@@MANJYOMETHUNDER111The asari should have know about it because of their archive. The salarians knew about the leviathan of dis aka a Reaper which appeared long before the geth attack. Hell, they even saw Saren as a cyborg but didn't react AND acknowledged that the attack on the Citadel was made by a Reaper (as we saw in the Citadel dlc) So yeah, they knew Shepard was right but refused to accept it. Maybe out of fear, pride or something else but in the end, they knew the truth

@Kanerudo put yourself in the shoes of a galactic counsellor. Nothing you've just stated is proof of anything beyond there being an isolated few ghost stories and random artifacts. Very easy to believe it was Prothean tech. The games tell you the council is useless, but doesn't do much to validate your claims as Shepard. Their uselessness is exaggerated for the meme.

I think it might b due to him being a turian who are the most militaristic species in the galaxy, he winds up getting his head outta his ass for once when a galactic war starts and the Reapers r proven real while he may not apologize for his whole snide attitude to Shepard be4, I'm pretty sure Shepard wants the turian fleet which is the largest military in the galaxy to help retaking Earth instead, Sparatus simply saying "sorry I was an asshole" wont get the Reapers off Earth and the asari...well ME3 shows how useless and full of themselves they r in a full scale war. I always had this ironic thought about ME3’s council: The Turian councilor was always the most annoying one in the past games, passive-aggressive to the point of being aggressively passive-aggressive. Yet, when the Reapers finally show up, he’s the first to offer assistance to the humans, even though Palaven is about as bad off as Earth. Meanwhile, the Salarian and Asari, who haven’t even been attacked yet, give lip service about having to secure their own borders before even thinking about helping the others. Thus, Ironically, this makes the imperialistic, aggressive Turians the ones working hardest for galactic cooperation and teamwork, traditionally the role of the Asari. Meanwhile, the Salarians actively attempt to stop the genophage cure, only joining Shepard’s coalition after he helps save their Councilor. The Asari are too proud to give Shepard critical information about the Catalyst because it would reveal their secret Prothean beacon; only when their homeworld is under attack and they risk losing the beacon anyways do they tell Shepard. Even then, they’re cryptic and obscure as hell, almost downplaying the potential value of their information. If either the Salarians or, especially, the Asari joined the turian and humans right away, the Reapers could have been defeated much earlier and to less cost. The Asari refusing to share potentially war-saving information doomed trillions to death, as well as the fall of their own homeworld; the time wasted also allowed Cerberus to find and capture the beacon first, further helping out the Reapers, as well as keep the Crucible from being completed until almost the last moment.

No matter what anyone says, the fact that Cerberus knew where Shepard would be (RE: the beacon on Thessia) and beat her there in the first place will never make sense. No one except the asari councilor and a select few of the Normandy crew (and High Command, obviously) even knew about the beacon's potential. Even if you could claim Cerberus agents were embedded in Asari High Command or had agents who knew members of High Command, there was no reason to wait for Shepard to show up to activate the beacon. They've been using the beacon for centuries to make sure they keep their edge, so they clearly knew how to operate it and obtain the information. You could make the claim that whoever tipped off Cerberus about it didn't know how to work it, and thus couldn't have told this mystical agent anything other than that it existed, thus Shepard HAD to show up to unlock it, but I just don't buy that. This all boils down to Kai Leng being a terrible and poorly written antagonist, I guess. All of his scenes require the plot and previous character development for Shepard and her companions to twist themselves into pretzels to make sense. Ugh, not where I meant for this comment to go, but whatever. The point is, I don't feel bad about Thessia. They should have jumped sooner, but instead they tried to maintain their supremacy by consolidating their power instead of aiding their allies, and ultimately doomed their homeworld because they were too proud, as you said. It is ironic that Sparatus spends the first two games being an ass, but ultimately sees that working together is the only way they all get what they want in the end: to survive and defeat a great enemy. Tevos is great at lip service and then not doing anything, and Valern feels like a yes-man to Tevos, tbh. I like him more than Tevos, but it really does feel like he just defers to whatever Tevos says.

@@witchskee In hindsight, it all kinda makes sense doesn’t it? The Turian councilor is always brutally blunt and skeptical, to the point of being alarmist. So, when the Reapers finally show up, his personality allows to him quickly get over his pride and shame and work with Shepard and the Alliance to beat the existential threat. On the other hand, the Asari is always hemming and hawing and voicing mild objections without ever taking a side. Thus, the fatal indecision and delay on sharing the Prothean beacon can be seen as more of that patient waiting/excessive caution, almost like they treated the Reapers as another threat that could be negotiated with lol The Salarian is there, ig

They would have to fight off a battered united galaxy, but it is still a united galaxy nonetheless. Salarians might be the smartest species in the galaxy, but they don't have the strength of the Krogan, the strategical thinking of a Turian, the biotic potential of an Asari, the tech savviness of the Quarians and Geth, and the charisma of Commander Shepard. Hell, with the genophage gone, the Krogan alone could easily bring the Salarians to heel. It's not like the Salarians are physically strong, except Mordin. You even see how the Turian councilor was only one asking about the weapon and asking if it would work, but did not denied aid he just did not bother with the other Councilors. As much as I love the series, the council actually does get too much flak. Shepard was _way_ to quick to jump to the conclusion that the Reapers were real on ME1, and then in ME3 (s)he expects the council to just abandon their own people to help Earth. They aren't even being typical selfish politicians, they're just being realistic.

Don´t forget: The Council stands for the whole Galaxy! One example: Switzerland is under attack and one Guy goes to Putin / Trump and Merkel and say: Hey, we are at War, give us all of your Military or we will die!" What do you think will they do? Not much, like the Council in Mass Effect

Actually no, there are actually real life examples that disprove you. Take the US in WW2 for example. Even though they were under direct attack by the Japanese they didn't stop aiding and saving other theaters like in Europe. A comparison to how it is in the game would be if the US would have told the other allies they will only help Europe once they defeated the Japanese and withheld support to the allies until they do so. That is basically what the council is doing in Mass Effect 3.

@@Comintern1919 I don't think we can really compare Us vs Japan and the fighitng in europe to the reapers attacking everyone. US were fighting Japan in a mostly naval war, far from home, with alot of island fighting during this. Japans 'Direct attack' were bombing a navalbase in hawaii. The common american on the mainland never saw any fighitng. So they could spare the troops and resources to aid both Russia and the western forces. If the Japanese forces had laid siege to New York. Do you think they would be willing to send most of their armed forces across the Atlantic to reclaim france? Or Poland? Or lets say they have already conquored California and were already marching across the US continent. They would scramble their own forces to try and stop and push back the enemy on their land. The nazi regime and japanese empire were no where near as big a threat to civilization as a whole as Reapers. The council are still a bunch of pricks. Focusing on their own people first in a scenario where everyone is under attack. They are being asked to sacrifice their own people in an attempt to save one planet. Some people In US *During* WW2 Wanted America to stay out of it and follow a policy of isolationism. Quote: (Related to the overall war effort, the AFC also opposed President Franklin Roosevelt’s Lend-Lease plan to send U.S. war materials to Britain, France, China, and the Soviet Union. “The doctrine that we must enter the wars of Europe in order to defend America will be fatal to our nation if we follow it,” said Lindbergh at the time.) Source: www.thoughtco.com/the-evolution-of-american-isolationism-4123832 In our world history, these people were not in power. But Imagine if they were... That would be the council in this video. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but when shit hits the fan, fear takes hold and it becomes every man for himself. Even if it goes against what is logical.
