    I have been using progressive lenses for years, they are just so good, I got them because I am a gamer. It takes about two to four days sometimes to get used to the new prescription, for me about a day or so. Though, some people expect their eyes to adjust straightaway to something new, typical people, know nothing, think they know everything. Though having said that, if you feel there is something wrong with your prescription, you can take them back to your optometrist and get them sorted, get another set of lenses if need be, there is a time limit (find this out). Some people unfortunately are not suited to progressive lenses. I don't use progressive lenses when I go out of the house, I use distance glasses. Though at home, for reading, writing, the computer, the TV, cooking, cleaning, gardening or looking across the room, they are great.

    Progressive Glasses. If your job depends on reading documents, letters and so forth, like being an attorney-at-law or judge or prosecutor or paralegal. Progressive glasses are the worst option because you do not have time for your eyes to adjust. You need the next day and do not have time for your eyes to adjust to see progressive glasses. So, I bought regulat reading glasses. So, I have 2 pairs of glasses.

  • @trucks1451

    @@trucks1451 Im saying that progressive glasses are not effective for immediate reading, it is better to get reading glasses because the next day you need to read documents, letters, etc., and by using progressive glasses its going to take time -- weeks to allow your eyes to adjust. So, in that case, reading glasses is the better option.

    Im having difficulty in adjusting with eyezen 3 max. Its been 2 months now. The vision is clear and i learn to look at the top for distance and at the bottom for reading. Im nearsighted so reading is actually easy for me. But the problem is when i wear it in the morning. Its clear but i can feel a bit dizzy specially when going to the bathroom or in close space and its very disturbing because i cant focus on work since im more concern of being dizzy on and off. Specially when using pc for 15 mins then looking afar then dizzy comes on and off. I really dont know what to do. Always going to the technician to make adjustment and still feel on and off diziness. Sometimes i go back to single lens and the dizziness go away but struggles on reading on my phone. Want my eyes to adjust on this and knowing that eyezen is not a full progressive but already struggling to adjust. 😢

  • @myglassesguy

    @myglassesguy

    4 ай бұрын

    My initial thought is to have the optician lower your #eyezen power to 1 or 2 This will still give you the boost to help with eyestrain but with less power which should help with the dizziness. I’ve heard this feedback before when the boost is too high bc your eyes are having trouble toggling between the 2 focal points. I’ll give it more thought but that’s my first inclination. (One more note here is dizziness can also be due to other health conditions but from the context of your question I am assuming that is not the case for you but consult your doctor on that part.)

    Thank you for this! I just turned 40. Ever since I was a kid, I've been near sighted. I thought that's gonna be it my whole life (currently at +3.50) but boy was I wrong! I only found out that eyes get older too (logically), and we are prone to presbyopia later in life starting at 40. Well, mine started last year. I was confused why I suddenly can't read anything closer to my eyes anymore. They start getting blurred the moment they get nearer. I was in denial, but finally accepted the fact just this month. I'm ready to ditch my one focal eyeglasses and switch to getting my first ever progressive lenses. I'm looking at Varilux XR. Is that viable for me given that I'm near-sighted and now also far-sighted?

With that RX, you would be eligible for either a progressive lens (with 3 focal points...distance, computer and reading) or a "boost lens" which is a small add power (about +1.00) at the bottom of the lens for reading and full distance at the top. I have tried multiple times in the last two decades to adjust to progressives. I can't stand the junk vision off center. And the wavey swimming feeling gives me vertigo. Add to that the chromatic aberration with most plastic lenses and it's definitely a no-go. (CR39, and trivex work ok.) No insult intended, but the whole idea of inferior vision at a huge premium simply feels like a marketing scam by a monopolized industry. Maybe I'm the only person that prefers to pay for superior vision with bifocal spectacles and real glass lenses. But last year I tried to order glass lenses for some antique frames worn by my great grandfather and was told that just the week before, glass became unavailable. My last pair of plastic lens progressives cost about $900! That's absurd.

    thank you for watching the video and sharing your feedback! I appreciate your perspective. Bifocals are still an excellent option for many people... it's hard to beat that edge to edge vision in the distance and reading. The computer distance can be a challenge for some bifocal wearers. One tip here is to try a progressive lens with a fixed corridor length of 13 or 11, this will be the most similar experience to a bifocal. Glass is an excellent material for optics. The down side is weight and difficulty in manufacturing. Thank you for engaging with the content and sharing your perspective! My distance vision is fine, but I've started needing reading glasses for up close (+1.50). At this point, I would like a pair of glasses I could wear all the time and want something like a progressive with no prescription in the top, but the more and more I research it, it seems like there are a lot of drawbacks with progressives. Additionally, when I tilt my eyes down, even just a little, I have a very hard time focusing with my non-dominant eye. Looking straight through my reading glasses, everything is crystal clear with both eyes. But like I said, tilting my eyes down a little causes my non-dominant eye to struggle. I'm going to schedule an appointment with my optometrist soon... any tips on making sure they are able to help me find the right glasses?

  • @myglassesguy

    @myglassesguy

    ok, yes that all makes sense. you are on the right track by talking to your optometrists about the focus issues. And on your question... I have many clients who love the "plano-progressive" option... no RX at the top but as you go down to to the mid and bottom of the lens, you get the boost you need. 3 thoughts here: 1. ask for their best progressive lens as this always gives you the best opportunity to adapt and have clear vision | 2. ask for the corridor length of fixed 13 or 15mm | 3. with your add power, you could try the Eyezen Plus 4 boost lens: www.essilorpro.com/resources/eyezen/eyezen-plus

    @@myglassesguy So I went to my optometrist and explained what's up. I was looking for a progressive I could wear all day but since I'm a software engineer with multiple monitors, I was told that's probably going to be less than ideal because even with high-end ones, the intermediate area would be smaller than I'd like. So we wound up with some "office progressives" and I have to say I'm really liking them. They don't have a distance section but everything on my desk is razor sharp. Also, the eye tilt isn't really an issue... I guess that was me not knowing how to wear progressives/bifocals. For some reason I thought you had to really tilt your eyes way down to see through the bottom of the lens, but it's really not the case, it's more a matter of holding the subject matter and angling the direction you're looking. Anyways, thanks again for your help, your videos helped me get in there and know what questions to ask. And with these office glasses, I can actually navigate the hallways pretty easily without having to take them off, which I could not do with my normal reading glasses.

    My eye doctor suggested progressives, but I don't know if it makes sense. I don't need reading glasses even though I'm in my late 40s. I can read fine. The problem is I can't read with my distance glasses on. I have to take them off to look at my phone or sign paperwork at a doctor's office. I mostly wear my distance glasses when I leave the house since I need them for driving. She wanted to put a +0.25 magnification, but I really don't need it and I'm worried it will distort things like trying to look down at the dashboard when driving. Is it possible to get progressives where the bottom doesn't have correction or magnification? Or is that just pointless? What do people like me do when they can't read with their distance glasses but don't need reading glasses? I'm also trying to avoid looking down at my phone too much due to neck problems and like to hold my phone up at eye level. Would that even work with progressive when everything is blurry close up with my distance prescription.

    excellent question, I have often heard similar challenges from my clients. In your case, I would recommend a specialty lens called Eyezen Plus (there are different brands but I know this is a good one). This lens gives you a "boost" at the bottom of the lens. This essentially eliminates the "distance correction" and gives you a small add power (less than 1 diopter). What's unique about this add power is that it is only at the bottom and you will barely notice it. This will only make near vision "more comfortable" without compromising any distance correction or adding any peripheral distortion (like a progressive lens). The only down side for some people is that it does not include any optimized "intermediate" or computer correction. You would simply be using your distance correction for the computer distance. Let me know what other questions you have. I can provide this lens to you remotely. I would send an overnight label for you to send the frame directly to the lab. Let me know if I can help! - josh@enjoyoptical.co

    This is a super helpful video for people trying to understand progressives. Question, I have a pretty strong prescription (-5.25 -2.00 020 and -5.50 -3.00 160) for myopia, astigmatism and exophoria (prismatic correction). I was quoted 1600€ for a pair of top tier Hoya progressive lenses, this includes all the coatings and a 20% tint…. Is that even remotely correct or is that way way overpriced. They’re going into a pair of JMM Vascos so I didn’t want to spare any expense but also don’t want to feel like I’m being ripped off. It’s crazy to think the lenses are way more than the Vasco frames 😅

    Great video!!!! Here's my deal. I am 43 and getting the 40 something eye! hahahahaha I'm already at a 1.5 (for close) and readers help!!!! I have a tiny astigmatism (+0.25) and (-0.5) for far and I am getting more and more reliant on the readers and that is becoming an inconvenience. I was thinking about progressives so I would just have them on my face anyway. I live in Brazil and progressive lens are VERY, I mean VERY expensive so it's not like I can do a little experiment and if it doesn't work out, "Oh well?!". In my case, do you think it is worth giving it a shot or is it better to stick with the readers and suck it up that I have to bring them around with me everywhere? Thank you so much!

    thank you for watching, and excellent question! In your case, I would recommend sticking with the readers for now. If your distance RX increases and you need glasses for more than just reading, I would go for the progressive option. 2 questions I ask people when making this decision... 1. do you want to wear glasses more often? (aka all the time) 2. are you willing to make the investment? hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

    @@myglassesguy Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! Well, I pulled the trigger lol. The glasses should be ready by the end of this month. If I remember to do so, I will try to give some feedback here to maybe help someone with my question. I will say if I thought it was worth it or not. I got some rad Ray bans, so at the least I will look cool! hahahahaha Thanks again, hugs from Brazil. Keep up the good job, I subscribed and I look forward to more content.

    That is quite frustrating! It’s hard to tell bc there is an adjustment for new wearers which you already know. You can always take the glasses to another shop and ask them if you received the lenses you paid for. For “branded” lenses there are watermarks on the left side of the lens. You can find a list of what the symbols represent online. This is a way to confirm your investment as well. Let me know if you have any follow up questions!

    I just chose the most expensive, latest technology with the widest view. It will be ready in a few days, with 6 months eye adjustment trial period. I am praying and hoping for the best.

    Opticians in my neck of the woods would answer that question about how wide of a field of view is in the most vague way possible: "It just depends on your prescription and the lab we send it too, they are almost all the same, would you like me place an order"

    Wish I'd seen this video before I wasted a lot of $ on multiple pair from Zenni. Very, very poor progressive lens optics. When it comes to progressive lenses there's a big difference.

    Distortion on any progressive lenses, no matter how much you pay or what brand, is always going to be more than you expect (just lie the price...LOL). You have to get used to it. Don't give up too soon. BTW, make sure your optician/optometrist is well rated because it is not uncommon for opticians and the people they hire to blurt out whatever they think you want to hear when you ask those 3 questions. LensCrafters and places like that only have sales people that shoehorn you into a pair of eyeglasses and hem and haw at all your questions. You can't prove that they lied to you. About 80% of the time, they will claim it's not their fault if your eyeglasses are unusable.

    No matter who makes my glasses, they ALWAYS put the reading portion way too high. Thus, I have to walk with my head pointed down but my eyes pointed up in order to see ahead. Painful and ridiculous. So I mention this every single time I order glasses, and yet it still happens. For the love of gahhhhh, put my reading portion very, very, low. I don't care where my pupils measure, put the reading far lower than you want to. Nope. Useless professionals. Listen. LISTEN. Opticians get stuck in the calculations of standard people but not every person is standard.

    So you Pay for glasses and they slap some lenses in some frames then tell you your eyes have to adjust to the glasses? Why did we spend our hard earned dollars on something that was made for OUR eyes, But ISNT? Eye doctors are no better than used car salesmen. Sorry but that is how I feel right now. Just got a new set of Lenses yesterday and the distortion field starts immediately to the left. I've never felt so out of balance to the point of Sea sickness. It'll cost a crap load more money but I feel I need a look from another Salesman.

    Thank you for sharing your experience… very frustrating indeed. Because you have shared your thoughts, I know many more people will be helped by this dialogue. It also helps me know what to share on the channel for helping others! None of us want to spend money (especially a lot of money) on something that does not function for us! There are a few troubleshooting activities we can do that may identify the issue. I’m happy to schedule a free digital consultation if you are interested. We could even record the experience so others could also be helped if you are open to that. Feel free to text me at the shop (405.283.6837) or email directly at josh@enjoyoptical.co Thanks again for watching and engaging with the content!

    I had exactly the same experience and am having my glasses remade as single vision--I'll just suffer with bad close-up vision for now. Remember that just because your eye doctor gave you a prescription, doesn't mean that the minimum-wage part-timers in the retail portion of the eyeglass shop who are actually fitting you for those expensive lenses, know what they're doing. In my case they told me my eyeglass frames were large enough for progressive lenses, when in fact they are several millimeters too small (in vertical height, so there is not enough room for the 3 vision fields). Additionally, they did not measure my pupillary distance properly, so the focal points in my lenses are not where they should be. So a total screwup, but they wanted $400 for the glasses (and that's just the lenses, not the frames).
