I put mine in the freezer first, it makes the plastic more brittle.

Dog food bags are great for this too. Put one bag inside another and then smash away. Should be done outside though, ferrite dust can cause siderosis over time (aka welder's disease). P.S. Hi Moose! Glad to see you're well.

Happy New Year, Moose! Good to see you again! Love that copper 🤤😂 Actually, I find building a fair pile of like stuff to be beneficial. Because then I can get it down to a rhythm. Some things I've gotten so good at though, I try not to build piles of. Like there's a particular aluminum can project I'm working on. I try not to let those build up now lol I'll likely make a youtube video, because I believe the melting community will benefit. As it saves a great deal of propane gas/fuel (potentially). I'm very close to having my shop clean enough for the video.

So where are you getting that many CRT TVs or monitors in 2022/23? Back in 2012-2015 they were everywhere. Now they're just plain gone here. Pro tip: if you really want to let off some steam, forget the hammer. Take each yoke and hold it over your head, then hurl it against the ground. Massively satisfying. Messy, yes, but when one pops completely apart and the ferrite's all busted up, you get a really good feeling. What's a few minutes of sweeping when you've had a massive cathartic release? Cheers, Moose.

Do you sell the ferrite or is it not worth it.

Okay, so that super brittle magnetic stuff. You called it ferrite. I didn't know what it was, and neither did the buyer at the yard I go to. He finally said that since it took a magnet to go ahead and throw it in with the steel. Is that the right answer, or does it belong somewhere else?

Moose how do you dispose of the glass tubes? I have twenty 19 inch CRTs to scrap out. thought about putting them in an old pillow case to contain the glass while I brake them just wondering how you do it thanks & happy new year!

My city trash collection will take them. If I have that many, I have to trickle them out a little at a time, two here, one big one there, etc. I don't recommend breaking them up, there are phosphors inside that are likely going to be aerosolized and they're not good for your lungs. If you don't have a means of disposal for the tubes, I recommend just leaving CRTs alone.
