Maternity Leave Debt - Til Debt Do Us Part - Making Dough
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Despite going through a consumer proposal in the past, Jodi and Adrien didn’t change their ways and overspending got them into trouble for a second time around. Given that Jodi was on a reduced maternity leave income and both of them were struggling to make minimum payments, this family was on the brink of disaster. Gail forces them to pay back the dough they’ve already spent and teaches them that budgeting is as easy as baking... a loaf of bread. -

Gail has saved generations of the families she helped plus all the people who watched and are watching and will watch.
I remember this couple- I really loved their attitude. The Food Bank exercise really made it hit home. It was a reality check. I hope they made it
My husband and I were lucky. We are both naturally "thrifty" Lol. I retired at 53. I treated saving money like a game. It was fun to me. Any whisper now of hard times ( like covid era grocery/gas prices ) we go back to our depression times habits. We are not from those times but our parents and grandparents talked about those days so much I guess it put the fear into us to save up!
They were a great couple. I thought their house was cozy too. I’m glad these shows are available!
I think the real lesson learned here is to be content with what you already have.
Please bring back this show, absolutely love Gail.🍁🇨🇦

My favorite couple. They woke up at the food bank! I think they paid off their debt. Love their attitude and cute house too.
I sure could have used Gail back in my 20's motivating me to earn more, spend less, save more and plan, plan, plan.
Don't know why i'm crying! Stupid debt show lol. Love it!

They need to teach money management in EVERY high school….in the early 60s when I was in school we learned how to write a check and balance a checkbook…. I opened up a savings account the minute I got an after school job…..I know most people don’t use checks anymore but still seeing your money go up and down is still a good lesson……
Does anyone ever wonder how on earth some people even NEED Gail to tell them such obvious things?

Seems like there's an all-around problem with gratification, so stick with the plan and loose the extra weight also. Soda and takeout are expensive and unhealthy. Shopping can be switched for taking walks or going to a museum.
They really got it by the end. Well done.
Great episode! I watched most of these back in the day it’s always a fun rewatch years later to reinforce why I need to budget.

Constant propaganda and brainwashing in the last fifty years or so. It's easy. Too many people are impressionable. Look at all the ads and laughing and smiling mixed with the credit card. Government and corporations are not your friends. You have to deal with them but buyer beware.

At least a mother gets some money for maternity leave in Canada. Doesn't happen in the U.S. unless you have an amazing job or boss. Many moms are back to work right away. Tiny baby, no sleep, back to work.

Me, too. Just a landline with internet. Don't get cell service at my house so need a landline. Use my cell to get on the internet. I felt stupid paying for cell service when no internet at my house. If I go somewhere and I HAVE to make a call (only happened once), I ask someone if I can use their phone. Only needed to once and she said sure.
One obvious thing that could've been pointed out - although too late when baby is 1 month old - is that breastfeeding is free and formula is ridiculously expensive!
@lorettacarroll6015
Жыл бұрын
Not every mom can breastfeed. So sometimes formula is necessary. My sister tried to breastfeed but there was a problem and her babies were starving. The doctor said they were not getting nutrients from breast milk and were basically starving to death. She was living at home so we knew she was really trying. My sister knew how and she was producing milk. It just wasn't good enough. So they had to have formula.

Honestly if you cant handle yourself with a credit card, get rid of them and live off what money you have. Thats what i do and im not in debt.

So... they basically had no discipline whatsoever, and didn't understand how to prioritize properly wants verses needs.🤦🏽♀️ I really hope they took what they learned from the show and made it a lifestyle.
They wouldn't be 700k in debt because they would never have access to that much credit. I know Gail does it for shock value, but it is not reality.

Budgeting is not rocket science. This program is about accountability
Budgeting isn't rocket science. It's a simple matter of subtracting bills/debt from income, what's left over you pay for food. Anything left gets split between saving and the rest is free to spend. Obviously the parents haven't missed a meal smh $1500 a month on average in just food !
