My dad and I ran one of these for years.. they were dinosaurs.. but had plenty of power in a tractor. A neighbor of ours has a turbo 903, takes some bite out if the exhaust and smooths it out.

My workplace has one with an aftermarket turbo, the sound carries for miles

Iv got a cabover Kenny K123 with a VT 903 in it. They do sound nice I gotta admit.. the turbo does smooth it out just a little bit , but the screaming whistle is somethin else.. Mines got a turbo of of a N14 select Cummins and the whistle is loud, She will boost up to 19 psi on a cool crisp day. The stock turbo will only boost to around 12 psi I think it was.. they weren't known for their reliability, especially if over revved. They threw conrods.

I have a trucker buddy who calls that engine a 9-0-nothing. He is partial to the inline 6- 855 cid from that era.
