    I will never buy fishes fully grown or even half fully grown. I always buy fishes small so that i can watch them grow. To me the fun in fish keeping is watching your fish grow in your care.

    It depends how often you need to replace them. It takes a longer time them to grow and if you want to change more often it is nicer to get already bigger fish. Small fish also die easier by accident.

    Discus are unique and require multiple feeds and pristine water in order for them not to get stunted. I understand what people but full grown if you don’t have time to care for them to grow fully

    For some people who wonder why they do not acclimate the fish with water drip method or something similar. That's why: During transit your fish is excreting ammonia and CO2. The CO2 built up within the shipping water helps to keep the pH of the water low. In water with a lower pH, ammonia is much less toxic than the same amount of ammonia would be in a high pH environment. As soon as you open the shipping bag, CO2 begins escaping into the air, and the pH of the shipping water can quickly rise. As the pH rises, it can cause pH shock and also causes the ammonia built up in the shipping bag to become exponentially more toxic. If you open the shipping bag and attempt to gradually acclimate your new fish to your aquarium water by pouring some aquarium water into the shipping bag over a period of time, you are potentially exposing your new fish to irreparable damage. Simply float the bag for 10-20 minutes to match the temperature, open the bag and quickly transfer your new fish into your aquarium with your hands, and discard the shipping water. (source: solid gold aquatics) And in this case, they don't need to adjust the fish to the water temperature because they heat the room and not the aquariums, and with the boxes standing there for while, they already have the right temperature.

    Dude that lowering of pressure trick is bullsh*t. Reducing the water level buy half would reduce the pressure by something like 0.2 %. That ain't gonna have no effect. The trick by lowering the water level may still work (the dude is way more experienced than me), but it does not work for the reason he think it does.

    O Matlo B It's about 1 atm at the surface of the water (pr definition'ish). It would be 2 atm at 10 m under the water. How tall are those tanks? Like 40 cm. 40 cm out of 10 m is 1/250, and you only lower it buy half the hight of the tank. That means you are lowering the water pressure with 1/500 atm, or 0.2 %. The pressure could wary more do to location or weather than that.

  • @valdemarjrgensen8072

    @valdemarjrgensen8072

    It is less than water location and weather could account for. Saying my argument is invalid because I'm not a fish is close to being the dumbest thing I've ever read in a youtube comment. But lets turn it around then. Why would they guy in the video know that's why it works?

  • @valdemarjrgensen8072

    prithvi shetty I'm not saying lovering the water level doesn't work. I'm just saying it's really unlikely it works for the reason he think it does.

  • @10paulg10

    @10paulg10

    7 жыл бұрын

    40cm in 10m is not 1/250, it's 1/25. Being under 1 atm of pressure feels like nothing to us because our blood pressure is pushing back out with 1 atm, making it neutral and we don't feel anything. But go under water for example, you'll feel quite a difference in pressure, even if it may only be 2% in theory. For a body that's already in balance with the 1 atm of pressure, there will be a pretty noticeable change going slightly under water. Don't know how it applies to fish since I don't know how their bodies work, but just thought I'd let you know.

    If you watch Rachel Oleary's video on acclimating fish from a shipment, she has a lot of information on why you don't want to prolong stress by using slow acclimation. She uses a "plop & drop" method to short the amount of time the fish spends in toxic ammonia shipping water.

    Hey Joey, what is your personal opinion on their rack system? I notice it doesn't look like they have the strength of yours. The cross beams seem to be supported by just screws. I'm building a fish room and want it safe, but also wouldn't mind saving on cost a bit. Looks like their racks would take a whole lot less lumber.

    Your right actually. What you see at about 10:00-11:00 mark is shock from the temp differences between the many places they passed them. They likely will lose plenty of fish needlessly and if I had done this at the fish market I worked, I would have been fired on the spot. lol

    Ксения Ковалевская in the tote, there's a lack of water so thy can handle the fish easily, with more water, they would move around much more causing them to possibly get hurt and those are expensive discus so they are trying to avoid that. In the tanks, there's pressure differences in the tank compared to the bag they came from. Hope that helps!
