@literofcretin....US is a different dynamic. The foundation of the country was racist/ wh1te supremacist from the first pillar so of course it will be hard ( this is a historical fact wheter people disagree or agree). But however American culture is a melting pot and its foundation is Anglo-Saxon, Afro-American and Native American. Which are the 3 pillars of American culture in its true essence. The mass immigration from Latin America, Middle East and Asia brought in alot new cultures that clearly is not always compatible with mainstream America. The whole Palestine vs Jews across the US is a perfect example of this.

Mass immigration is for the benefit of the corporations who now largely run this country, and the government has let them. The immigration that goes on today by and large does NOT help the country, or the European countries where it's happening. It's not racist to want an educated populace who will respect the laws and the rule of law. It's racist to want throngs of people to pour in, without the intention of having them ever learn English or integrate into the culture. That is racist. I'm so tired of duplicitous and hypocritical corporate culture.

Without social cohesion people are less likely to unify for any given cause. Studies, conducted by Amazon no less, found that unions were less likely to form in an ethnically diverse workforce. I imagine this applies on a much larger scale. Plenty of times throughout history there have been revolutions & uprisings where the underclasses were tired of being exploited by the political class, aristocracy and crown. It just so happens a divided population is much easier to rule, and an ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse population practically atomised. Being that the political theatre is bought and sold by corporate interests and donations, and there had been a rising resentment of the greed and destruction exacted by megacorps, I think you're spot on pointing the finger at them.

As a British kid in his first year at a university where 65% of students (and an even higher percentage of my course) are international, I can confirm that most of them group together by country and prefer to speak their own language (as is only natural). I'm pretty used to being one of the only white people in my class bc of where I live, but I think the self-segregation is next-level at university age, and presumably beyond. The implications on people's social life because of it are kinda insane to see firsthand; going out with friends is hard when all the Chinese/Indian/African kids stick together and have their own clubs/societies/dances/events, and the roughly 15% of the class that is white (nevermind native English speakers) don't really have the same connections. Ofc the language barrier is huge, and while most of the ppl I've spoken to can speak English, lots of them struggle and English is very rarely the first language you hear when walking around the halls because people stick in groups. One of my best friends at uni is Chinese and because she struggles with English, she asked me to talk to her on a Chinese app called WeChat because it can auto-translate Chinese->English, and she often just talks to me in Chinese. The difference between her shyness and how she acts talking to me irl and her talking to her Chinese friends (i.e. all her friends other than me lol) is huge. I don't blame her at all, and I'm trying to help her with speaking a bit more, but the impact something like that has on your social life is massive. It seems especially strange when I get emails about an "Indian society dance" or a "Pub crawl brought to you by the Bengali society", because as a white guy, nobody like me would even have the idea to behave even remotely the same way with any degree of "in-group preference", the optics would be terrible. But people who spread narratives about there being "one race, the human race" and borders being fake or whatever don't just ignore that, they are the main ones allowing it.

The Carribeans and Africans ( like Nigerians) where the ones who where social with everybody including wh1te people wheter they where from the UK or from other EU nations. Maybe its because Carribeans and Africans are more social and welcoming people ( at least for me they where the best people to hang with and always helpful). Wh1te students some what self segerated but more so based on English and non English. So the English would not per se socialize with German students or they with French. But in general people didn't self segerate on so called ''race'' more so by language and culture. A French speaking Ivorian would stil have good relation with a French from France so to say.

You are peddling a "great replacement" theory which only benefits the top 10% of German society that own 56% of the wealth in Germany. "No, the problem isn't that an increasing sum of wealth is being cultivated into the hands of a small sum of people while the poorest ethnic Germans continue to get poorer (If the rich keep getting richer, where is the poor people's money going?).. the problem is that brown people are pouring into the country after we bombed their native lands into oblivion!!!". I work as a delivery driver in a city that's more diverse and the cracks show. You can tell who's an immigrant/migrant when you simply say hello. They either won't say it back out of rudeness or can't understand someone was informally greeting them. Regardless of my political opinion, assimilation (although it was used as a bad thing in my history classes) is super important or it drowns out the country's cultural identity, hence the rise in bad race relations in recent years.

I’m not sure what metric you could use to show that race relations in America are “worse” now than they were in the 00s, 90s, 80s etc. To the extent that (white) people worry about the state of race relations more than in the past it’s simply because it’s being brought to their attention more so than in the past. Race relations have always been shit for those lower on the totem pole.

I saw a microcosm of this going to the Orthodox Church. The standard greeting is "Christ is Risen" and the counter-greeting is "Truly He is Risen". I knew about this dynamic for weeks before I actually decided to attend a service to check it out, but when I got there and it happened to me in person, I didn't respond. It was like this weird shock like I wasn't expecting it (even though I had the knowledge) and it was just a cultural reflex I hadn't developed. Proved to me that social behavior runs very deep.

This is my perspective as a frenchman: There's a difference between white immigrants and non-white immigrants. I occasionally see what I think is a frenchman and then I'm surprised to learn that they actually come from Croatia or something and they speak with an accent. I find that when the immigrant is white, they do not really harm the social cohesion because physically they could pass as french. but when it comes to other races like arab/black, this is not possible, they break the social cohesion because not only do they look so different, but they usually come from a radically different cultural/religious background. As they say: "birds of the same feather flock together". This is Human Nature 101.

I moved to England from Poland at the age of 11 (24 now) and I came to a conclusion that home is not where your bed is, it's where your family is and it's mostly where you came from. The only people I managed to see "integrate" to a new country were children 7 and under who grew up here. Very thankful for the opportunities England has given me (language and education) however I see immigrant families returning home in droves and I don't fault them one bit. Tony Blair sold this country in the late 00's to us gullible Europeans and I see this pattern beginning to manifest in other parts of the world. As for social cohesion, if you want to live in a community you MUST tie yourself down to a place in a country AKA plant your roots and moving all the time (in country or outside) is completely detrimental to this. The negatives of "hovering" without roots manifest in different ways, one of which is dating (with family as the goal). I get attention from women but I've never been on a date before and until now I had no idea why I don't have the motivation. This isn't home. I know I'll be moving back to Poland in a few years and instinctively my brain knows I don't want to uproot one of these girls, isolating her in a country far from her family. I am curious to know if anyone feels the same, immigrant or not. What you said about mass immigration not making sense is primarily why the youth is turning on the European Union. When population goes down, the houses become more affordable which would no doubt have a positive effect on the birth rates but that would mean a brief dip in production which the elites cannot stomach. For the record I don't believe there is an effort to replace Europeans, it is happening because the people in power are stupid/greedy. You can get into deeper topics like how homogeny impacts culture, compatible cultures etc. However in the end immigration doesn't destroy community, but it largely prevents it from being born in the first place. Thank you for the video Gerb.

These cultures have cooperated together on a number of things such as rag time and jazz which started largely as black American culture and developed with white American musicians to become what they are now which inspired many spinoff genre's all around the world, this is a mutual accomplishment of both black American culture and white American culture but they're still both distinct cultures, I wouldn't want to take away the ethno cultural identity of black Americans, though supposedly we should be denied ours, we cannot lay claim to our culture even though the things we have developed relatively recently are astonishing, we invented the automobile we developed electrical infrastructure we invented the suburb and yet we cannot call it our own. The US has way more social cohesion among the races because it is a New World country. “American” is not an ethnicity. Additionally, on the Western Frontier, whites/blacks/hispanics/asians helped create the country. I think that social cohesion was and still probably is less out West because of this (esp with recent immigration) - but because of this precedent new immigrants assimilate better here than they do in Europe. The US always had 10-20% of its population foreign born and by the 3rd generation the grandkids are 100% Americanized. I emigrated from the UK in 2017 and I’m already 100% Americanized, lol.

The united states has been almost 90% White for most of its history so no, they did not help create the country. The philisophical grounds for the us entirely originate from europe. The only reason "social cohesion" is more prominant in america is because the lie "we're all american" is more easily believed. Nobody who is white remains long term friends with most minorities they know if they move from one part of the country to another. It is merely a way of trying to survive in the political landscape. No american even does it conciously. They're just so demoralized that merely being called "racist" will lead to the most severe case of verbal self defense you've ever seen. The reason you're americanized is because the american way of thinking and socializing originates directly from britain. Americans only go out of their way to make friends with minorities when they have a negative association with their own race.

I live in a Lisbon suburb. In 10 years, my suburb went from being a nice place to live, where people that ended college could afford a rent, or even some years later down the road, buy a house, to a place where lots of portuguese shops in the downtown are closing, and foreign grocery shops, halal shops and mobile stores are opening everywhere, even though they barely have clients. Meanwhile houses have doubled its price, it's not possible to afford a rent (you're competing against 10 immigrants that occupy a one-bedroom cave - and a rent for a two-bedroom house costs 2x the minimum wage - or more if you want to be near the metro). I usually walk near the centre of the suburb, each day I see less natives. I also walk past the municipality council, where people come to get visas. Each day I see long queues there, 60 or 70 people. I have nothing against these people that are fighting for making their lives better. The issue is: some of them end up living on the streets (the homeless have grown a lot here) and others end up getting exploited. Most of them also don't make an effort to integrate in our culture and don't even speak our language. I don't know why is it so bad that I see no point in keeping getting more of these people...

An example of how sustained mass immigration reverses integration: in Britain, Pakistani Muslims ended up having close to the same birthrate as native Britons by the 1990s, but then their birthrates shot up again after Tony Blair turned up the levels of immigration massively. Basically what happens, and this has been mirrored with Turks and Moroccans in the Netherlands, is that if given the chance, the men from those communities who are born in the West will opt to bring over a wife from "the old country" because she'll be less westernised. As a result, each new generation born are in a sense always just the second generation, because their mother is usually foreign born. Funny story: I was born in Amsterdam and our neighbours were a family headed by a half-Dutch half-Moroccan man and a Moroccan-born wife. The mixed guys' father actually ended up getting remarried...to that woman's sister.

@angadgrewal9324 yeah idk. The obvious reason is because those countries are poorer relative to Germany or France for example. Places in western and northern Europe also have more social programs. People who immigrate want to take advantage of that so they move there. Also if you notice how each country has a majority minority population like Germany with turks, France with Algerians, and the UK with Hindus and pakis, it's because there were already small local enclaves of those people so when deciding where to move, they choose to move to countries with large populations of their local culture/ ethnicity. It's not all that hard to understand, but some people think it's because of some agenda. Nope just western morality taken to an extreme and opportunity on the side of the immigrants, often to the detrement of native populations.

In Texas, Hispanics are so normal that it's not even worth bringing up. This aligns with assimilation theory because in Texas history, this area has always been home for Hispanics and Whites. There was a lot of time for cultures to cross and a lot of conflict because of it, armed conflict even. I can't even go to a Mexican restaurant without my Mexican friends saying it's TexMex. And they're right. All the resources to feel at home are here for Hispanics, so even first generation immigrants aren't really discriminated against, although maybe they're more comfortable with Spanish than English sometimes. If I intended to stay in Texas, I would've definitely taken Spanish classes.

The real reason for immigration is that ever since the baby boomer generation, we've been below replacement. The widespread adoption of Social Security type systems among western countries coupled with below replacement reproduction means that there's not enough people paying into the system to keep it going. Therefore, they're shoring up the numbers with immigration. Western Europe is farther along than we are in America because they have more extensive welfare states. The problem is that too much immigration too fast doesn't give the people coming over enough time to assimilate into the majority population. What culture are people going to assimilate into when a city is 9% white? Another problem with mass migration is that the housing market will never collapse due to these people always needing a place to live. Therefore, less people are having children because less people can afford a home. The problem compounds itself. The majority of South American countries we're importing people from are also below replacement, and when the women get here, their reproduction rates are as poor as native born women. I don't care about politics left or right, the current system is unsustainable and everyone is kicking the can down the road by not addressing the welfare state and immigration.

Nationalism dirives from the word "nation" which means "of a certain people". This is why figures throughout history such as Napoleon refer to the "jewish nation" even though there was no jewish country at this point in time. Each "nation" has their own individual behaviors and quirks. Its only in recent times that politicians have cleverly tried to make country and nation mean the same thing. Nationalism has ALWAYS been about a pride in your own people, NOT pride in a country.

What Gerby does not mention about four year colleges/graduate school in America (and the university system in Canada), is how international students are highly favoured over local students because of “higher profits” to be earned serving international students by the schooling industry. One of my family friends (he is a millennial born in 1987) attended graduate school for a masters degree in physics back in 2011. Despite being a local of Georgia, USA; all his classes were at least 95%+ international students. So he had a terrible social life in college and made very little to no connections as these international students (mostly from India and China) could not relate to him in any way.
