I just ordered the beautiful hard cover version from book depository, so I’m sure I’ll totally forget about it and receive it in the mail in 3 months. Can’t wait!

That slow-boat-to-China aspect of Book Depository is one of my favorite aspects of the site!

So glad this was the Penguin for today! We really need the joy and exuberance of Dumas in these trying times. The Ellsworth translations are fantastic. Hope your sneezing ceases, Steve. Thanks for sharing!

I have that Ellsworth translation on the top of my want list! It has been for months and I keep waiting for my local Barnes & Noble to stock it, but it looks like it will be an order. Scott.

The smoking hot tight leather trousers Three Musketeers was an excellent lark of a penguin gift from meeeeee and you’ll be in contempt of court if you downsize it away!

I read the Ellsworth translation after having read the Pevear translation years ago. Wow Ellsworth translated the definitive edition in English!

Cover design is probably to attract a younger cohort of readers while on a retail shelf. It looks like it’s going to be a graphic novel. Getting a shopper to just pick up and handle an item is halfway to a sale. (The Three Musketeers is on my reading wish list. Interesting that DuMaurier picked up the DeWinter name and used it in “Rebecca”.)

Once this book gets beyond the King Charles story line, too many large swaths of this book is ponderous until The Man in the Iron Mask, which exciting and heart rendering.

Well naturally I disagree with using the word "ponderous" anywhere near this author!
