maui in 2024 and the videos are inspiring for all of those who love the community.

I've never been to Hawaii, but I believe the more people who watch this the more awareness the locals continue to get from the rest of the country. I'm still quite worried about the local's current situations and pray that you may you all recover and be given a proper chance to rebuild

I visited Lahaina a lifetime ago. It is good to see that work began on some of the historic masonry buildings. I hope they restore/rebuild all of the old buildings. Where complete rebuilding is needed I hope that sea level rise is considered.

Very interesting. There are conspiracy theories that the fire was started to allow for a transfer of land. Cannot get a feel for it by your video, but from your narration, it sounds like the locals there expect for things to get back to the way they were before this event. Thanks for this real life view of the way things are and were. 🙏

Used to work on Front Street. This makes my heart ache like losing a person you share a lot of history with. 😢 Plant it up and please rebuild in the same style buildings. It will never be the same but I hope businesses rebuild for local jobs, and affordable housing is built for the local working population. Rebuild the senior apartments with a lot of safety features. ❤️❤️❤️

Try 5.5yrs in Paradise Ca. The Camp Fire is still haunting us. Driving the roads you see where cars burned the road & people died. The utility co that caused the fire has yet to pay for the destruction. I am moving in my rebuilt house next month with the help of a little ins $ & a charity. Be patient & love one another❤

Greetings from Redondo Beach 🇺🇸. Maui is one of our best vacation spot almost every year for 20 years. We’ve made it a point not to miss driving down to Lahaina. Watching this video made me sad seeing closely how the town was ruined with fire. We’ve recently spent our vacation in Waikiki Beach and missed going to Maui this year because of this sad catastrophe. We hope to be back in the coming years. Here’s hoping for the best to the community of Lahaina. Always praying for the best years to come. 🥰

Love you Maui. Have been to Lahaina probably 35 times since mid 70’s. Celebrated my 21st birthday under Banyan Tree, skinny-dipped at 7 sacred pools by Hana, and heard Kenny Loggins/Jim Messina at Pioneer Inn before they even cut their first Album. I have so many lasting memories and hope the reconstruction goes well and stays close to its historical roots and look for the time I can come walk Front Street again.
