So happy to find this review. Just bought a 2015 Ghibli Diesel with 91000 miles & still feels solid, no rattles, squeaks or creeks - great power and handling and It is just a joy to drive. These are some serious bang for buck cars now too prices for still nice ones can be sourced for £15K !

The Ghibli has a place in my heart, back in early 2019 my mum was looking at buying a car and the local garage had a 2014 IS 300h premier and a 3.0d Ghibli (both in a metallic gold paint with beige leather interiors). Both were circa 30k miles and around £15k (pre 2020). She ended up going for the IS but I smile when I see one of these Ghibli's.

I had an IS for almost a decade. Brilliant car. Changed it for this Ghibli in April. That is an upgrade I can tell you. Lexus was better quality and comfort, but Ghibli’s joy comes from absolutely precise handling. The best car for driving experience.

@@kautra12 Hi mate. Driven 16k kms so far including a roadtrip to one of the most amazing legendary roads NC500, which was 2.5k itself. My servicing is being done by a registered member of British drifting championschip, who has real passion for cars. He is my good friend, too. I would not recommend Maserati dealer garage in UK. They stamp, charge, but for example never touched my fuel filter. I had to replace front P Zeros, which are 20” on my Ghibli and cost me £300. Had replaced all 4 Brembos pads, which was about £350 all round including the genuine Maserati pads. Had to replace coolant expansion tank - new genuine part £60, job done for £25. Had to replace burst turbo air pipe - new genuine part cost £85, I had combined it with break fluid replacement, Castrol liter £16, job cost £100. Put new locking nuts - part cost £25. Service cost was oil (8.5l), oil filter, fuel filter, BMC lifetime performance washable sport air filter - all including parts and labour £500. Atm about the same costs as Lexus IS for general repairs. Tyres used to be cheaper though, but IS was on 17” Continentals. Ghibli’s PZeros are 20”.

I have a Ghibli S. It is stunning. It's got the V6 Ferrari engine putting out 410 bhp. A breeze to drive fast and beautiful.

Great video Calvin! Cool car! I can't believe these are £15k with that mileage!! I remember pre 2020 looking at a 2014 model and it had 35k miles on it and it was just over £15k. Just shows you how crazy the market is...

The diesels have a sound booster under the car by the exhaust which generates that v8 sound

It’s amazing how little power they got out of a 3.0 v6 twin turbo diesel and such poor mpg too.

@@yashmann As a former owner of three BMW:s. Its such an overrated brand. Engine problems on all of them. One of them terminal - had to replace it on my own expense since it was eleven days passed the warranty.

BMW M57/N57 is miles better anyday. Probably way more reliable & tuneable too.

The v8 version sound mean too 👌🏽 sick video

I keep looking at the Maserati Granturismo, it looks amazing, refined and good performance. I am just terrified of buying one as spare parts are scary expensive, even if the servicing and running costs seem quite reasonable.

I owned one for a while. The attention you get completely outweighed the car itself. Gorgeous to look at. My major gripe was the infotainment which was robbed from Chrysler and quite clunky. Drinks holder was also very small. If I was to go for one again It would be a petrol 2018 + model

When you get the poltrona frau interior pack the build quality is really nice with bentley level leather

Frameless windows… agreed I love them until winter where like with my TT the windows freeze and then door won’t close as glass won’t drop 😡

it is clear that the Maserati looks and is a better driving pleasure than the Audi. Maserati is on another level. Audi can be compared with VW, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Opel, etc.

What about parts and servicing? Looks like euro car parts doesnt have a lot of parts for these. With the germans you can get aftermarket parts from any motor factor. Simple things like filters and brakes.

As a car dealer myself we have had a few in stock over the last few years. Personally I think they look fantastic and are a lot of car for the money, but performance wise I find them lacking. With that being said as a motorway cruiser they are fantastic, smooth and quiet.

Ghibli is a kong of the motorway. I love when I meet an enthusiast in their Porsche, Jaguar or Aston Martin on german roads. The torque of this Ghibli between 150-220km/h an hour is brutal.

Hopefully the fuel doesn’t cool the pump or it’s screwed

The engine in this car is from Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles so they probably had a hand in some of the design, hence the american feel to it. I can see what you say by that, I thought with it being Italian it would be a bit more luxury. How would you say it compares to the Jaguar XJ with the 3.0 V6?

Drove one of these a few years ago was very disappointed with it

I’ve had several Audi V6 diesels. The 2.5 was disastrous(camshaft problems), just as the 3.0 (timing chain tensioners etc…). The A630HP engine from VM Motori is powerfull a low rpm’s, uses 1 liter diesel at 14/15 km at average (Audi’s 1:10/12), and uses zero oil (yes Audi VAG, it ís possible!) The Audi Multitronic an S(-tep)tronic, it is all garbage. It wasn’t a matter of if, but when they would fail, and fail expensively. Just check the online forums. I drive a Maserati Ghibli diesel for many years now, and up till now (110k miles) it has been flawless. The ZF8HP from Friedrichshaven can handle 700+Nm, has been proven bulletproof. So please, the Audi is only on another level in garage bills….. Is it all sunshine in the Ghibli? No it is not; for instance the gear change lever is rather clumsy (later versions form ‘17 are better), and the sunroof gives to much wind noise for such an exclusive brand. But it handles great (50/50 weight ratio)! The Audi suffers from massive understeer because of the heavy engine over the front axle. On the other hand: you want a impeccable steering 4 door saloon? Buy the Alfa Giulia QV….

Got a manual A8 D2 with the 2.5 V6. Almost 600.000km. Who cares about the camshafts when they are due every 250.000km. Drive that amount first

@@adamv.3448 I did buy an Audi a4 avant 2.5 diesel, new. Ran it to 260.000, no camshaft issue. That was because it did not follow the scheduled maintenance (changed oil every 20.000k plus used better oil). The ones that did follow the prescribed schedule all had camshaft issues, some already at 50.000 km’s. And that’s expensive, but you already know that. And you were smart to buy a manual gearbox; the automatic gearboxes are very unreliable, and (also) expensive to repair.

Ghibli Diesel my dream motor. I'd still keep the Golf for trips down south and annoy the neighbours by sticking my Blue Badge on the dash in the Maserati 🤣

Remember seeing one in London when they were new. Women walking past thought he was some super rich dude driving it.

I can’t be bothered to do more research, but Alfa Romeo were aligned with Maserati. Probably using the same dashboard, engine block and safety cells, as those are the 3 big cost items in car building. Maybe the idea was that Alfa Romeos felt like Maserati, but your excellent video (as always) suggests it went the other way 😂

Really want to like these but the styling seems in my eyes to be dating badly. The Alfa Romeo seems a much better looking car despite being the "lower" brand, which doesn't help.

I also own Ghibli Diesel, but isn't it a single turbo?

Ghilbi .....haha sounds like the inside of a chicken. That car originally came from Graypaul Maserati dealer in Edinburgh.

And the soundbox only works when you put it in Sport, and yes, it has a camera at the back when you put it in reverse…

Lot of varying opinions here on this car, are they good or not. I always thought they were, but never owned one. I'm swaying between this maserati, a 530d ( which i know are good ) or a jag xf 3.0 v6. What's your thoughts?

530d is a brilliant solid car, what age of XF? I have an XJ and was looking at the XF's the Mk1 facelifts seem to be better built than the Mk2 that came out circa 2015. People on the forums seem to complain more about the MK2. Ps the XJ 3.0d is fabulous!

@@CarsofGlasgow would probably be around 2015 / 16 for the xf. I've read even more on maserati now which has put me off, seems the 2014 and 2015 models were riddled with problems. Got to say though, I keep coming back to the 530d, it seems better all round, interior wise and exterior and most importantly....engine wise

@@Marvindorfler1 Honestly the F10 5 series is a great car! My mum had one back in 2014 until 2018 and it was very comfortable and well built

I honestly don't see the point in these unless you get the petrol. The petrol sounds like an F-Type V6 (god tier) but the diesel is just a worse BMW 535d. It's cheaper inside, doesn't really look any better imo and is a V6 diesel. It's like a Chrysler 300C, the only reason to pick it is if you want to stand out a bit. I mean you could get a Jaguar XJ Portfolio instead for similar money and that's on a completely different solar system inside.

Calvin has taken over from Jeremy Clarkson.

I bet with a remap with the twin turbos that would gain a lot of extra power.

Absolutely nowhere near as quick as a 335d xdrive

Awesome car the road presence of these is undeniable

I had a choice five weeks ago, a Ghibli Diesel 14 reg with 50k miles or a 17 reg Jag XJ premium Lux Diesel with 70k. Both £18,000. The Jag came with a 5 year premium warranty for £900 or a 1 year warranty for the Maz for £450. So glad I went for the Jag. Returns 55-60 to the gallon, virtual cockpit, heated steering and park assist. Remote climate and start. I believe it shifts a bit quicker than the Ghibli.

Was in the same situation few months back when buying my next car. Drove both the XJ R Sport, and the Ghibli Diesel, and the XJ blows the Ghibli in every conceivable way. You can easily feel the shitty fiat/chrysler switches on the Maserati, and that infotainment system on that Maserati is just awful. Its also super cramped in the back for such a long and wide car. Also those maserati seats are just nice to look at, but are quite uncomfortable.

As a former BMW owner i’m sure your engine has been through at least two mayor repairs since then.

Just an observation - '1' former owner means it's had 2 owners in total. If it was a 1-owner car it would say '0 former owners' :)

Wrong. My 2013 Focus ST has one previous owner. V5 will state in this case "nO. of Former Keepers 1 1. Declared New At First Registration" I saw your comment and then looked at my car's V5 to double check.

Is 24mpg fairly good for a Diesel?? You keep buying cars that are cheap for what they are but for the general public that don’t have connections to get things done cost it gets expensive

Yep dogshit, my 330d runs an average of a shade under 40mpg ‘combined’….and it has over 300bhp I like the Maserati in a similar way I like some Alfa’s, beautiful to look at but the close ups ain’t so perfect .

To add, there must be something wrong with it to be that bad…maybe dodgy thermostat is making run at the wrong temp….and burn more fuel ?🤷🏼‍♂️ it surely should be better than that

24 mpg for a diesel is disgraceful 🤣 R32s - car that drinks can get better MPG.

good looking posh car but couldnt afford to run it 🤣but love the audi a3 1.6 great all round family car ,done a fantastic job on it so deserves a loving home ,the type ive car id need to replace my 2005 2.0 sri turbo mk5 that had from new with still only 78632 miles on it just hard for me to part with it part of family 🤣😂😂 me fingers are crossed but who ever wins hopefully it goes to a good home and massive smile for someone 😀👍

These are single turbo diesels. The petrols are twin turbo. I had a diesel was best sounding diesel I’ve had it would fool anyone!

I considered one of these but the engine scares me….I’d jump on board to read it was installed with a merc or beemer 3.0 6 pot engine (gearbox will be fine but engine 🤷🏼‍♂️)

I mention in the post above. I have a 17 plate XJ returns 45-50 about town and 60 on the motorway, especially in cruise. It performs better than some EV’s. Only 8-10p a gallon more. Live in the NE, so not really a bother.

This is no Ghibli. The real thing is a stunning 70s coupe of classic lines and sexy proportions. Maserati lost its mojo in the 80s. Not sure it’s much better now.

335d is best deisel engine ever 290 bhp 580 nm and good mpg and that's the e60 the f30 running 313 bhp

For the first time ever, and I have clicked like on ALL of your videos, we have a minor disagreement. Stellantis didn’t take over until Jan 21, and the American thing is a red herring unless they were designing them to appeal to Americans, which is a slim possibility. You still get the like, but it’s just Italian build quality 😂
