I have a question if you are able to answer it. Are designer eyeglass lenses better than those at the optical store? I was thinking about purchasing a pair of Gucci frames and have the sunglasses lenses replaced with a prescription type lens from the optical store . Thank you!

Generally, no but it will depend on the quality of the replacement lens and the lenses the designer uses. In the case of Gucci, they’re non remarkable lenses, wouldn’t even hesitate. They’re the most basic lenses available.

I've had my progressive lenses for 3 days now and instantly felt comfortable except for reading. For reading, I have to really look down for it be clear. I've had my multi-focal contacts for a year now and find them to be all-around better.

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 In my case, I think what happened is I bought the eyeglass frame and the progressive lenses at the same time. And the plastic lenses that came with the eyeglass frame were much more lightweight, and the optician used that on my face for the fitting. And when I finally received my progressive lenses, they were heavier causing my eyeglasses to sit further down on my face and really affecting my reading area.

Nope. The fit could’ve changed, sure. But the weight of the lenses alone won’t make it ride lower on the face. If it’s slipping down that’s another matter entirely.

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 I hotglued kitchen shelf-liner pads to my black plastic eyeglass frame nosepad area 7 hours ago so my glasses sit higher up on my face(my eyes more centered in the lens), and now it's perfect. I can see everything perfectly, including reading comfortably. Problem is, I have a low-bridge nose. And now I'm loving my progressives!

@aragorn318 nice fix! There are stick on pads that can go on frames to do a similar thing, and there are frames made with a built up bridge (TC Charton kills it here) designed specifically for that as well. That said, ideally it should’ve been fit with that in mind and either adjusted before hand or measured as it fit.

Is there a difference in lens design between a regular progressive lens ordered with this prescription SPH(+2.25), ADD(+1.00) versus a computer progressive lens (for "Near-Range" up to 1m) ordered with this prescription SPH(+1.25), ADD(+2.00) ? -- For a near-range computer progressive, they usually add half the ADD power to the sphere for the intermediate (top) section, which should produce something very similar for the two lenses, isn't it? Or is there something really different in how a computer progressive is designed?

Yes and no. The net result isn’t significantly far off (and I’ve made many computer setups that way in the past with design limitation at another office where we didn’t have access to computer or workspace / near variable focus lenses). These are actually degressive lenses rather than progressive lenses and the underlying math and surface is achieved in a very different way. Actually just got in my first near variable degressive using the latest in lateral power band lens design technology and it is truly the closest variable power lens to a single vision lens I’ve ever inspected on my career. The power management of these was absolutely bonkers…. Can’t wait to start using them at scale’

I'm a retired photographer and artist. (Well, photographers never retire axactly.) So sparkling clear vision is important to me. I tried top end progressives about 15 years ago with a -5 prescription. I hated them and never wore them. Again, I tried another progressive about 7 years ago. I hated them too. And never wore those either. Both pairs were high end frames and lenses. Both times I bought cheapo bifocals from a chain type opticion, and those are what I wore. Last year I had cateract surgery and my new prescription is -2. I figured with a lighter prescription and more advanced technology that I might get used to progressives. Nope. I wore them for 10 days and the eye strain was impressive, not to mention the headaches. I literally just got back from the opticion where I returned my progressives to be remade into old fashioned bifocals. I guess I am a "non-adaptor." Unless through some alchemy a design is fashioned that eliminates the blurry peripheral vision, I will continue on with bifocals. They work. And think of them as vintage or retro or classic, not old fashioned. Vinyl records came back. Maybe bifocals will become a "thing" and the same with real glass lenses. (My old frames have been reglazed, one as mirrored sunglasses and one as a single vision with a violet tint.)

Actually had a request of low add lined bifocals from the younger gen for a short while for the look. I’m sure it’ll be a thing. As for the progressives… this is actually an interesting conundrum and you were MORE likely to be a non adapt post surgery. I have my own series of voodoo for handling this but here’s the cool side Considering Lasik, Cataract Surgery, or Other Refractive Surgery? Watch This! kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaGbpNugdNjYmsY.html

Omg, this sounds a horrible adjustment period and way too much compromise. Luckily I don't need any sort out sight correction (knock on wood) but this would drive me crazy. Reminds me of the gradient sunglass lenses which can also be annoying in some situations. With the cost of quality eyeglasses nowadays, I would rather have a laser eye surgery and I would just buy a few pair of nice shades from the money I would spend on these high-tech, complicated eyeglasses. 😅 And a serious advise to anyone, I used to need a -1,25 correction, then I started taking Lutein regularly. Now 10 years later, I'm still taking lutein daily and no longer nearsighted for at least 5-6 years. I can now read all of those small numbers and letters at the bottom of the board at the opticians with my pure eyes and for a comparison when putting on any glass with as little as -0,50 and -0,25 now causing dizziness, blurry image. Taking them off, everything becomes nice and sharp. I'm truly impressed. Not saying this is the cure for everyone but certainly can make things better and there is nothing to lose if someone tries (apart from a few bottle of beers' price). 😊

Leutin is a solid supplement to add to any routine vitamin intake, but changing the physical capacity of the eye it does not. (It’s not going to reshape your cornea, nor change the power of the crystalline lens in your eye, nor change the actual axial length of your eye, which are the objective factors that create your lens power and thus determine the needed corrective power. Now that aside, I’m happy you found a solution that works for you, just know, it’s not what you think, and ultimately you’re going to come back to needing some type of correction. In the mean time, enjoy that sharp vision unaided while it’s around 😎. Makes it easy to build up a killer sunglasses collection!!! 😁 FWIW, this video is 100% about creating a realistic expectation and not the bullshit fluff most people are selling everyone on today. This is for a true and proper expectation and use of progressive lenses that reduces failure of use. Expect the worst. Get the best. Smile the whole time. I pitch it like the worst experience ever, and when it’s done right and things are crystal and beautiful in minutes or hours everyone is ecstatic 😁 and on the rare occasion we have something more complicated and it does take longer. All good already covered 💪🏻

Tried them. To much trouble. Getting old sucks anyhow with so many things that change we were never told about. Bottom line. Mine reside in a drawer. Very expensive and just to much trouble to adjust and they are dangerous to a aging person is my belief. Mine are very happy in the drawer but my pocket cries about wasting money. Each to his own.

I mentioned this in my other reply but likely a poor fit or lens design going on here. “Expensive” is pretty relative as most pairs I work with are well over $1000. I’m sure there is happy vision out there that doesn’t make you feel like you’re captain of the high seas. I’ve solved this for many of the years! 😎

You should have drawn those zones on the marker board behind you. We couldn’t see the markings you made on the lens, so the information is not conveyed ideally.

What marker board? That’s my wall ☠️. I’ve actually done this video before and overlayed B roll of exactly that, however, and overwhelmingly the comments were to do it on a lens so it makes more sense. 🤷‍♂️ can’t make everyone happy. Fortunately for you both versions exist.
