it is if you have the right teacher. you could learn really quick in africa, because they teach by using phonetics, ie singing the sounds, then you end up wiring your hand movements to the music you make in your head with drum language, kra ka ta ta , ka kra ka ta ta, kra ka ta ta ta ka. you don't think much about your hands at all when you have enough practice.

Ya'll are getting to deep within this. Drumming is for both rituals, fun, and just something to do. It's not always as deep as you might think. I know this because I am a drummer. The captain of my team, and I know this rhythm and many more. It doesn't need hat much concentration, just timing. Yes, it is complex, but not that much. All you need is rhythm, the ability to keep timing, and to play with both hands, when it comes to dundun, songba, and kinkeni.

A perfect combination of the conversation among the drummers. Really good without being unreachable. The rhythms can be understood with clarity. I love it. The bass drum rhythmic backdrop is often missing from most drumming that is playing the djembe drum but missing the bass drums and bells that provide that groove to support the djembe. Where are all you bass drums groovey folks.

it is if you have the right teacher. you could learn really quick in africa, because they teach by using phonetics, ie singing the sounds, then you end up wiring your hand movements to the music you make in your head with drum language, kra ka ta ta , ka kra ka ta ta, kra ka ta ta ta ka. you don't think much about your hands at all when you have enough practice.
Tu es et tu resteras le meilleur. Grand chef
Man this is some great music I wish I could experience this in person or at the very least by their CD
You're music will live on forever 🥰
My man is just vibin' and he looks and sounds so good doing it

Awesome rhythm's, the energy and swing is immense, so raw!
Awesome. I played in a drum circle 3 years in Galveston 2005-08. Loved it. Quite magical.
I simply love it for peace to my African family.
this is so addictive i cannot stop watching this
J'adore les tam tams.. Bravo

I had a Kenyan American drum teacher in church and this was the first song I learned, it was one of my favorites! utukufu kwa ngoma, utukufu kwa muziki!
I LOVE this video. I bookmarked it and have made it a part of my cardio workout.

Almost 3 months ago I had a heart attack and had to have a stent put in my heart. I told my cardiac rehab nurse about this video and how I found videos of a African dance instructor from Zimbabwe and paired her videos with the music of Mamady's videos. I dance to this music every day. Thank you Mamady for all that you are doing.
Foolish person that I am. I grew up without ever hearing rhythms like this! Oh what western people miss by not experiencing the tempos and rhythms of such powerful instruments.

Really? The rhythms and tempo are due to the power of the INSTRUMENTS? *shaking my head*

Maybe "some" Western folk miss out, but by no means all. Black neighborhoods all over the States hear this from guys getting together on street corners, or in parks in the summer, to beat the drums.

I don't think I made myself clear. I count myself some sort of fool..not to have been FORTUNATE enough to have had this wonderful music around me as I was growing up. And now to have it..well, better late than never, right??

¡Hermosa música y cultura! ¡Un gran abrazo desde Uruguay a toda esta hermosa gente! ♥
Aaaahhhh....finally....a version of Kuku with intricate stylings without the showboat play-as-fast-and-as-loud-as-you-can stuff. I played Guinea drumming for a few years (I mostly do Ghanaian drumming), this was INCREDIBLY helpful to remind myself of the real Kuku, and get some ideas on how to groove on this totally sweet dundun groove. Thanks so much for posting this!
Amo percussão!😍Isso é afinação e ritmo na veia!!!Amei. Gratidão
Esto es una fiesta y todo el mundo esta invitado!!!!!!
So very good. The groove in this is great.
RIP Mamady Keita
Holy Sh**, that was spellbinding!! Takes complex poly rhythms and makes it look like he's waiting for an egg to boil. Effortless and masterful. Chapeau...
When he plays totally off rhythm it is so masterfully done that it evokes in my mind some sort of spirit being that has total dominion over the realm it finds iteslf in...it can dance and manipulate the arena to its heart's content....the true sign of a master...
The level of concentration and clarity of mind, body and presence (and heart) to be able to play traditional african drumming is misunderstood by many. This is a serious spiritual healing art form and I am grateful to have been in the medicine of this music for 20 years! All cultures have medicine. The world is our healing temple.

Wisstihrwas As I said, even your mind doesn't need to go that deep within it. It's just rhythm and using your hands/arms. It's the same as any band today, just using different instruments and rhythms.
RIP Master
This some of the most beautiful and unique music in a while.
Mamady , i took lessons from him long time ago in brussels, special man thisone , watch the movie about him , verry interresting! He did verry good work spreading the djembe music worldwide , everywhere he was playing and teaching , now he's getting older , dont know if he still plays

Africa to the world in all its glory. This drumming has the power to restore broken spirits, it has mine how beautiful thank you.
We Caribbean people play African drums all the time. Its part of our culture. Same skills. Same rhythms.
