I have played for 40 years and am finally learning the WHY and REASONs of music theory, and beautifully explained for a self taught musician like myself. 1. You are a great teacher. It's not enough to have the knowledge, it's a whole other's thing to be able to communicate that knowledge, in a way that makes sense to a beginner. Rick Beato is very knowledgeable, but I can't follow his train of thought regarding musical theory. 2. You have great pace, prenounciation and articulation. Makes it enjoyable and easy to catch what you are saying. 3. Love that you are no nonsense, background music, shouting, gimmicks and so on. I'm a 43 year old, selftaught guitarist. Tried different ways to understand theory. None of them as effective as you are. Keep up the good work 😊

I've been playing all my life and even at my advanced age and years on the instrument, I still have troube hearing disodents. Your video has given me a glimmer of hope of learning or "hearing" these guys. Thanks a lot for putting this out there. Its now obvious to me that I have completely missed this 'training' at my earliest beginnings into guitar and I now have to go back to the beginning. In short, I simpy have to quit memorizing passages and start picking them from the air. Again, thanks!

The context determines it. Which is why you need to keep learning theory deeper to shine light on those nuances. That would be like asking: “when would you use 3-1 or 1+1? Since they equal the same. Depends on the problem you are solving and the story or context behind the calculation.

Not really else they wouldn’t have two different names. They refer to the same distance between two notes though.

As a teacher and KZreadr, myself, trying to grow my channel, and establish myself as a source for players to find valuable information, I love your presentation, pacing and clarity in the way you teach! I observed that so many teachers speak in a way where its almost as if they assume you can keep up with the jargon. But for beginners and intermediate players, certain concepts can go right over their heads! I like to present info in a very similarly digestible way as you! Clear, steady and full of practical examples! I really appreciated this video, the way you present your info and have subscribed :) Would it be crazy to ask if you'd check out some of my stuff, network a little, and possibly get a critique on my teaching style as I'm just starting off? Amazing work!

I gave up after a while even though I'm interested in this topic. I think most people who know what intervals are don't need to be convinced that they need to study them nor that they need to actually study the guitar. This desperately needed editing

Actually like the content and presented well. however Look up the definition of interval, whether in music or not definition still doesn't change. I'm a big stickler I'm not changing established and empirical definitions

But I'm trying to save my weekends just to spend time with my guitar without thinking about school or anything. 😁 I just hope I can still improve with 3-4 days practice every week. Did you still find some time to play when you took up an engineering degree?

A major 2nd and a minor 2nd are both one whole step. Correct?

I believe a minor 2nd which is also referred to as flat (b) 2 or b9 in more advanced understanding is a half step not a whole step.

Thank you for wonderful teaching, however, I think very detailed explanation loses the student attention. It took 14 minutes and 44 seconds to start hearing what intervals are! I would take the same video and trim it and call it intermediate and the original video the very beginners students/audience. Throughout the video I had to constantly fast forward to get the punchline. Other than this, I believe your knowledge is very much needed. Thank you 😊 🙏

@willmetz_music I'm watching your caged masterclass video for the first time right now, and early in the video, you respond to people complaining about the length of your videos. I have been using KZread to learn or improve a handful of skills over the past couple of years (woodworking, coding, animating, guitar/bass/trombone) and I have to tell you that you are a legitimate beacon of hope. There's such an overwhelming amount of pulp / empty content effectively bottlenecking the algorithm. You are the real deal. A legitimate teacher. Thank you homie
