I'm not even much of a Friends fan, but as an entertainer and personality, he was so naturally funny. His openness about the depths of his struggles was inspiring. His talent will be missed.

He wasn’t completely open with his struggle. He was addicted to cocaine while filming friends. He did finally admit it when he was promoting his book. I watched several interviews with him and he had mental health issues that people pretended didn’t exist. He claimed to have relapsed 60-70 times. I’m sure it was more than that and means that he was rarely sober. It’s too bad that he didn’t get the help he needed.

@@kayk2956I don’t think anyone is ever completely open with others about their struggles, friends and family rarely know how best to support those they love, especially when it comes to addiction and mental health struggles. It’s just so complex, all of it. If only a hug or the right words would make it all better……… 🪄 I’m so sad for him, his friends and his family, it’s tragic really.

I'm just sitting here @ almost midnight watching "friend's"& Matthew of course said a funny line & I laughed out loud! Then my mind remembered what my ❤ has not forgotten. I thought "is Matthew really gone? How can it possibly be true?" Then I said to myself "I really love him. He was my "friend". And he always will be & dang he is so sexy! I'm not making light of this horrible truth that we have been 💔 heartbroken over this huge loss we have all suffered. I just miss my friend, that I never met, but I feel so close to. Thank you for making me & everyone around the 🌎 world laugh & also for using your "big, terrible thing" ,(did I mess that up?),to help others suffering for so many years to come. @@kathiwhite-rasanen2 As one who's been there with pharmaceuticals mixed with hard liqour, obviously not to the 55 Vicodin a day thing, but I was putting away my share of whatever I could get my hands on, that book is extremely difficult to read in places. I've never really hidden that I'm in recovery, and people come to me for "where do I start to end this hell I'm living" kinds of questions, I truly admired Matt Perry for doing kind of what a lot of us do, but on such a massive, arguably global, scale. He truly wanted as many people as possible to know what happened and how it can be ended, even if it takes 50 tries (it took me 4), it can be done. Not only did we lose a great talent, but an extraordinary man who just wanted to be remembered for helping people...not some sitcom. I think if he had one wish, whether one has a problem or not, it would be for everyone to read his book. Because even those who don't have the same problems almost certainly know someone who does, and understanding by those without those problems is also invaluable to those of us who've lived it, as you know.

@user, That's for sure. I'm furious that he did that to himself. Didn't he ever stop and think Elvis? There was a very public example right there. How could he have been so stupid? I know many addicts, practicing and recovering ones. No one went to those extremes and they had far bigger reasons to do so than him. I actually went to AA conferences with friends back in the late 70's and early 80's and those stories were inspirational and funny as hell. His is totally depressing and whiny with the most stupid excuses. I don't think he ever got sober or got the program. I never watched Friends or was a fan of Matthew Perry. I understand how people feel because I think what if it had been Frasier. I thank God it wasn't Kelsey Grammer. I'm sorry for everyone's loss and I hope Matthew is finally at peace. TBH -- I never saw the reincarnation of "The Odd Couple." But I would've had Matthew Perry pegged as Felix , rather than Oscar. ... RIP to very talented man.

@user, I know. He made the perfect Oscar. Both were slobs. In his younger Chandler Bing days he would have been Felix but not now with how he looked and what he turned into. The Odd Couple was a good show. The original was the Best.

Anyone else sense Matty feeling slightly peeved when Letterman thinks he stole the 'Chinese food' joke from Seinfeld, when in actuality its one of the many witty interactions between Chandler & Joey in S1 of Friends? (At 5:05)

No I don’t think he was peeved, honestly I think Matthew couldn’t even have told you where he got that joke from. It was season 1 ep 24 btw when Ross is going to China, just saw it then remembered this interview

Scrolled too far to find this comment hahaha I laughed good seeing him recite a Chandler joke even if it was unintentional. I don’t think he was bothered by Letterman saying it was Seinfeld territory as the joke could come across as Jerry-esque. I’m sure overall he was just happy to make Letterman and the audience laugh
