Master Hairdresser Warns Why Stylist Can't Cut Shags

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Why can't modern hairdressers cut a shag? Well, the simple answer is LAYERING!
In this video, I share why you are not getting the shag you want.

I KNEW it was because of layering, I keep telling my hairdresser I want layers and she just keeps giving me long layers “so your hair’s all one length” NO! DON’T WANT IT ALL ONE LENGTH, I WANNA LOOK LIKE I JUST GOT OUT OF BED, BUT ALL THE TIME

So true, soooo many attempts to get good layering at salons and in the end I've ended up doing it myself for the past few years. It feels like stylists don't get excited about doing a cut. They like doing color.

OMG ! You are a master, Jake ! You cut hair like Jay Sebring, who was my mother's friend. He cut Jim Morrisons hair of The Doors. My mother learned his method, so I remember her doing a lot of these cuts in the 70s. I appreciate the tips now that she's gone since I'm not a professional. I'm learning so much from your vids ! Thank you & God Bless you !

I came home didn't cry cause I know hair grows back. What I did was get a jar and put $5 in it and the lable I made reads, " Saving For A Jake Thompson Haircut" so there it is ill see you in 6-8mons it will take to get my length back !

lack of layer angle seemed to be common in early pivot point (common US technique) although over and under direction of cutting angle was present in the teachings. Vidal Sassoon, credited as it's creator, taught the Shag as one of his must know haircuts which was crazy stuff for the day! I learnt that version in 87 and still use it to the surprise of most hairdressers today ...

Hey Cathy, yes it can be done on fine hair. The only thing your hairdresser needs to do is cut your layers & bottom length with a more blunt line, avoid adding any texture or making the ends thinner etc. I talk about cutting for fine hair in this video(kzread.info/dash/bejne/lIOqkpV7m6bPoKw.html) Good luck Cathy! I was considering using your DIY shag video. But now I’m wondering if I should do this one on myself. Is it possible to hold my hair at that angle for the front and back and cut it? I sent a video to a stylist before like two weeks before my appointment and we talked shag and lots of layers at the appointment, she only trimmed my perimeter, texturized my bangs and used thinning shears to remove weight from the back. I was so disappointed. I have a large step in back of my head/hair and looks very weird.

My theory is that current hairdressers are more into coloring because that's what makes more money. Another thing is that they're used to women not cutting their hair much because you see the Bella Hadids, Gigi Hadids, or the Kardashian-Jenners with long waves. A boring look if you ask me. So many hairdressers get comfortable and don't hone their skills when it comes to haircutting. That's my humble opinion.
