MASTERING the CAGED SYSTEM to Navigate the Fretboard like a PRO

Музыка

The guitar fretboard is not an easy place to navigate... I think most guitarists will agree with that statement.
Unlike other instruments, you need a MAP to efficiently find your way on the neck. And in my opinion, the best place to start is the CAGED SYSTEM.
In this video, I will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about that CAGED system - what it is and how to use it.
We will explore topics such as:
- Where the CAGED system comes from
- Major and minor triads
- How to map out the fretboard using the CAGED system
- How to practice the CAGED system

Best content on YT for the guitar. The long format fits well for those of us who are willing to learn in depth from others. This is more like a masterclass for the subjects you cover. I have a Bachelor Degree in vocal performance, and I can tell you your presentation, content, introduction to the lingo, and practical applications are easily first year university level and more. The length of the 'master class' is filled with loads of little tips, tricks and insights and subjects are clearly explained. One thing I like is that concepts that are commonly known among experienced players are explained in ways that we may not have heard put quite that way, so we get a new insight that we may have missed in the past. Don't change a thing.

This is by far the best lesson on the CAGED system!!! Unlike other lessons that only discuss the CAGED shapes , This lesson starts with the foundation. It covers how the guitar is tuned and how chords are created, how the Major & minor 3rd work, how the B string impact chord/scale shapes. The part about the sister/symmetrical shapes is an eye opener and makes complete sense as to finding the roots on the E, A & D string. You don’t need any other CAGED lesson after watching this. Just a brilliant way of teaching and making sense of everything. Guillaume, vous êtes un trésor!

I also watched your pentatonic video and I can finally see the chords, triads and scales and how it all works together.. Now I just have to practice it.

Outstanding Video! the KZread algorithm served this video up to me. I have watched several videos on the CAGED system in the past and always came away thinking that it was a waste of time and rather pointless. I skipped the first half and started at 25:10 as I am familiar with the earlier content. I really appreciate how you put chapters in your videos. That way a 1 hour video does not feel like one hour. This video for the first time showed it's real value. I have never seen a video which connects the *voicings* with the shapes. Plus I really appreciate how you explained that caged allows you to play in one spot. Great Job.

I think your format, the way you teach and the in-depth aspects ARE your niche in this market! I mean who else is doing it? I should say that also say that you having a proper education in music, being a professor, etc. obviously give you credibility right out of the gate. Guys like Marty Schwartz are great for beginners looking to learn songs, quickly and now and again showing some basic theory for beginners. But, there are slew of these types. Then you have those who go over l the cage system is without telling you what to do with it. You end up walking away with the shapes without practical knowledge of how to use the system. And then there’s a bunch of people like me who are hungry for the more in depth education, and I think that’s why most of here and it is much appreciated.

I had never heard of the CAGED concept until recently and it seemed overwhelming. But I do know barre cords, open cords, triads and some scales. The way that you have explained this actually makes a ton more sense than any other video I've watched and helped me realize I already know a lot of the CAGED idea but I didn't know I did lol. I have been playing guitar for over forty years and you have just explained something that has been puzzling me ever since I heard about - admittedly only five years ago. The CAGED system is something that I have been really trying to get to grips with, but all attempts with books have proved unsuccessful, Even though I am familiar with barre chords, I could not 'see' it. You have shown me the key to it in JUST ONE SHORT HOUR. That is no time at all. I now look forward to practicing the progressions, along the lines that you have demonstrated. Thank you again.

I have never used the CAGED system cuz nobody ever broke it down the way you do. HUGE KUDOS!!! Taking your own time teaching as long as you want to make people better is what you are doing. The people who complain will NEVER GO ANYWHERE cuz they was instant gratification. Typical millenial crap. I have been playing 40 yrs and never heard of CAGED till a few years back. My teaching was self-done with lessons for the first 2 years learning modes and scales. As a metal head , my interest was my chops. I honed them to a razor edge and still do. But I want to thank you sir, you are a blessing. Ignore the lazy peons because they are bratty and selfish children who just wont EVER work for hours on end to play the guitar well. You keep it up brother, and thank you again.

This was a very good video and Learned alot from it understood all of it I'm beginning to see that caged system is quiet a usefull tool not just to find chords all up and dawn the neck but to find chord tones and arpeggios and also helps develop knowledge of were all the notes are on the fretboard and can also help with chord construction and chord tone targeting i always thought it was just a way to learn how to play chords up and dawn the neck but realising now that it awnsers alot more then that and now I can see how important this tool can be. Also i like the long videos because it means your teaching it properly .

Amazing content! Really appreciate the effort you put into this. As a wrinkly septarian I'll need to play this through again for it to sink in but you explain things exceptionally well and you deserve a big pat on the back for putting this content out.
