I have been to the south rim 3 times. It is my favorite place I have ever been. Each time we went, we drove from Flagstaff. One time, we did stay in a lodge on the rim. That was awesome because we were able to watch the sunrise. Everyone should go to the South rim of the Grand Canyon at least once in their life!

@@violeteli31 Flagstaff is absolutely beautiful! The drive from flagstaff to the canyon rim is about an hour. Sedona is a good bit farther south than flagstaff. If you could stay at least one night in Sedona, do it. I’ve never been but it is on my list. We stayed at the Drury inn in Flagstaff the first time we went to the Grand Canyon. It was a great stay and accommodated my family of 7 in one room comfortably.

@@mariacoronado7002 yes!! I went about a week after the New year and it was beautiful! It had snowed so the canyon looked magical. The temperature were great too. I think the highs were in the low 40s. The best thing-- hardly any people! It was a great trip!
We stayed at the KOA in Williams on the 64 near the 40 freeway. Great location, small cabins affordable camp spots or rv ! Our grandkids loved it! There is also another one a little east of 64.
The train is so fun with the actors on board. They are so fun and great! Been there three and going again next month! Never enough time.

We visited the South Park about 5 years ago in Nov. and really loved it. We took the 3 night train excursion out of Willliams that included a night at their hotel there a morning train ride into the park. We were there from Noon until 3 the next afternoon when we again travelled by train back to Williams where we again spent the night. Our park entrance fee was included. we did an upgrade and stayed at the El Tavar. Our tour included a lunch a dinner at El Tavorand a bus tour along the rim. We took an extra sunset tour. It was a really great way to see th3 park. Very relaxing. Nov.was a great time to view the canyon better than the summer we were told because the shadowing gives a better 3G effect.

First visit, we stayed at El Tovar Lodge for 3 days in December (the canyon was gorgeous with snow). We flew into Phoenix, rented a car, and drove to the lodge. I'm a runner from Houston. Each morning around 7am, I ran the fire roads around El Tovar for an hour. It was so quiet early morning in the snow you could hear a pin drop and beautiful, deer were everywhere. Being from Texas, running at 7000 foot elevation was a little harder but an amazing experience. Wore long tights, light jacket, gloves, cap. Definitely need a water bottle for any outdoor activity in any month because of low humidity. For me, December was so beautiful with snow in the canyon and so quiet and meditative. El Tovar is right on the rim with an outdoor sitting area overlook. We took the shuttle to many nearby lookout points on the south rim. El Tovar is an ideal place to spend a few days and December was fabulous. Our second trip was to the North Rim, driving once more from Phoenix in a car rental, this time in September. The drive was beautiful, long and zero traffic. We stayed at Kaibab Lodge, 5 miles outside the North Rim entrance to GC, for a week. It was cool weather and a little higher altitude than the South Rim (almost 9000 feet). I'd love to go back when it snows and go cross country skiing, just outside Kaibab Lodge. The food was great - we ate at the Kaibab Lodge restaurant for every meal. All waking hours were outdoors. We entered GC North Rim entrance each morning bringing our own food, and enjoyed the beautiful lookouts and the lush forest bathing. We hiked into Coconino National Forest and it was gorgeous. We also took a helicopter ride over the canyon that was wonderful. We then visited Sedona for 3 days. The running was amazing in Sedona in September and crowds were low. Those red rocks are beautiful and everywhere. GC is the most inspiring location. I feel so small when I see the view from the rim into the canyon at sunrise or sunset. Even at Coconino, we hiked to an overlook and although it wasn't the canyon, it was silent and peaceful in a way you can't find other places. When I ran up a mountain in Sedona each day, I was awestruck. Each place I've been to in Arizona was an incredible inspiration for my soul. I recommend running or hiking or driving in AZ to everyone. I'm not a fan of crowds and especially love the peace and quiet and solitude of GC or any place especially early in the day. The night sky is incredible...you can't get a dark night sky just anywhere. Stargazing is beyond fantastic!

Great help, thanks! ❤ First view of the Canyon was breathtaking, literally! Took your advice to stay 2 nights and SO HAPPY we did. 🎉 One thing I was not expecting was how bad the quality of the highways are in Arizona. Driving from Las Vegas was pothole city. Also, food in Tusayan is a struggle unless you like fast food and eat at 5pm. We arrived at 8pm and ended up eating from the gas station - McDonalds drive thru was the only thing open and had 30 cars in the lineup - and all the hotel restaurants require reservations (for deep fried everything or steak). If you eat healthy, be prepared to get creative and pay through your teeth!

If you are talking about Mather Campground, there is a nice biking path between the two so I would say yes : )
Plot twist: They are the investors that got the train running again. The dedication is unparalleled with these 2.
West Rim was worth the money!
You do not need to shuttle to Horseshoe bend. Parking is 10$ and about 3/4 mile walk to the overlook. There IS however a tour of Secret Canyon and Horseshoe Bend where the tour will bypass that 3/4 mile walk but be warned that tour is a 200$ tour but avoids the crowd at Horseshoe Bend Overlook.

Hi thank you for posting this video, it has has been so helpful for planning my trip!! I am flying from NY to Tuscan Arizona, renting a car and taking a road trip through Arizona to Salt Lake City Utah. (Flying home from Utah)The plan is to stop at all 8 National Parks between the two states and including a stop in Sedona (for maybe a day/ night). I’m creating an itinerary and I’m hoping you have advice in regards to which Rim may be best from where I’m coming from and then going to. I’m traveling with an 8 year old so As much as I’d like to see everything and really take it in, we are more focused on getting to a visit center for my little one to earn his junior ranger badge. Going for a small/easy hike, snapping some great pix and getting back onto the road. As for the drive going towards the Grand Canyon we are driving from Sedona (red rock area ish I’m still researching where to go and stay) then going to the Grand Canyon then to Zion to Bryce and the last three of those “mighty 5”. Which do you think is closer/ “easier to get to/ more on the route?” South rim or North? Thanks!

Mather Point is a great location at the South Rim. Read our article 16 AWESOME things to do at the Grand Canyon: wereintherockies.com/15-awesome-things-to-do-at-the-grand-canyon/ or this one for ideas on the North Rim: wereintherockies.com/grand-canyons-peaceful-north-rim-everything-you-need-to-know-before-you-go/
Thank you for such a helpful video! I'm visiting the grand canyon next week :) I want to catch a sunset while there, but I'm staying in flagstaff. Do you think it is safe to drive from GC to flagstaff after dark? Thank you!

Have fun! I am sure the drive is safe, just be on the lookout for wildlife crossing the road.

@@WereintheRockies thank you so much for responding! I will keep that in mind ☺️
Having to be able to go for a whole day and 1 toddler and an infant. Which rims are “easiest” for them (well one will be carried of course) but what would you guys suggest. We have never been there. What times are best? I’ll check out the website 😀

Traveling with little ones is challenging. We always suggest keeping expectations low. The Southrim has lots of paved walk ways along the rim that would be stroller accessible. A toddler may enjoy the Trail of Time along the South Rim as well. There are rock displays they can touch.
Just got to my answer in the video 😀
