@@shoots_austin it's true he makes pop music. But pop music doesn't automatically translate to bad music. And while there are similarities between OK Computer and A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships I think The 1975 have changed things up so much they deserve to be recognized as originals. Also I don't think Matty copied Thom Yorke in his mannerisms. He's very unique and androgynous. Thom Yorke isn't like Matty at all.

@@shoots_austin well if you think Chocolate is their best song I don't really know what to tell you. Lyrically its one of their weakest songs. They make dynamic and interesting pop music. I prefer The 1975 record over OK Computer. I am not a 14 year old girl. I am a 24 year old woman. And many older people enjoy their music. If they were only targeting the teen market Matty would not sing or talk so openly about his previous drug use. I do agree that Matty is the main ficus in the group but to call the rest of the band session musicians is just wrong. George, the drummer of the band produced the entire latest record and the other two help write guitar leads and bass lines. I wish you could see the band they way I do. But I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I think that the things he mentions about social issues and the aspects of life enables me to get a more meaningful understanding to those topics? He really explains things on a much deeper and mechanistic level than most people do, and it requires me to think more on the different perspectives of all these things in life. Some of the things he said made me go "oh i never thought of it like that" or "oh that's interesting let me look into that". Like when he talks about how "our world is always going to be hyper sensitive because we've designed it as an idea by letting ourselves fall into an algorithm of waking up and giving attention to the chaos." I guess it's mostly knowledge of anthropology but i reckon it's still expands our day to day comprehension. Maybe it's not for everyone but I really do think his interviews provide a beginning or even more in depth grasp on such topics. (also maybe cause i've watched it three times). hope this answered your question.

@@kaildelune yeah i see what you're saying, i went to school for marketing and journalism so that part didn't seem like anything new to me. But I'm glad you found something out of it though! I think the problem with the interviews i've seen with Matty is that the interviewers ask him these big loaded questions and he tries to give a big loaded answers. He rarely talks about music or fellow artists. I've seen a few interviews with him and I don't recall him talking about music that much, which seems odd. He always seems to being trying to tackle bigger subjects. There's better, smarter people for that. I'm not saying he should just shut up and play music but he doesn't need to wax philosophic all the time either. I really want to like this band, i haven't liked a popular band in a long time and i really like some of their songs, i just think Matty is being propped up (and propping himself up) as some kind of deep thinker / artists type (like a Kurt Cobain) and he's just not on that level. He makes good music, he writes good lyrics. We all recognize him as being an artist, he doesn't have to be a philosopher. I think if Matty just let loose and stop trying to be insightful all the time he could say something actually insightful! But I'm happy if anybody finds something from him and his art. Art is for people to enjoy, and his songs put me in a good mood in the morning. Everybody's going to get something different out of it. Like I said I'm trying to be a fan of this band (i saw them at Coachella in 2016 and loved it!) I should probably stop watching interviews and just enjoy the music! Have a good day
