Making PLURAL Words in Finnish? | Finnish Cases #2: Nominatiivi PLURAL (& explaining KPT rules)
Continuing my Finnish cases series, in this video lesson I will go over ways to make the nominatiivi PLURAL form. Of course it wouldn't be Finnish if there weren't any exception so I also go over 5 exceptions to the rules. (One of the exceptions contains the KPT rule, so you'll get a brief taster/summary of that as well).
x The website I mentioned with all the exceptions and more examples: uusikielemme.fi/finnish-gramm...
x More about "New" vs "Old" Finnish words: uusikielemme.fi/finnish-vocab...
Please give this video a like as I put in SO much effort making this. Hope it's helpful ^-^

I love how you pronounce the Finnish words very slowly. It helps a lot to figure out the correct pronunciation and spelling of the word even if I am not looking at the video. Your videos are really appreciated

She has an extremely clear diction in both English and Finnish. I am listening to her at 1.5 speed and I can get all she says, both in English and Finnish.
I really hope there's no mistakes in this, I spent all day editing this so my brain got a little woozy towards the end xD I've never asked this before, but if you could spare a thumbs up for this video it would be really nice since I don't think I've ever spent this much time researching + filming + editing for a video on this channel before ^-^ EDIT: Ok watching this back I noticed a few typos, but nothing major that takes away from the content. Just a few silly mistakes SORRY

A phenomenal job you've done! I was formerly a Spanish teacher with a little bit of French as well, and in graduate school I took both courses in the history of the Spanish/French language. The two languages of course descended from the Latin or "Vulgar" Latin, and I can remember the "k,p,t ...(?)" phenomenon. Finnish belongs to the Uralic language or Finno-Ugric which is a far cry from the Indo-european languages which also includes (Vulgar) Latin > Spanish, French, etc. Last year was my first experience in Suomi and I got interested in the Finnish language. As soon as the COVID virus is contained, hopefully I'll make another trip in the near future...we'll see! But in the meantime, keep up the awesome job in your videos "Katchat" 😀

Awww thank you so much, I'm honestly so happy to hear that. Kiitos paljon seriously!!
I got more Finnish grammar explanation from this video than my entire year or more, give or take, of Finnish self study lol. Thank you!!
It is so helpful to watch the difference in how you shape the sounds in English and in Finnish, your enunciation in both languages is very clear and quite distinct. For example, when you place a Finnish word in the middle of a sentence in English, you automatically change the way your mouth produces the sounds and it naturally switches back and forth as you move from one language to the other. It really helps those of us new to Finnish hear the difference in how the “same” sound is still pronounced differently in these two languages. Like “hey” vs “hei”. They seem mostly the same but the tones and emphasis make them sound different. I would love to see a discussion about the difference in where you feel like your voice “comes from” in Finnish vs English since you have such natural tones in both. Kiitos paljon!
I am learning finnish for just more than 2 weeks, yet I am achieving good progress by watching your videos, Kat. Kiitos palijon.

Hi Kat! I recently started taking up Finnish (mainly because my fascination with Uralic languages came out of nowhere; it just said 'hey, here I am,' a band I'm getting into as an up and coming musician is from Finland, and I heard Tolkien was influenced by Finnish)! From the very little I already understand from another KZreadr's video, Finnish is actually a genius language (in my opinion). This helps tremendously though because you dive deep into the workings of the language, whereas the other person had a basic introductory video! These lessons will be kept in mind so that when I'm confident enough to begin reading Finnish text (albeit with a dictionary in hand lol), I can identify and understand the changes more easily. On top of all this, from the little Finnish I've read and heard, it's incredibly beautiful to read and listen to! Kiitos x1000!! 🇫🇮🤍🇨🇦

I became fascinated with Finnish too! After watching Deadwind on Netflix I found that I loved listening to the language so much so that I did a deep dive into the language and the country. I absolutely love the culture of Finland and I feel more motivated to learn a new language more than ever. I can totally relate to this newfound interest lol
For sure, Kat, all your work on this complex part of the language has enabled me to get a handle on making plural forms. Good example words, step-by-step instructions. A la Kat!
