I have been learning finnish from Duolingo , on a 29 day streak now , but Duolingo doesn’t really give you too much info about concepts and stuff, it’s mostly based on examples , but you have given a nice theory background behind the logic and it’s really helpful ! Loved it and definitely going to come to your videos often now !

Me too on Duolingo. Its good for HEARING and learning new words and phrases, but these kind of videos are definitely needed too🙂🙂

I appreciate that your eyebrows are the same color as your hair. You especially see dyed blonde hair with whatever natural hair color on the person, exampled via the eyebrows Bravo!!!! I enjoy listening to you teach. I would consider living in Finland if I was half my age. One other question I have is how do you stay up with your Finnish? Do you live there, which seems like the final necessary way to take your Finnish to the "finish line" Chow!!

And! As I see from your examples in the description box, 3rd singular (hän) doesn't have any personal ending, like: katsoa -> (Pres) hän katsoo -> (Past) hän katsoi I just add -i according to the rule, and don't add anything else, right?

Well the consonant gradation can be tricky for some, I didn't use those as examples. And yes I'm 100% sure there are more exceptions xD But it's good that it seems simple at least! hahah

Maksaa=to pay. Now genetiivi n for I. You get maksan. Cos it's two vowel present, you add Io and it gives maksoin=I paid

Could you explain something to me? You said 'herätä' turns into 'minä heräsin'. I've read the book of Job in Finnish and in one place it says this.... 'Epätoivoon vaipuneet siunasivat minua, lesken sydämessä minä *herätin* ilon.' (29:13) What's the answer?

Oh that is if you wake someone else up. Not you waking up yourself. So you woke up joy. ”Minä herätin sinut” = I woke you up

That is because it is two different verbs. The one Katya mention is herätä, which is to wake up (intrasitive) and the one you mention is herättää, which is to wake up something or someone (transitive). The latter one requires an object in this case the widows heart and what was awaken was joy. So in past tense herätä becomes heräsin - I woke up and herättää becomes herätin - I woke up something or someone. Hope it helps :)

It would be "minä kannoin" because of consonant gradation :)

She explained to take away the first vowel y. Eg syödä=to eat. Syön=I eat. Then take away y, and add in= you get söin=I ate
