The best advice is to practice every day, 1 hour minimum, you can do 30 mins, rest, then another 30, and keep going. I would also recommend you listen to African music in your daily routine, ie, while driving, when you can hear the note's it won't take long to memorize sections of rythym. When you can sing a rhythm then you will be able to play it. You teach your hands the muscle memory of hitting a tone, slap, and bass, then you sing what you want to play and your hands do it.

Inspiring. I fell in love with the Djembe on one of my travels and took back one home. Limited as a Djembe beginner can be, I used it on one of my church's services last December, a big risk for a guitar player!!. But people loved the sound on Puerto Rican latin riffs I played (Plena, Parranda, Villancico...). A great and versatile instrument!
