Wow, the amount of detail you go into is amazing Brad. Thanks for all the in-depth reviews and improvement research/hacks you have done on the Matebook X Pro. Impressive work. I like the screen and aspect ratio of it too, my favourite part really, and its compact form factor/design. I’m surprised that Huawei has not just used all your findings to improve it every year, to squeeze out all potential it has. Sad that the reality is the reverse. Hopefully they will come out with something new eventually that addresses all the issues, maybe even do a Pro with a new Ryzen CPU, but I am not holding my breath.

Well done review. It’s the exact type of format and thoroughness I like. Too bad these types of reviews don’t garner the same attention and follows as other tech reviewers. At least you earn my sub. Keep up the great work.

I was determined to buy this Huawei but now I have changed my mind with your good review... Can you recommend me one new slim laptop for watching movies or the internet...and to be ultraportable? No need for games because I already have Lenovo gaming series Y50-70 from 2016 but still does his job and very well... PS - I don't need a very expensive one...as cheap as possible but to have a good /slicky look (I don't care about the brand name... ;-) ) Thank you, Brad!

Really glad I saw this I almost purchased one earlier after looking for ages to try and find a vid of an Mxp running cad or solid works etc. I do have huawei phone so the huawei share is a handy tool. But if I can't render on cad it would be useless. Considering the price tag different between the Mxp and macbook pro, could I simply hook up an eGpu and use that to render models? If that's the case I could even go for the Mxp 2019. Great review btw, by far the most comprehensive. Tia

Wow you are great. I mean i have seen so many tech review videos but the amount of details you put in there is just amazing. I was quite shocked to see the number of your followers i was expecting at least 100k. I just brought this laptop well i bought the hp elitebook G7 then re-exchanged it by this one bcz it didnt have a graphic card for basic usage but the heat coming from this matebook pro is too much and im afraid it wont last long but i really love the screen and the premium like feeling especially the screen. Any idea how to fix the heating without opening it ? Or should i just get another one again..

Without doing physical modifications, you can only adjust the balance between hot and slow. Turn down the performance to make the laptop cooler. Btw glad you liked my video.

Hey, man) Im waiting for your review on Mate Book X Pro 2021. Is there some chance to see that review by the end of 2021? Btw. As I understand, Huawei tried to improve the cooling system so I have big hopes for this generation.

Hi. Brad. It seems to be intuitive to just wiggle the SSD out without removing the heat sink. Have you tried it before? Will it work? I just want to avoid the trouble of removing the whole of the heat sink

I haven't seen a laptop break itself because of too high temperatures (as long as it's not over 100°C). Alienwares and Intel Macs are allowed to run at 100°C whenever they want. So unless there is evidence otherwise, I'm fairly confident that even with power limits removed, the chip/solder joints/VRM would outlast the computer's usefulness.

sorry, did not know where to ask for some help. On my 2018 matebook x pro I replaced the whole keyboard front panel along with the fingerprint sensor. the problem is that the keyboard replacement i received is from a 2020 model and now I cant get the fingerprint sensor to work. I have always had problems getting the sensor to work but usually following your install tutorial would get it to work. hope you see this and can help me somehow. thank you

amazing review man! i found this exact model for 1100$ and bought it, cuz on paper specs and design wise it looked like an amazing deal. However, I watched your review while waiting for it to be delivered and now im really worried. i do some 4k video editing and light gamin like LOL. Do you think i should try to tinker with upgrades(never tried that before) or is there a better laptop for the price of 1100?

My matebook x pro screen light is not working properly it's looks like it on night mode, but I can't turn it on back on high this happened recently when I tried to downloaded window 11. I need help to fix it

I've never used MateBook 14 but it's faster than MXP. I'm currently editing my videos on Spectre X360 14, which I'm reviewing right now. It's pretty good once you disable DPTF. Also, M1 MacBooks beat all of those easily.

Why is the hello finger print reader not recognizing my finger print when trying to set up on my X Pro?. Is there something I can do to fix this?

I have a Huawei matebook pro X, had a slight jar- dropping maybe a foot from bed to thick carpet, wouldn't think it would've done much damage but it's now completely "dead". I only get a single flash of the power light when I hit the hard power on... No screen, options etc. I've found little to no information about how/where to go about repairing.. Any suggestions? Hi. I'm thinking about returning my 2019 model because a speaker has blown, and "upgrading" to the 2020 model. What is the downgrade from going from the 2019 to 2020 model?

Hey Brad, would the 2018 be okay compared to the 2019 model or is it still better to get the latter, or even the matebook 13 2020 model? I was looking to get a Lenovo Thinkpad 14s but the Matebooks are on special and are about $400-$500 cheaper with better screens.

How did they do with 2021/2022 cooling solution? Hope Huawei took up some of your recommendations!

Since 2021, they added a second fan. This was possible because they removed the dGPU and freed up a lot of internal space. I like this decision because the Nvidia MX series is not faster enough than Intel Xe graphics to be worth the tradeoffs. I haven't bought any newer MateBook because I need more RAM than they offer.

What could be done about the overheating and the laptop slowing down if I have no clue when it comes to laptops? I would just risk destroying my laptop if I tried opening it up and modify it. But right now it's struggling to make me edit videos on CapCut with nothing else open and it gets boiling hot. I am buying a cooling pad but I don't know how much that'll do, it feels more like a band aid than an actual solution.

Hello Brad, great video! Glad I didn't go for the 2020! Maybe you can help me. I just picked up a 2018 and it's all good except one small issue. Closing the lid or pressing the power to sleep doesn't work. Not sure if it's a Windows issue. I tried all the power settings I could find. Any ideas? Thanks

This is the best laptop review I've watched not just for this laptop but on youtube ever. Can you recommend another 3:2 screened laptop other than those from Huawei? (and no Macbooks please!).

I have not owned a MateBook for that long so I can't be sure. Generally, if you want to be financially efficient, buy the previous year's model used. Use it for a few years then buy another 1-year-old one. That way you can spend less money without having to stick with the same computer for 5 years.

Great Video! Have you used Linux on it? I love ZorinOS on my MXP, but the speaker quality suffers a lot.

I don't use Linux on it, but I remember seeing a speaker tweak for Linux. I think the problem was by default Linux is not using the tweeters.

Hi Great video. Did some of the simplier adjustments you recomended. Thanks! When I watch Netflix i get a stutter/lag for half a sec every 5 minute or so. It is not hot. Do you know what this could be? It is not the internett speed im quite sure. Sincerely casper

@@BradsHacks i can try to check the CPU as it happens. Can it be tenperature related? I saw a guy in reddit with something that sounds like a related problem. He wrote every lag around every 15th sec though. But for me it not so often. I noticed it was quite warm on the backside. But had it on my table when it happend last time...its probably around 2-4 times pr hour. Just a short 0.5 sec lag. Not a big problem, but not so cool on a new laptop...

i was planning to buy this laptop because i thought it would belike a macbook just a bit cheaper. Good thing i saw this video first so i guess im better with a macbook.

Hello Brad, as I am a Linux Mint user I must ask you if al of this problems is a Windows problem or will I also get those in Linux. I do not play any games, I only use it with GIMP, Darktable, Lightworks, OBS Studio and Messenger for video chat.

Those hardware problems (bad cooling, slow charging, noisy headphone jack etc) are present regardless of what OS the laptop is running.

Can you watch 8k videos on youtube without stuttering ?

Do you recommend 0.3mm gpu shim on this one?

Did anyone try speed transfer with usb 3.0 external hard disk? i just bought x pro 2020 , test 4 different external hardisk seagate usb 3 they go half speed: 50\70 mbps, if i connect them on my old mac book pro late2013 they still work 120\150 mbps , so whats the problem? windows or Huawei? (Brad conplimenti!, thisis the best review i have seen)

I haven't had this problem. I get full 300MB/s transfer speed when plugging my NVMe USB SSD to the USB-A port, and up to 900MB/s when plugging it into the Thunderbolt port (which makes the connection USB3.1).

Does it boot with battery unplugged and charger connected? It should. If it doesn't, then something else is wrong.

I use it with an RTX2080Ti. The MXP bottlenecks it severely. But it works well.

So i have implemented all the setting in your Speed/Efficiency Tweaks blog and since then i am experiencing some screen glitching here and there :S I have also undervolted the system including the internal intel and nvidia chip. Do you maybe have a clue why this happens ?

What does the glitching look like? Does it happen in games or in other apps? Sounds like you undervolted your GPU too much.

@@BradsHacks It actually happened while looking at a pdf document in the chrome browser. It happens really fast and disappears in less than a second. I undervolted the GPU to -50. Did a Cinebench 20 run since i had to test earlier CPU Undervolts and nothing so far in regards of glitching. Thanks for your reply dude. appreciate it !

@@BradsHacks OK figured out what i was doing wrong :) When i add the MXP.txt youtube stops giving out sound and a error message pops up where the video is playing saying 'audio renderer error'". Can you advise please ?

sounds like a voltage difference between earth and neutral. i have this on a dell too. i solved it by using a non earthed charger.

Can i disable Huawei PC manager and use window’s version instead?

You mean for the copied texts? Yes sure. You don't have to use the PC Manager from Huawei

Don't you find the BSOD problem 😁..i hope if you ever find that and explan the fix...(mostly SSD replacement)... I really love this laptop..BTW

I never got a Lite-On SSD in any of my MateBooks (Toshiba and WD instead), so I never saw that issue.

@@samanthajennings1878 had it for 2 days, loved screen, touchpad and keyboard. Speakers were fine. Downsides is the batterylife 2 hours on a Microsoft teams call on lowest brightness on the lowest made the battery drop from 100% to under 50%. I got 4-5 maybe 6 hours just browsing the web, watching KZread und listening to music via Bluetooth headphones. Passiv cooling was fine, sometimes to warm on the lap without clothes but running a PCmark 10 Work benchmark it never went above 65%

Returned it because of the mediocre performance and IMO horrible batterylife, went for the MacBook Air instead (I have an iPhone and AirPods since half a year and was a windows User for my entire life)now I’ll await the arrival

This is with no doubt the best review I have ever witnessed in my whole life! I actually just bought it and planning to return it as soon as it arrives. The cooling system is juste WTF ..... This laptop without modding will be dead in 3 years max. Ima gonna go for the new 2020 Dell X3, totally better than this one, specially when it comes to cooling

Wow! When I bought my MXP and compared it to my friends Macbook I realized the lagging but I tought that that was just a windows thing and Macbooks are just smoother in general. What a shame HUAWEI! For a 1800€ Laptop this is offending. I really dont understand how the engineers at a billion dollar company loose to a internet kid's mods. (no offense 😁)

Still sitting with my 2018 model, the weakest one (8gb ram + i5) with thermal pipes, copper fan casing, and a bunch of thermal pads all over (like in your mod guide) It is pretty beat up by now, with a couple of dents and glue marks on the keyboard (thank to checking measurements in Solidworks while gluing stuff in the lab), but it still runs pleasantly. Thank you for your guides, super cool stuff :)

You should consider matebook 14 because of aspect ratio with better performance on amd cpus.
