We say "lest we forget" in this country. Yet thousands of men and woman are still being killed in war. We don't forget. We never learn. No peace shall ever come from war.
Family history is always amazing to learn about and know.
I think of what hideous egos start wars and make wonderful young men lose their lives. It's a hope that they're in heaven enjoying mansions of glory.

Your comment promptly brought me to tears. What a lovely sentiment, Linda.
Wish you would put part 1 and so forth on these, end up watching the story back to front
Always touching to honor the un sung heros. Bless them.
I’m so sorry to hear of your family’s loss!!
What a Hero 🥇
I would hazard that he was so badly and mortally wounded that he did not wish to burden his comrades with caring for him on the battlefield and took his own life as an inevitability.

you can't guess
Us Americans have a deep personal connection to WWII but not the Great War. It’s eye opening to see just how much it directly affected British families

I think most people in the UK have some connection WW1. Myself I had a great grandfather who was in the Great War from start to finish. He was a professional soldier not conscripted. He was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers. One of their main tasks was to dig the trenches. He hated gardening. He kept a diary. He talks about being at Ypres. About the heavy bombing and of friends that were killed. .
After the death of my father I found out I'm half Greek! That to me is is a shocker! I'm born in South Africa!

Matthew please, please keep a yearly doctors checkup on your twins, for your brothers sake and memory.
You mean, his father, Stephen Fry’s twin ?
If that isn't PTSD I don't know what is.

What a horrible waste of a generation.
What a waste of youth !! I don’t want to be a hero, thank you very much ? It wasn’t exactly a war for freedom and liberation to justify all this loss of life . Let those who aspire for dreams of empire and greatness , do the fighting themselves .
