Having A Full Finnish Conversation After Only ONE WEEK! (Featuring linguaEpassione)

You can see me learning Finnish over the course of one week here: • How Much Finnish Can I...
Check out all the resources I used to learn Finnish in a week: wp.me/p8Blud-eB
** Check out Stefano's KZread channel, linguaEpassione here: / @linguaepassione **
From March 27 to March 29, 2020, I participated in Language Jam! But it wasn't just any Language Jam: it was my first full Language Jam that I could commit a full weekend to, and I got to study Finnish.
I have always been interested in learning Finnish (thank you, Nightwish!), so much so that after three days of studying Finnish, I decided I hadn't had enough. I extended my 3-day Finnish dabble into a week-long challenge. And to top it all off, I had a conversation with Stefano from linguaEpassione to test my new Finnish skills. It wasn't always easy, but I am proud of how much I was able to understand and communicate in Finnish after one week!

Wow as a Finn it was trippy to see a Canadian and an Italian speaking Finnish! And Stefano's smile is contagious. :) For a week's worth of studying I think you did really well, hyvää työtä! I love how learning languages brings us together. This was so inspiring.

Learning vocabulary for me is easy. Putting them together and making a sentence is the challenging part for me. This conversation has motivated me. I wish I could get a fluent person to practice with or if someone can give me pointers on how to go about it

Incredible that you learned such a difficult language to the point that you could carry on a conversation after only a week. My husband and I have been married 37 years and he can only put together a few sentences even though he knows a lot of vocabulary. Very impressive.

Upeaa!! Suomi on niin erilainen kieli, että sitä voi olla vaikea oppia. I think the grammar is the most difficult part of Finnish language. So the quickest way to learn the language is to just learn the basic words first. Drop them in whatever order and let us Finns teach you from there :) We respect anyone who even tries to learn this stone age language. Many Finnish related languages in Russia are suffering under present Russian policy. Stefano is speaking like a native Finn. Molto bene :) I think it has something to do with similar pronunciation between Italian and Finnish. We say the word as it's written, different from English pronunciations. So, Michael learning that much Finnish in a week is unbelievable!!!

Tosi kiva vaikuttava keskustelu! 👍

Fancy that huh Michael matey?! XD Finland is country which is WAY much younger than I don’t know.... EVERY major English football club you can think of! 😃😃😃😂😂😂 No really! Finland will indeed be 103 years old this year sometime in early December and it’s all thanks to one dude, Johan Snellman that Finnish is a national language of today! 😃😃😃 And even though Finnish is super balls hard to learn, the Finns and Finnish culture are indeed all totally AWESOME! 😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍 Full stop! 😃😃😃😃 It’s exaggerated a quite a bit but they say they have the world’s best educational system and the Finns gaves wor saunas and Angry Birds! 😃😃😃😃 See? And they got independence TWICE! 😃😃😃 See? Evidence that the Finns are awesome! 😃😃😃😃🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮

Have you thought about revisiting Norwegian?

  • @ThePolyglotFiles

I have! I've been focusing on Danish lately, but I keep thinking about doing a crash course in Norwegian once I have a good base in Danish. I also stumble upon Norwegian from time to time, and I am constantly amazed at how similar it is to Danish. Any recommendations for Norwegian learning resources?

  • @Oddn7751

    @Oddn7751

If you have a good grasp of Danish, I don't think you have to do much other than get used to how it sounds. Like watching Norwegian media. tv.nrk.no is great for exposure if you have a VPN. TV-Norge also has a KZread channel where some of the videoes have subtitles. If you're not about that, then I don't know. I feel it's a great way to immerse yourself with the culture, but I know that it's not a preferred way to learn for everyone.

  • @Oddn7751

Also, kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2qkms6clN2dcto.html is a video explaining the different dialects. Though it is in Norwegian, he speaks very clearly, so you should get alot of it, I think. It's important to at least learn the major dialects, because Norwegian doesn't have an official standard when it comes to the spoken language.

Great job, but do not tell lies that you are speaking in such a way after a week. Speaking production is the result of constant repetition and many mistakes during the internalization process. So, a week is not enough.
