    @@johngoogleuser3764 Lotus has had the potential since ever - one of the few brands that actually could do it (I'm thinking about the enormous support Lotus has in terms of tuning parts only second to Porsche) but they need to materialise it...A Cayman / Boxster is a packaging masterpiece and I reckon until someone else comes up with another flat 6 (Toyota / Subaru have a 4 but they are suitable companies to compete with Porsche) something highly unlikely then that is it...Porsche has just decided to fit the 4litre NA flat six into the new gen 992.2 and that is for a very good reason: nobody will be able to compete / match them: a wonderful USP

    I think many supercar buyers are missing out. Here is a supercar designed to be genuinely usable and also deliver a supercar driving experience on public roads. The doors go up, as they say. It looks like a supercar and the design is spot on. It's relatively comfortable and spacious on the inside, while not being too wide on the outside. It's driver focussed, and performance without hybridization does not fall short. It drives and performs as one would expect of a modern supercar while offering compliance on poor tarmac. And not only do the doors go up like on a McLaren and Lamborghini V12, but it has a carbon tub like a McLaren. As far as the sound, the historical fact is that there isn't a historically consistent Maserati sound. Sure, it doesn't sound like a naturally-aspirated V8, nor a turbocharged V8, because...it's a turbocharged V6. Nobody would be complaining if this were the new McLaren engine. And nobody would be saying this isn't Maserati-like if they remembered Maserati's biturbo era. Maserati biturbos were the first production cars to feature engines with twin turbos. Moreover, the dominance of induction and boost isn't criticized when it's in a Bugatti but rather lauded. Price-wise, it undercuts rivals from McLaren and Ferrari. Performance-wise, it competes with McLaren's new Artura V6 without the hybridization. And remember it was introduced back in 2020, way ahead of its rivals. Unfortunately, it was introduced during Covid, and was largely ignored and forgotten about. It was also introduced when its rivals were still running out their turbocharged V8s. Rather than this being the outfield choice, I strongly argue that the MC20 makes more sense than the Artura, and no supercar depreciates faster than a McLaren. Moreover, while I accept that journalistic praise isn't everything, I note that all journalists from the established automotive media have lauded the MC20. Criticism and dismissal have come from some so-called social media influencers. And I say that criticizing the sound while driving to get a coffee shouldn't be taken seriously. Nor should dismissing it simply because it's a Maserati or because of presumed depreciation be taken seriously, especially from those who haven't driven one, and those who don't apply the same standards to Mclaren...or even Lamborghini or Ferrari. Anyone who thinks Ferraris are ironclad investments should take a good look at the classifieds for mid-engine Ferraris and consider the used prices versus the prices paid when new. And the V12 Ferraris depreciate even more. Truly, such criticisms are neither objective nor equally applied. Of course, my comments will almost certainly have no effect. Maybe in a few years there'll be some real bargains for those who know their a's from their e's. I just hope Maserati perseveres with the MC20, and we see the electric version pioneering the relatively affordable electric supercar, while also continuing to offer versions with the amazing Nettuno V6. Unfortunately, Maserati continues to be off most people's radar. While the new GranTurismo does look pretty much like the old one, and the electric version is arguably too expensive, who else is offering a full EV in that space? Sadly, it is the new four-cylinder, essentially Alfa-derived compact SUVs that are getting the love. Where's the criticism of such abominations to the Maserati brand?!

    Normally, I'd be aghast that it's just a six-cylinder, regardless of torque, HP, and acceleration. With this beast, I just don't care. It could be a 2-cylinder and I'd still love it. Okay, maybe I exaggerate a little...but not much.

    Love the look of the MC20, but I can't help but just think it's already dated. Sports car like these, the V6 twin Turbo stuff made an appearance +10 years ago. Mazza always seems to be late to the party with their cars. 😵

    The only really prominent sports car with a V6 turbo 10 years ago was the GT-R. Ferrari and McLaren also have similar engines now with the 296 and the Artura so it's in vogue.

    You expected inline 3 turbo with 400kg extra hybrid stuff? Would be better this way? Late with tech? How many pre-chamber gasoline engines we have already on the market? Late again? Bc they where with twin turbo systems dacade earlier than others, making the strongest 2.0L in the world for a long years?

  • @nigel.w

    @nigel.w

    Жыл бұрын

    I would argue they were early to the party. And rejected the hybrid nonsense that Ferrari and McLaren have gone with. Maserati has shown it can outperform the Artura without the hybridization. And remember that this car was designed from the get go to accomodate a full EV powertrain, and will be early to that party as well. The new GranTurismo is already out as a full EV, a version of which must soon appear in the MC20. Demonstrably early to the party not late. And, I'd say they've got it right by omitting the hybrid for the sake of hybrid step. These cars are complicated enough and costly enough to maintain without adding clearly unnecessary hybridization that will also date the powertrain far more than its absence will.

    The Artura is 1,470 kg dry. Couldn't find a wet weight. Maserati has stated the wet weight. The comparable V8TT Mclarens were mainly in the 1400-1450kg range, wet. I think it's a bigger car than the McLarens and the ever-increasing amount of tech adds weight, too.

    Fanboy review. Gorgeous design, but its 911 Turbo S money! (and there are some clear Maserati cost cutting measures going on). Morons still pay $50k for the Maserati name, while real enthusiasts subtract $50.This car should (and would) compete strongly on price with a new Z06, not a new Huracan.
