Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you know Doug DeMruo, you probably know of the infamous Maserati Ghibli Review he made. In this video, I share my take on Doug's review as an owner of a 2017 Maserati Ghibli S Q4 and go over some of the added features and points of agreement / disagreement.

You really wanna buy it as your first car? It' a Maserati. I think even this guy will agree with me here, you don't wanna own a luxury car as your first car. Most new drivers have at least a single accident with their first cars and Maserati is not a car that is cheap to fix to say the least. They are also TERRIBLE in reliability.

@@Tomoyo0827 Most people overlook this. Can you get a Maserati for about 30k? Yes you can, but many of them often have issues that come out of nowhere quick and cost you 10-15k to fix them. Something like that happened to a friend of mine.

And for those bashing it for reliability, while this is my first - I purchased mine on the recommendation of a friend that’s had 3 Maserati’s and not an issue with any of them. I had a BMW (purchased new) that gave me trouble from month one and never stopped - their “explanation” to me, you’re getting cutting edge tech, expect problems….yeah right. First Doug Demuro should not comment on a car unless he knows what he is talking about. DOUG kept harping on the Chrysler switch. The window switch 2518200110 was a part of Daimler/Chrysler from (1998-2007) $65- $144 dollars. The switch is in the Mercedes ML350, ML450, ML550 for example and also in the Mercedes-Benz ML320, ML63, AMG and also again, still used in today’s Chrysler/fiat cars. So, the Maserati Window Switch is the same as the Mercedes Benz part that was passed on to Chrysler/Fiat cars. So do you call Mercedes a Chrysler..... Doug?

40k miles is honestly a pretty good history. I'd recommend asking them how often it's been serviced, any issues it may have had over their ownership, did they ever have to get the brakes done, and how recently it's been serviced. Brakes are one of the more expensive things you'll have to do with these cars, but I've still yet to need it. In 2017 models, I'd also want to check on the upkeep of the interior and especially certain trim pieces that tend to peel (around the wheel & around the gear lever). I've thankfully had no real issues with mine thus far and it's been quite reliable. Hope you have the same luck, these are really fun cars!

    @CarsLifeYT

    9 ай бұрын

Depends. Insurance is more expensive than other cars (I’m probably paying about ~$3.6k/year for that, that’s only about $2k less than my McLaren). Gas is more expensive because you should always use at least 93 octane or better. So that could be an additional $15-20 for a full tank. Maintenance isn’t bad, mine’s been very reliable for over 2 years. I generally pay about $600 for the yearly service/oil change. The biggest expense has been the 40k mile service which was about $4k (got all my tires changed, spark plugs, filters, etc). They can definitely last 300ish miles on a full tank. They’re very good on highway with mileage so long as you’re riding in like 6-8th gear (can get up to 24mpg, even in sport). Make sure you look into the service history and things like that, try to get something that’s at the shop in pretty normal intervals. Make sure the brake life is good, don’t have to be changed soon, all that. Get a 3rd party PPI if you want to for some peace of mind (don’t go through the dealerships PPI).

The Infiniti M35X is pretty reliable, the V6 engine sounds rather muscular, it's a firmer and sportier ride than a Lexus, and overall a ride just as comfortable if not more comfortable than the 2004 Lexus RX330 I had before. Other things, depending on what it is I just take it to an exotics repair place as my family is friendly with the guy that owns it so I usually get a good deal on any work there. 20k is a great deal, though and 45k miles is plenty broken in for a decent history. Look, I hated the inside of the Maserati (which is most what Doug hates) but honestly... You have to drive this car knowing you either want to buy it or have bought it. There's something about it that makes you feel amazing. I've driven Mercedes and BMW, they don't even come close. Also, can we acknowledge that the Ghibli was an early adopter for many things people now have in their cars and find "normal"? 1. Infotainment built into the dashboard and not an iPad sticking out from the top 2. Managing the car almost completely through the infotainment, which is what almost every luxury car does nowadays. 3. Panoramic roof - hype of all hypes The car gets such a bad rep, but it honestly doesn't deserve it. Maybe from a maintenance standpoint. But then again, the engines are completely different from what BMW, Audi and Mercedes deliver as a "standard". Hell, even the Ghibli Diesel is a V6...

Oh, my God, that smell inside!), I can say the biggest minus while in the car is that for some reason the interior creaks and crackles on uneven roads. perhaps it's still a matter of a small run-in of a new car, only 4200 km. sounds appear and disappear. so far, something is cracking in the area of the front passenger seat and the driver's seat is creaking. maybe someone also had such a problem ?

I recently rented one for 2 weeks, its a great car, its a pentestar V6 with better heads, turbo, making decent power. I think it was a 2023 the one i drove? The standard features are all there, uconnect 5, the turn signal is still an issue, the shift lever has been fixed, exhaust sounds good, gets worse mileage than my hellcat, though 😂 The point is NOW adays its $100k+ car...... for what is essentially an upbadged chrysler 300 which is an upbadged dodge charger, for under the $100k price range you literally get the exact same luxury and same drive from a chrysler 300 C and you get the 6.4 Hemi. Now the good news is these tank in value, im talking ive seen 50% depreciation within 3 years with low miles. That’s really your biggest annual expense if everything else is smooth. If you need brakes done, that’s where it gets pricey. I’ve heard around $4k for that. Maserati became irrelevant when Alfa Romeo decided to re-launch in North America. 1. Maserati was supposed to be the flagship FCA brand, but they used the cheap Chrysler switch gear and a re-skinned version of Uconnect. Alfa Romeo developed all of their own buttons and switches. Nothing inside of an Alfa Romeo is found in other FCA vehicles, and Alfa Romeo undercuts Maserati's price by half. 2. Alfa Romeo interiors use better materials and all around look more "Italian" than Maserati. The Ghibli interior honestly isn't that far off from a Dodge Charger. 3. The Ghibli V6 is based on the Chrysler Pentastar. Even the engine is ripped from the parts bin. Alfa Romeo launched with 2 brand new engines developed exclusively for themselves. The 4 cylinder is a full ground-up new creation, and the V6 is derived from the Ferrari F154 V8. (Yes I know Maserati uses the same V8 in the trofeo trims. Nobody buys those). 4. Maseratis are slow relative to what the horsepower figures suggest. A Ghibli Trofeo has 580 hp and would lose a race to a BMW M340i despite having 200hp less. A Stelvio Quadrifoglio would beat both cars, despite being a much heavier SUV. 5. Maserati has been around for a very long time and everybody knows what they are. People still look at them because it is a familiar vehicle that they associate with the upper class. But a $20,000 Alfa Romeo Giulia will catch 10 times as many eyes because nobody knows what it is. 6. Maserati just launched the MC20 as a $250,000 super car. They were able to allocate enough resources to develop their own engine for that car, but they still couldn't make their own switches and buttons. The stalks, window switches, Volume knob, mirror control, trunk release buttton, and the entire steering wheel are all ripped from Alfa Romeo.

Well, when you are consistanly reviewing all manners of cars, vs being an owner and learning to deal with it, there's a difference. Doug's major point was that the car's price tag simply does not equate. At that price point, if I wanted something more on the side of luxury I’d probably opt for a used Bentley, Aston Martin, or something from Mercedes. I think the real selling point for these cars is the exhaust note & the fun factor. While that’s nowhere near worth $80-100k, it’s definitely a great value around the $35-40k mark.

@@CarsLifeYT wanted to add, about the turn signal stalk, you're definitely not resting your hands the way "you are supposed to". Looks like the Maserati has more forgiving shift paddles, and thus it's OK to rest your fingers on them where you can easily move to hit the stalk. So you have no problem. Other cars may not be so forgiving, and resting your fingers the way you are is a bad idea... That's why Doug is gripping his fingers around the wheel, and then opening them to move to the stalk. When done with that move, the paddles get in the way and it'll get really annoying. Basically what I'm saying, you are able to safely rest your fingers on the paddles while steering the car. But if your Driver's Ed. teacher saw you doing that, he would have a real problem. Doug shouldn't have just rented the car for review, rentals are usually not kept in great condition. The backup camera in the rental was likely just faulty, and Doug didn't have an owner showing him various features and quirks like he usually does. Probably because he did research and knew this was going to be a harsh review. Naturally Doug didn't want a real owner standing there. It would have been very awkward

I have a 2016 Gran Turismo, when I take it in for its annual service the dealership gives me a Ghibli as a loaner. It is not as bad as people make them out to sound. I really do not care if the interior shares some Chrysler parts, it's not like the sticky buttons FIAT and VW supplied Ferrari are so great. The Ghibli drives well. The one issue I have is the big panel gap, that is unacceptable of what is suppose to be a luxury sedan. Most of the people complaining about the Ghibli are one of two stereotypes (1) Some auto reviewer on the internet who only drives the car for maybe half an hour at the most and knows nothing about the brand or (2) Some jealous poor that could not afford even a sub 25,000 dollar 2014 base model Ghibli.

Price has gone up. A q4 Morano with couple of options ( 21 inch tires , leather ) Is now … MSRP at 98k !! and good luck negotiating with all the chip shortages. I rather lease then to buy. they are pricy. I would not buy a used Masarati as they are super expensive to both maintain and repair.

Maintenance is honestly okay, not very pricey. Certain repairs depending on what it is, could potentially run a few thousand (brakes). Overall, the most you'll pay yearly for a reliable one will be the $600 for an oil change and the cost of insurance, which is decently expensive. Apparently Maserati Ghibli's are one of the most expensive cars to insure. Mine has been very reliable for almost 2 years and 14k miles so far. Bought it at around 22k miles and it's now sitting a bit over 36k. The key is finding one that will be as reliable to you. There's certainly lemons out there, but one with decent mileage and a service history should tell a pretty good story.

BMW`s are so common from where I come from, that it is irrelevant if it`s the lowest price range or the highest. Most of them look very much alike, not to mention everybody has them. From regular lowlifes to CEOs. So if you want to stand out of the crowd, don`t get one. Same goes for Porsche, Mercedes or Audi.

Perhaps a first generation was not a complete variant. And things that are still there like a gap between door panels, it shows a lot.. This car has to be about quality, looks and power.. And all details that Doug mentioned are truly unacceptable. Yes you can live with that but there is as way of respect of the manufacturer and you feel fooled for your money in this case.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll say it again anyway. Just this past Christmas, I saw exactly two Ghibli's near my home, and both were broken down. One was white like this, probably an S, and it was sitting on the side of the road with it hazards on. Now maybe he/she was just being careful and and needed to pull over to do something, like make phone call. But I came back that way almost two hours later and it was still there, with the hazards on. I know...long phone call. Probably three days later I saw another about 2 miles from that spot broken down in the middle of the road with it's hazards on. It was a dark SQ4, and a couple of "Imma buy this" types were walking around it as it sat there in the middle turn lane looking like they had no clue what was wrong (typical of the type). A old guy in a beat pickup truck was also there looking at it with them like he might have clue. He looked like they kinda guy who would want to spray something in a carburetor or something to "Get 'er going!", but these two baggy pants dolts would know even less, so they were screwed. But hey, maybe both these cars just ran out of gas...or blinker fluid. Yeah, that's the ticket. Anyway, what I'm saying is no matter how good a car sounds and performs when it's running properly, doesn't mean squat if that's not a reliable and dependable occurrence, and you don't have the funds, time, or knowhow to fix it yourself...frequently. By comparison, I would take my chances with a old, high mileage BMW M5 V10 with a loud rattle, over an even more problematic and more expensive to fix Maserati Ghibli with only 25k miles, and that's saying something, becuase I would never buy a money-pit BMW in the first place. There's a reason this car with such low sales in the United States has somehow so many available used with low miles for sale in a car market that has dried up recently. As I type this, Carvana alone has 46 Ghiblis for sale, while there are only 36 Porsche Cayenne's. Considering the Cayenne's outsold the Ghibli in it's lifetime by a factor of easily 50:1, ya'd think just becuase of the sheer volume of them out there, there'd be more for sale than the low new sales volume Ghibli. Ya know why there isn't, becuase people aren't dumping the Porches, and they are desirable, but they are clearly dumping their Ghibli's. I know, probably just too much of a great car for these losers. At this rate, I'm pretty sure eventually the only cars you'll be able to find after all the high mileage Land Rovers are sold for use as garden planters, with be Maserati's and Chrysler Sebrings. There's a reason Maserati started slashing prices by thousands 2 years ago (well before the pandemic), and there's a reason the brand ranked 40th out 40 in reliability. www.osv.ltd.uk/maserati-reliability/ Anyway, for every negative comment - no matter how factual - there will always be a fan of any particular brand trying to blow smoke up someone else's butt about how "they don't know what they're talking about, it's a great car!" (becuase they bought one), and take it personally when someone talks negative about it, like it's their child, and they want more people in their chic little club. Tesla owners are biggest brand zealots, (right after Apple). I'm sure the two cars I saw that week had owners leaving that club, or at least seriously considering it, and were venting anal smoke all the while. FYI: My brother (a Mopar or die fan) has a 1982 Plymouth Horizon and he swears by it's bullet proof reliability. He says it has over 300k miles on it (we really don't know for sure becuase the odometer broke at 110k miles.) What he won't say is he rebuilt the motor 3 times, none of the electrics or instrumentation works, the headlights sometimes will come on, there's no heat or A/c, and he has to drive it by pulling on a wire hooked to the carburetor via a hole through the dash, and with vice grips clamped on to the steering column for a steering wheel. Yup, they just don't build them like that anymore. Murica!

Nice post. I’m certainly not one of those people that will play favorites or be bias towards any brand. I’ll point out issues as I see them and always be transparent about costs of ownership. I actually did a cons video where I go over some pain points of my Ghibli and will give a complete cost breakdown for the entire year I’ve had it soon. That being said, I’ve had the car for a little over a year now and so far so good. No maintenance costs beyond an oil / filter change that was about $600 due to a parts shortage. Thankfully, I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford maintenance on cars like this so it’s not an issue for me personally but I do want to make sure everyone is aware of those costs as well.

While on the other hand, my McLaren has a lot of unique parts but they’re also not owned by anyone. Doug is just looking for something to criticize and with a base MSRP close to 100k, I get it 🤷‍♂️
