MATCHBOX Restoration Y12 1899 London Horse Drawn Bus 1956
This bus is one of the first edition Yesteryear models. It is a beautiful toy that is now highly collectible.
This model has a lot going for it. It represents a horse drawn bus from the 1800's. It is covered in vintage advertising signs of the time and with the addition of two horses and a driver, it is in my opinion, one of the most charming and desirable early Matchbox/Lesney diecast vehicles.

For those coming here concerned about Marty and Co's health/absence during the current crisis: He replied to comments from a few days ago saying all ok, just dealing with real world stuff/normal sized cars. Posting this here as a top level comment in the hope it saves some other people concern/worry/need to search.
Nothing like sitting down to breakfast and watching Marty's Matchbox Makeovers
What a lovely little model ! Didn't realise Matchbox did a vintage Horse-drawn bus ! Obviously 1956 was before my time, but must have been discontinued, before I became a child.
I have to agree with everybody else it is one really cool unique piece, and you gave it one hell of a cool restoration.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 thanks for sharing it with us .

The London Horse Drawn Bus looks good and it's a good thing you & Kevin had fun in London taking some pictures.
I always love reading the newspaper in the paint booth
Beaned by a green screen.........how many of us can say that? What we can say is, "Brilliant restoration Marty! A joy to watch, fiddly bits and all." Thanks, Mate.
You are such a BIG kid. Laughing is the secret to a long life! Great resto.
Happy to see Kevin behaving himself ☺️

I’ve collected vintage toys for quite sometime now but never got into hot wheels or matchbox die cast cars. I recently came across your channel (and others similar to yours), after binge watching for about a week I am completely fascinated by these little amazing cars and what you and others do with them. I can’t stop watching and recently picked picked up few cars to restore myself. Thanks for sharing!
One of the neatest things about these vids is seeing how the toys were put together, originally.
My father was a house painter (when it was an art form), and when would mix a color, he would dap a drop of paint,on a piece of white tile, would "skin it" with a hair dryer to see what the color looked like dry. Amazed me what dyes he knew to use to shift the color & there were not any home stores to go to to mix paint or any 5 gal. paint cans. He had to mix 1 gallon at a time.
Fantastic job repairing the broken drawbar. Great restoration and I've very much enjoyed your London sightseeing with Kevin!
Not going to lie, watching the horse melt was eery.
Step 1 click / thumbsup Step 2 push play. Step 3 sit back and enjoy 😉
Excellent restoration. You certainly do great work. It was nice to see Kevin make an appearance. At least he behaved himself this time!.
Nice to see Kevin minding his Ps and Qs too. 😆!!
Marty, we know all those little, fiddly extra bits are a pain, but remember this: we are enjoying YOUR journey to restoring these beautiful little toys. And even though attending to details like you have at 18:20, we are thoroughly enjoying watching you turn rough die-cast toys into things of beauty that are a joy and delight to behold

I am sitting in the sun, watching this video... it is so relaxing to see your work evolving in this fantastic restauration. THANKS!
Another fine restoration, Marty. May have taken longer than planned, but there's a saying I tend to say a lot in my hobby which is, "Difficult things take a long time, impossible things take a little longer."
That was a complex toy. And man did it turn out awesome!
What a particularly cheerful video today 😊 Thanks Marty!!!
What a wonderful and completely unique restoration, and on a Friday night to boot! You never cease to entertain Marty. Thanks once again.
Seeing you and Kevin having a good interaction was nice for a change.
Very old yet a beautiful design
INCREDIBLY FABULOUS restoration!!.. Probably one of the most challenging restorations you have done and it looks BETTER than brand new!!
Two Thumbs Up Marty! What a wonderful restoration. Glad to see you and Kevin enjoyed the ride!
Lots of care and attention went into this one Marty, very pleased you spend so much time on these older models.
Hope all is well with you and your family miss your awesome videos this pandemic is scary

Beautiful restoration.
Don't think I'd ever seen one at all - but all that hard work paid off, silk purse from a sow's ear as it were. Thanks Marty!
Had to immediately think of 'A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse'. A pleasant tour with the restored horse tram.

A simple thing, yes, but also one of tremendous charm, and great beauty. One of your very best, Marty - thanks for sharing!
This turned out great Marty. It was a struggle, but well worth it in the end product. Loved the Kevin trip at the end.
I have a full sized 1898 horse drawn bus. It's a restoration project a bit like yours Marty 😆. As a result I'm a fan of any horse drawn bus regardless of size. Great video Marty, thanks.
Marty, I know this model took twice as long, but your efforts really paid off. You seemed to get everything done, “without a hitch” and it came out great!
Brilliant job sir. The Lipton Tea advert reminded me of a funny story . As a teenager in the 1970's I worked as a launch Captain at a local Yacht Club located on an island in the harbor. We young men also took care of the mens restrooms when we were not piloting the boats full of Club members to and from the Island. The club had hired a seasoned woman to keep the Ladies rooms in ship shape and to keep the Solarium well dusted as well. Her name was Margaret and she and her family had come to America after WW II. She was a young girl in London during the Blitz. She said they had many shortages and even with ration cards some items they just could not get. Fortunately they had a relative living in the US who would send them CARE packages. They were loaded up with tins of ham, cans of condensed milk, soap and one of their favorites, SPAM. They also truly appreciated the Tea their Yank relative sent them. They were so appreciative the young girl, Margaret, sent them a letter saying how much they appreciated all the food and especially the Lipton Tea. But she added they had a devil of a time getting the Tea out of those tiny little bags. Haha...they had never seen individual Tea Bags before.
Great job!!! I'm happy cause Kevin is fine!!!
Hello marty another great restoration its like new [ better than new ]
Thank you for this Marty. I’m really enjoying these pieces on the Matchbox models. They were very much part of my childhood; I think I had most of them. And yes, my grandfather used to tell me what it was like riding on the horse ‘buses in London. Keep safe!
Wonderful job. Wife says you need a manicure. Always enjoy The Sun cover page.
Marty I did the same thing. Just restored a vintage RoadMaster tricycle for my Granddaughter. Went online to look at the way it was painted. Love your videos great job!!!
While I restore Tonka Trucks you demonstrate many technicals that carry over to my hobby. Great makeover!
'Meticulous' is the only word that describes your work. The London Bus is a MoY that I have had since childhood...my example is still in pretty good shape. Great fun to see how it is put together. You did a lovely job on yours, and I am sure it will look great on your shelf, along with your other restored Matchbox cars!
A beautiful restoration, ex works. 🇬🇧
Fun old toys. You make them beauties again! Thanks so much Marty 😃
You are the best Marty and even though the extra work is time consuming I think it is a joy to watch. Well done on a gorgeous piece of art.
I was surprised there wasn't an outtake with Marty saying: "That's it, no more Matchbox models with animals! They are a pain from beginning to end!" That said, tough job, excellent result!!
Nice to see Kevin so well behaved. I’d watch my back if I were you, he’s probably plotting something! Great job on the carriage! Would have to say “I am happy with that”.
Nice job on a small, but very complex model. You nailed it again.
Very nice restoration, the horse drawn bus looks beautiful. And the busride is awesome.
Nice recovery of a detailed little model. thanks for sharing
They did a horse drawn fire tender in this series. We have one, horses and all, with the brass water tank still on the back. That tool is like an old brass button polishing shield. I had one for my dress uniform. Marty, don't touch the piece whilst you paint it. The greases from your hand will spoil the finish. I know from painting thousands of miniature cavalry figures. Beautiful job mate, beautiful.
Nicely done, sir. Horses look great
wow an excellent restoration for how small and fiddly that was 😎👍
You also had to use several different colors on this one.. A challenging restoration.. But you're one of the best at restoring models like these...
Good morning from the UK. Kings Cross (as it is known) was formerly known as 'Battle Bridge', until the mid 1880's. These days, the Gothic splendour of St. Pancras station is a 'must see' if you ever find yourself in the area.....

Well said Bib. St Pancras is like a cathedral. I frequently visit and stand in awe at its magnificence.....
This is just outstanding work Marty! Even as a kid I was always impressed with the level of detail of Matchbox models and this one was no different. Thanks for sharing this as it was truly inspiring to see and bit of toy history restored.
Jack O'Dell was a genius, designed all those excellent details.
What a beautifull model and a great restauration again, thanks for sharing Marty. 👍👌
Glad to see you and Julie are doing fine, Marty. I think that when you come back this calls for an "Ambulance and Medical Vehicle" special edition!
I have had success spray painting decal paper the colour I want, let it dry then print your decal, and treat as normal, it's worth experimenting with.
@K1W1fly

its not the background colour thats the problem - its the text colour. You cant do white text without an APLS printer
@The1queencollector
4 жыл бұрын
If you select the colour button of white on the fonts and print on a coloured background it will just leave the font without colour being printed at all therefore leaving the background colour showing? so print a red square with a white font chosen, if you get my drift? you can buy white backed decal paper so the same process is used for that. you don't actually have to print in white
Lovely video. I own this piece. It was bought new around 1950. Not sure where it is in the basement but I'm going to go looking. I have several of these MatchBox toys. You did an amazing job restoring it. I
green screen bits are the best part of this channel
Great way to begin my Saturday morning. Thank you Marty.
Absolutely fabulous job Marty! I am sure it was extra work as mentioned but rest assured that the watch for your 1000s of viewers was so worth it! Congrats!
What a great video! That draw bar looked particularly fiddly. Came out beautifully in the end. You can really see the difference in the detail of the original horse and the modern reproduction. Looks like you and Kevin had a great time sight-seeing in it. Overall, a terrific restoration. Keep up the good work. I love these restorations!!

Marty you did an excellent job on that little coach wagon 👍😁 way2goit was beautiful and nice to see an old fashioned matchbox come backPlus at the end of your video you did a nice job on your animation video
What an excellent and surprisingly complex project. Really nice. Thanks for this.
You should see about doing a tour of a manufacturer of these cars if you are ever close to one. It would be a great episode. Thanks from Florida.
Marty you've excelled yourself with this one! I think you must be due some kind of award for Services to Saving Models.
very nice. I like to watch you work on the more difficult pieces. Being the master, an ordinary piece just won't do.
Marty, your channel relaxes me after a hard day at work. thank you for being you.
Awesome!
The bumps on the horse could be for indexing the tow bar to the horses during assembly. Thanks for the great video.
Lovely job Marty. Love the subject matter.
A cracking restoration Marty, one of your best. All the fiddly bits took a lot of effort but the result speaks for itself. These earliest Lesneys were real masterpieces, especially when you think these were created in the *1950s* If it hadn't been for HotWheels, who knows how many more excellent Matchboxes would have been produced, instead of the Superfast junk which replaced the "proper" models. Great job.👍👌 Cheers for now, Dougie.
Morning, Mr Marty! Thank you for the video and the laughs from the Blooper Reel as well! A good laugh never fails to set ones feet on the right path for the day. ;o) The carriage and team is a real Keeper! regards, The Wolves from Colorado
Terrific! Although I do nothing like this myself, watching your videos is very relaxing. The extra work you put in on this model is well worthwhile. I loved the closing video with Kevin - the music went so well. I think I might have had this model as a child.
Thank you, Marty! You make me happy...
I've got to say, amazing job once again. You're truly an inspiration, I'm going to start restorations myself when I get the opportunity for purchasing the essentials. Just wanted you to know how much your fans appreciate the work you put into the videos.
Thanks Marty for a very nice video. Greetings from The Netherlands.
This has to be one of the coolest die cast vehicles I've ever seen! I think it looked great unrestored, but I also appreciate the return to it's original state.
Looks Great. It good to see you and Kevin enjoying some quality down time together.
That turned out beautifully!
I love the outtakes. Thank you for including them!
Hope you're okay missing your model makeovers hope you're back soon

Marty, that was really SUPER! I think this was one of your very best efforts. Noticed that Kevin was well behaved on your little jaunt at the end ... Maybe he is good with "horse-n' around" as long as your along showing him the ropes ... Great out takes as always !! Thanks !!
Superb restoration! ... and what a nice ride to take too👍😊
Great work on the draw bar Marty 👍🏻🇬🇧🇦🇺
