G’day JFR Fam!
Hope all is well and good with you, your families and friends, and of course the fish as well.
This video I got to tag along with my good friend Daniel to pick up some exquisite discus fish - some of which I believe you guys would not have seen yet!
There are some amazing projects happening around Brisbane and as a local breeder and supporter of good fish selling practices, it is with great pleasure to fully support this business on my channel without any incentive.

I can 100% relate to this feeling I had the very first pairs of Tangerine, Snake Skin, WC Heckle and speckled Green Discus in Australia Cost a small fortune but as Id bred Discus on a large scale for many many years I had no doubt it was worth it and it was!!!!!!!! Obviously this was a long time ago, the new strains that are available now are incredible

Thanks Cam! I recently heard about you and it’s nice to actually see a comment from you. I was saying to the mate who mentioned your great accomplishments that next time I’m in Sydney I must buy you two a cup of coffee and pick yah brains 😂
You have beautiful Discus. I HAD a 150 gallon 6 foot long tank…put only put 5 Discus in it & there was constant mayhem! I have a 90 gallon cycled but I am going to wait another month before introducing my Discus. If I put 7-8 in the 90 gallon would that seem reasonable? My tank has a dark background, white sand substrate & just a couple of anubias plants. I am going give the Discus plenty of room to swim around in by not cluttering it. So, what is your thought of 7-8 in my 90 gallon? Respectfully, Marty

I know, right!
High Body and Bulldog are not the same attributes in discus. High Body maintain a smooth round shape that extends upwards to create an oval shape. The Bulldog deformation is classified as a pinching in of the face and base of tail. Bulldogs do not maintain smooth round curves; they can be seen more as a peanut shape or cinched through the middle of their body.
Nice video

Where can you get Discus like that in the USA?
Great looking fish. How was he able to just put them in the tanks without floating them?
@JustinsFishRoom
2 жыл бұрын
The way he explained it to me is that, after a long trip, you have to get them into clean water asap after opening the bags. This is due to the fish building up waste in the bags over the days during transit. Hope this makes sense 😃

@@JustinsFishRoom yes! The ammonia will change in a flash into a poisonous type of nitrite, just as soon as the air hits it! I learned this from someone on Saturday! I'll go back and see which talk I got that from.
Nice fish. From my understanding, and the official gradings, the Albino strains have pink/red eyes only. Still, nice looking fish though.

How many litters or gallons do your tanks have? And how many discus per tank do you put?

200 litres for the discus tank and it has 6 adult discus 🙂👍

Those look look like Tony Tan discus.
I noticed you didn't acclimate these fish; was wondering what your take on this is. Most sellers recommend a drip acclimation over a period of apx. 30 minutes but I usually float my fish for 15-30 minutes before adding water to the bags and allowing them a little time to adjust.

Hi there Keith! From my understanding it is better to use the method shown in the video for fish that have been shipped overseas. This is apparently due to exposure to air for too long makes the water very toxic and can burn the gills of the fish👍
Hi friend forgot to ask .. Your friend Daniel's discus tank, is he only using sponge filter with some bio ball? Kindly and thanks a lot in advance...
@JustinsFishRoom
2 жыл бұрын
Correct 🙂👍 A very simple setup that is commonly used for grow out tanks.
how i can buy them ?
Do you have to feed the yellow discus specific food/diet to keep their colour and not go orange? Cheers
@JustinsFishRoom
2 жыл бұрын
All the discus get the same food (looks green in colour).
My pair have eggs again! Third time in three weeks! Getting closer! Last spawn, some made it to free swimming but never latched to parents. Brought water level down in my 38g maybe too late? Left my 6 Orange Laser Corys in with them but they usually hide under sponge filter, unless they are eating. What can I do to get some fry beyond initial free swimming stage?! Thanks!
@BrisbaneDiscusAquariums
2 жыл бұрын
The parents need to be the darkest thing in the tank for the fry to attach to. I would suggest getting something like a 45cm cube and painting the back, 2 sides and bottom white so it makes the discus the darkest thing in the tank. Also look at finding a light coloured sponge filter to use and have no other fish in the tank. Give that a crack and see how you go
@JustinsFishRoom
2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend just to keep trying and try remove the laser cories as these guys could also stress the parents out🙂👍
Beautiful 🤩 what are you feeding them?

Your fish are ok but you big them up so much It seems to me there aren't many GOOD breeders in OZ Dont take this wrong but if your putting this out worldwide you need to appreciate how much better discus can be in other parts of the world What's with all the new names It seems you rename ing them Why All you showed were common morphs
Why do we see Disqus mostly without 🌱 plants 🌱 ❓❓❓ To me it looks without passion and love,how you put them into the tank 👎 don’t they need some more Adaptation to the new water 💦 quality ❓❓❓ It seems just for business,isn’t it 👎 even they’re beautiful, I have to stop 🛑 watching 🛑
@JustinsFishRoom

Fair enough! The discus are still doing great today but you 100% have a right to not watch if you feel there is something wrong. They actually suffer more if kept in their import water for too long as ammonia becomes toxic for the discus when exposed to air. Thanks for the comment and have a great week!!!
