In this 2 part episode, we begin with the conclusion of my interview with Lawrence Schick, who is now speaking as Lawrence Ellsworth, author, editor, and translator of awesome swashbuckling tales (including Red Sphinx, the sequel to Dumas' Three Musketeers). Lawrence also talks a bit more about how lore works in conjunction with voice acting.
In the larger segment, I read a chapter from my new book, Vintage Games 2.0: An Insider Look at the Most Influential Games of All Time. The chapter is on SimCity.

Thanks for the series with Lawrence Schick, he's absolutely fascinating to listen to. And the Sim City history was an interesting bonus as well. :) Played the PC original a lot and it was revolutionary; it's not hard to imagine it was a hard sell. Re ESO, there's an absolute horde of people playing on the PC EU server at least, and the NA server is actually supposed to have more players. I'm recruiting for several guilds, and the influx of new and returning players (from the early days) has been running strong for a long time.

I've always though "Dark Elves" were pronounced "Duimer". Excellent interview.

So is Bill Loguidice not contributing to Vintage Games 2.0? I read the original volume and your other books a while back and I enjoy the writing style, though it's a question of how useful it would be now that I'm doing truly in-depth research. Shick's a nice guy with some cool eccentricities. We talked briefly a while back about some of his time at Microprose, though I'm hoping to get a full interview some time.

George Henson We've decide to go separate ways professionally speaking. If you want to follow his work, I believe he still maintains Armchair Arcade.

Matt Barton Right, thanks for clarifying! I try to keep an update on people in the game history field, so I just wanted to know. Best of luck with the book!

Great reading and interesting content in the book. Are you considering releasing it in audiobook form via Audible? I would definitely buy it.

Interesting idea. I'll ask the publisher. I don't see why not.

Excellent episode, as usual. One ask: please, make the sound volume of the intro and outro in your episodes level with the rest of the video; it's hella annoying to go scrambling for the remote for no good reason; we've already got ads for that. Is there any reason - which I can't fathom - why you'd have it set up this way intentionally?

Not intentional. I guess it's hard for me to estimate it manually. I'll try to remember to lower the volume with the indicator next time.

The original Apple II's had superior keyboards compared to the C64. Nowadays though, even Macs have terrible keyboards, and a C64 is certainly more comfortable to type on.
