    So... for 45 years of my life I've been using the muscles in my eyes to look at things NOT directly in front of me. When driving or especially riding a motorcycle, I don't turn my head to look at every single potential hazard, I monitor my peripheral vision and if something needs attention, I shift my eyes there because it's faster and then I shift them back. So now I have to un-train myself from that. When reading from a book or using a computer, I also scan my eyes left and right. With my progressive lenses, when I look at a sentence on my screen, if I can focus on the center of the sentence, the beginning and end are blurred, so now I have to scan my head left and right to use a regular 25" monitor? I find this whole thing absurd. I just paid more money for a pair of glasses than I ever have in my life before because they're supposed to make my life easier, and I was told that the more expensive lenses would be easier to get used to. Instead they've made life harder. The only time I'd ever probably use them would be sitting watching TV and switching to reading a book in my hand or my phone. How often do I need to do that? I've given these things over a week, watched every video I can find and forced myself to wear them as much as I can stand. Nothing works. At the end of the day they just seem utterly impractical for me. I don't know who they WOULD work for. I mean, who lives their life almost never using their peripheral vision?

    I'm picking up my first pair of glasses ever in a few hours, and they're progressives. I am a little concerned for all the reasons you say. Like she says people move their chin left to right when they read. They do? wtf? For reading, my eyes move, not my head. When I drive my eyes jump around the scene constantly. Hopefully this is going to work out.

    Ive had progressive glasses for 4 years now and got a new prescription recently & I’m struggling and I’ve never heard any of this or any doctor ever go over any of this! 😳 they just give me my prescription and get glasses and that’s it really other than typical fitting and when they come in another fitting. But I didn’t even know. This video is so helpful!

    Oy - sorry to hear that! We always prefer to go over the lens usage with our patients when their glasses are dispensed. Progressive lenses in particular do have a learning curve, so it's important to review your fields of vision for distance, intermediate, & near when picking up your glasses. Also, it can be expected to take anywhere from a few days, up to a couple weeks, to adjust to the use of the lenses, so it's important you know what to expect. Glad our video is helpful! Let us know if there's anything else we can cover.

    Years ago (prob 2012) I got my 1st pair of Progressive lenses. When I went to get my next pair of glasses (prob 2015), they didn't give me a Progressive script and I have been struggling. Now I know more about them, I will be going to see a new doctor who I already know understands more about Progressive lenses.

    Eye doctors are just people that do manage the eye test machine. I needed glasses for the first time and they didn’t explain anything. Just gave me a prescription for far sighted and said my vision isn’t bad. I can see things close up but not far away it’s blurry. My glasses do the reverse. I can see far but can’t see close up with the glasses. My moron doctor didn’t even let me know progressive lenses existed

    Definitely took me a bit to get used to my 1st pair of Progressive glasses. Driving I could see out great, but trying to see the dash, like my speed limit would be blurry unless I looked down thru the bottom of my glasses. Now that I've been wearing progressive glasses for a few years. They are comfortable for me. My last 2 pairs that I've purchased was online at a 1/3 of the cost & better quality have been great.. know your PD. Luckily my PD is on my Prescription.

  • @EyecareOhio

    @EyecareOhio

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad you've found success with progressives! Yes, knowing your PD is crucial when ordering online. If patients experience issues with online orders, we always recommend having your doctor's office or nearby optical check that the prescription, PD & Seg Height are correct before you panic! These measurements are very important to be sure that your prescription sits at the correct place in the lens, which is largely impacted by the frame & lens size.

    Yes very helpful, zoom complicates this when people show a detailed chart. I cover college football games and new progressives help me read the player numbers from press box. File reports on my cell phone and am taking glasses off to type and proof read. Right now have mobile phone six inches from my eyes. Notice that when reading my left eye is slightly blurry. Any Suggestions? Ken

  • @EyecareOhio

    @EyecareOhio

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Ken! As far as zoom goes, you may want to try 'zooming' in (Ctrl +) your screen so that the font/charts are larger on your monitor. Regarding your near vision (holding the phone at 6in) & left eye blurriness, you'll want to consult your doctor.

    I've had my glasses re-done several times and no matter we tried, I have to pick up the glasses 1/2" to clearly read fine print. I can read normal print, but it's not crystal clear unless I pick up the glasses by 1/2" so I can read through the reading segment with the add-on.

    Hi Patricia - Good question. In short, they are lenses that provide correction for distance, intermediate (arm's length), & near vision. They progressively get stronger from top to bottom of the lens. We will put this our list of topics to cover in more detail. Thanks!

    So why not make lenses more inline with your natural vision? When you read your head barely moves, your eyes to most of the moving. When I’m driving or mountain biking my head is pointing forward but my eyes do all the moving. Why must there be a tiny, tunnel vision sweet spot, why can’t lenses be made so that the sweet spot is the entire width of the lens? The biggest pain the butt is when my glasses sag down my nose and I’m having to move my head to see things clearly.
