Why was seeing Mary smile so heart warming for me? How I wish Phillip would bring happiness to her after the awful life she endured. But we all know it didn't go that way. Which only makes it sadder.

3 years later but I will try to explain this to you. Charles needed to give him a kingdom as he was marrying a queen, at this point Philip was only Duke of Milan. It was a matter of political status, as a queen she can't marry a Duke.

@@albertmont3411 Who told you that? If said Duke was a subject of said Queen then yes, it would be improper as she would be raising one of her own subjects, but Milan was not in the English Domain, and stood as an independent nation. In Mary’s case, it was because she didn’t wish to marry a man that wasn’t a King in his own right, and Charles V wouldn’t pass up on the opportunity for the Habsburg’s to inherit England and Ireland and thus granted his son Naples and Sicily.

Charles, 1 of Spain/Charles, the fifth of the holy Roman Empire. He was actually originally patrolled to marry the first. But he ended up changing his mind. Instead, he married Phillips’s mother, Isabel of Portugal. It’s kind of crazy that his son later on married, Mary the first of England.

He had a beard and actually the father looks more like Phillip II at this time and Mary, who was around 37-38 at this time looked older and not nearly as attractive as portrayed here. Plus Phillip was shocked by what he saw and would have rather married Elizabeth.

In December 2011, the pearl sold for a record price of more than $11 million (£7.1m). La Peregrina was sold as part of Elizabeth Taylor's collection, which was being auctioned at Christie's in New York. It was sold mounted on the diamond Cartier necklace. Its value had been estimated at $3 million, but the bidding vastly exceeded the estimate and reached $10.5 million - increasing to more than $11 million once the various fees were factored in.[8][9] In the press, a second pearl has been claimed to be the Mary Tudor pearl. As of 2013, it is owned by the jewelers select Jewellers Symbolic & Chase and was to be exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in autumn 2013. This pearl is somewhat larger than The Peregrina.

@John Johnny Since when does having something originate mean to continue being that something? The truth is that the Habsburg branch that governed Spain was Spanish and that is why it was called Habsburg-Trastamara because its autority came from the Catholic Kings. It was not for nothing that Charles I of Spain and V of Germany commanded his Universal Empire from Spain and thus made it appear on his Europa Regina. jralonsoes.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/mapa-red.jpg It is very typical of Germans and French to grant themselves merits that do not belong to them. Spain begins as a cultural nation in Roman Hispania and as a political nation in Visigothic Hispania. Spain reconquered and unified by the Catholic Monarchs is Spain and as such was recognized as the other themes of Christendom. Like it or not, Spain had indirect power over England at that time.

@John Johnny You certainly do honor to your avatar. Stupid ignorant. In the days of the Catholic Kings, the Habsburgs were not really powerful. It was not the Hasburgs who financed the Catholic Kings but the Hebrew bankers who lived in Spain. The Habsburgs were only entitled to Spain for having mixed and related to the Trastamara and was an essential for them, descend from the Catholic Monarchs for rule in Spain. Habsburgs-Trastamara was the senior branch of the Habsburg dynasty and serious Anglo-Saxon historians recognize it as such. slideplayer.com/slide/13058820/79/images/16/United+Provinces%3A+a+longer-lived+new+republic.jpg Likewise, the right of the Spanish Bourbons to rule, comes from the fact that the last Spanish Habsburgs preferred the Bourbons over the Austrian Habsburgs due, in part, to the close mix (blood/culture) they had with the former. The Spanish Bourbons also need to descend from the Catholic Kings to rule. Charles I of Spain and V of Germany was born in Ghent, yes, but he has more Latin descent than Germanic, since his mother was Spanish and his father was half French. And do not forget that Catholic Kings not only descend from the Visigoths, but also from Hispano-Romans, Arabs and Jews. Karl V is the name that Charles receives as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Carlos I is the name that he receives as King of Spain. They are not interchangeable names in matters of Spanish politics. Sorry, but an ignorant ape like you is not qualified to debate with me. Instead of watching shit documentaries, you should read historians like Jonh Elliot to know much better about these topics. You know(?) wikipedia is a liberal and marxist source, so no serious historian uses it. You are very haughty to belong to a cultural sphere that for centuries has been dominated by Jews haha.

@@LuisCruz-eo3jt When was the House of Habsburg referred to as Habsburg-Trastamara? During the period they reigned over Spain, the Habsburgs would have generally been referred to as the House of Austria, as that is where they hailed from, and the usage of Habsburg would become more prominent in the 19th century. You could argue that the House of Tudor was called Tudor-York as their authority came from the House of York, but that’s not true. You are somewhat correct on Spain having indirect control over England, as despite all the measures put in place to avoid Spanish dominance and personal union, Queen Mary I often took Philip II of Spain’s advice which led to England’s involvement in the Italian Wars and the subsequent loss of Calais

Her beauty, which was deemed remarkable in her teens and 20s faded because of the sufferences Henry VIII and his tyrannical character put her through. She was considered the rose of the tudors as far as external beauty is concerned. Please respect her memory. Trust me, from what I've read about her she doesn't deserve to be despised. At the very least, she never marketed herself as something she wasn't. She was very generous, especially towards common people (see for example the Enclosure Act, while Elizabeth let her soldiers die on their ships after they gained her a war victory in order to save money not having to pay them), always stuck to her beliefs, and always acted according to them, even though they led her to horrible actions. I warmly recommend Carolly Erickson's book, which offers a balanced and honest overview of this queen, a thing in any case most historians are already trying to do.
