MATHER CAMPGROUND Experience - Juniper Loop | GRAND CANYON South Rim | 2022
Mather Campground at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is as convenient and comfortable as it gets. With plenty of wildlife, trees, views, and a full grocery store, this campground is the ultimate escape for nervous or first-time campers!
We've ventured upstate to the Grand Canyon and Mather Campground in the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park once again! This episode will show you all you need to know about what camping at Mather Campground is like.
The campground consists of 327 campsites in a number of loops located in short proximity to the shuttles, Village Market, and the Grand Canyon itself. Each includes a campfire ring/cooking grate, picnic table, parking space, and room for up to six people, three tents, and two vehicles. The maximum vehicle length is 30 ft. There are flush toilets and drinking water throughout the campground. No hookups are available, however, there is a free dump station. Most RV spaces are pull-through. Pine Loop is a tent-only area where generators are not permitted.
Mather Campground is located inside the Grand Canyon National Park and within walking distance of the Rim Trail. The terrain features plenty of shade from Ponderosa pine trees. The campground also has a shuttle stop on the Village Route (Blue) Line that can take guests to popular locations such as the Grand Canyon Visitor Center, Yavapai Lodge, and Market.
Due to the proximity of Mather Campground to the Grand Canyon Market Plaza, it is easy to purchase groceries, gifts, or any necessary camping supplies one may need for their stay.
As there are hundreds of species of wildlife living inside the Grand Canyon National Park, you most likely will have plenty of opportunities for encounters during your time at the park.

Wow, really cool. That campground is in a great spot. We were just at the Grand Canyon this week and saw a ton of elk. Way more than we've ever seen on any visit in the past.

The location of the campground is so great. Close to anything and everything you would need - Grand Canyon and elks included! 😄 Curious about the elks though. I wonder why there seems to be so many of them right now?
I'm obsessively perusing the NPS app after returning from a long trip north, and I'm listening to lots of your videos - even watching a little! : ) My ears perked up when you said "hot dogs" (I'm probably just hungry, but)I wanted to mention Love's Travel Stops. I love stopping at Love's. They have a crazy big hot dog buffet! I'm not normally a fan of the dogs, but those from Love's are just something you outta try. Happy trails.

My husband and I were at Pine Loop for four days right before you. We love Mather Campground.

So far we've stayed at this one and the Oak Loop. Both great! Mather is one of our favorites as well. 😊

We hiked to the bottom and spent 2 nights there. Hiked to a waterfall and it was pretty amazing. I can’t even imagine doing it in one day though. My feet hurts so bad by the time I got to the bottom I may have cried. 😃❤️👍 it was amazing though. This was a really interesting video.

That is awesome! Perhaps not the aching feet part but the experience. Camping at the bottom is still on the list of things we'd like to do but time isn't on our side. 🤣

Oh! Why thank you! 😄 Nothing wrong with hot dogs as they go hand in hand with camping. We're just trying to expand the menu a bit. 😅

Good to see another camping video. We are planning on taking the train into the Grand Canyon next year. I have never been. Did I spy a Nintendo Switch on your pillow 😃 If so that’s my kind of camping.

Oh the train is SUCH fun! You're going to love it. And yeah that's indeed a Nintendo Switch on the pillow. 😅 Glenn's been getting into Baldur's Gate lately. 😄

Welcome! Mathers is a great campground. A little of something for everyone! 😄
Hi Glenn . Enjoy your campground reviews. My only suggestion would be to check out the showers. The one location of pay showers are so cramped that is impossible to come out dressed and dry! Thanks, Mike

We usually try to show showers and facilities on campground episodes. Not sure why we skipped it this time. To be honest, I'm not even sure that Glenn has actually used them. 🤔 Cramped showers don't sound very fun though.
Great video! Very informative. I will be there first week of June. I have site 126 in the same Juniper loop. How is the weather in early june? Hopefully not scorching hot 😅
@CactusAtlas
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Hope it was helpful! As for weather, since it's a higher elevation it is not as scorching as temps around Phoenix, however, it can get warm. I would say highs anywhere from the mid-70s to around 90 or so. Hopefully there will be pleasant weather that week! 👍
Nice setup, that cot looks really comfy! Bring a salt lick with you and see if you can get an elk to come up to you...I double-dog dare ya! LOL

🤣 Or a large water tank with attached faucet. Don't think NPS would like it though. They elks are a really nice bonus to the campgound though. Just fascinating. 😄
it's nice thank you, would like to go see/there.
We were there last October and did Bright Angel trail 1.5 mile down and back up on your recommendation. Awesome views!

nice Coleman stove.
Haha! I just knew you were going to be cooking hot dogs. 🌭 🌭 🌭 Be careful following the elk during rut. In your area that happens around the fall equinox. The males can get really aggressive.
@CactusAtlas

I knew he would eat hot dogs too despite us talking about how nice it would be to get a steak or something from the grocery store there. BUT! Spoiler alert! There's another camping adventure scheduled for next month that does NOT feature hot dogs! 🤣 GOOD advice on the elk/rut season. Would NOT want to upset them. 😨
