Mary the Mother of God: A Model of Lay Contemplative Life, Part 1 - Thomas Keating

Fr. Thomas Keating describes Mary as a model for the contemporary contemplative. Her greatest gift was her willingness to consent to God's presence and action in her life. This is part 1 of a 2-part talk, recorded in Ramsey, New Jersey. For part 2, go to • Mary the Mother of God... .

That to Mary and to Elizabeth who as an elder sister cousin was bonded friend in the mystery of life and the incarnation and Jesus herald John the Baptist. Mary IS the Mother of God. Jesus is both fully divine and fully human, the manifestation of God on Earth. The Holy Trinity is ONE person. Through Mary's Consent to the Divine God, the the Holy Spirit entering her, and the mixing of Gods divinity with her human genetics, was born the Divine Human. This is how God wanted it, he was born human and flesh with his divine spirit to redeem this world and walk the earth as a man. Mary is HIS mother, she was chosen by God, with her consent to carry the Divine in her womb . She said YES. She gave her body over to Gods Will. Through her a new church was made, a new Eve, and the first true Christian. She laid down her life as a perfect vessel with perfect love. To those who argue that she could not be the Mother of God because "God" chose her to carry his "Son", you need to understand with a deeper intellect. God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the End, "He" is outside of time and space, and gender for that matter. He chose his mother from the beginning, he knew how everything would play out. As soon as we fell from Eden He had a plan. Mary was there from the beginning to the end of her divine Son's human life. She prompted him to perform his first miracle when there was no wine, when others abandoned him remained steadfast, She stood at his feet on the cross. She embodies not only the perfect Christian, but also the new Eden. Her body was made perfect and pure to carry and birth Human Redemption in the Flesh, to bring about paradise once more. She awakens in us the first sign of our divine saviour in the flesh through Her Body. She is surely worthy of our veneration and prayers for intercession, her spirit is one of great strength, purity, and devotion to God the "Trinity". Her genetic body contributed all of Gods Human DNA. Jesus told his disciples to behold his mother as "their"mother. Aren't we all disciples? We are to look to Mary as "our" Mother. She brings us to her son with the deep love and devotion only a mother can carry! She truly is the blessed mother, the bride of the holy spirit, the Mother of God, and the example of a free yet submissive love to the divine Creator.

The Council of Ephesus proclaimed in 431 that Mary truly became the Mother of God. To many Christians, however, Mary can not be the mother of God for God has no beginning and no end. So to those who objected this proclamation, I have these to share: First, Jn 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” Here, Christians should ask these two questions: 1. How did God give his only Son to the world? 2. Did God give the world his only Son as one whole, undivided person, or did God give the world only a portion of his only Son? To question #1, God gave his only Son to the world through Mary. To question #2, God gave the world his only Son wholly and undivided. So, through Mary, the second person of the Holy Trinity entered this world and became man by taking on human flesh and a human soul in the womb of Mary. For this reason, Jesus is true God and true man. In His person are united both a divine nature and human nature. Mary gave birth to this true God and true man person; she is the Mother of God. To say that Mary gave birth only to the ‘man Jesus’ is to say that God did not give the world his only Son. Second, though the Son of God has no beginning and no end, “for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.” This means, at some point in time between eternity and eternity, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity comes down from heaven, becomes incarnate of the Virgin Mary and becomes man. This point in time belongs to God, and when it comes, God creates Mary, the handmaid of the Lord, to fulfill his plan. This point in time is the time which St. Paul wrote:Gal 4: 4-5, (4) But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, (5) to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. So Mary did not create the divine person of Jesus, who existed with the Father from all eternity. Rather, when the fullness of time came, the divine person of Jesus came down from heaven, united himself to one egg in Mary’s womb and became man. This man, therefore, must be truly man and truly God. Since Mary gave birth to this truly man and truly God person; she truly is the mother of God. If Mary did not give birth to Jesus who is true God and true man, then who became man? Who became incarnate of the Virgin Mary? If the divine person of Jesus did not unite himself to one egg in Mary’s womb and became man, how did the Word became flesh? Where and how did the incarnation take place? Therefore, those who believed that Mary gave birth only to the man Jesus and the divine Jesus united himself to this man afterward denied the mystery of the incarnation; they believed in possession instead. Third, - Before Mary became pregnant, the angel clearly said to her that the Son she will conceive is the Son of the Most High, not a mere regular man. Lk 1:31,32, (31) Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. (32) He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father,” - While Mary was pregnant, filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth proclaimed that Mary is the mother of God. Lk 1:42, 43, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. (43) And how does this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” - An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Mat 1:20, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. - The night Mary gave birth to Jesus, the angel, again, proclaimed that the child Jesus is our Savior, the Messiah and Lord. Lk 2:10, 11, (10) And the angel said to them, "Be not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people; (11) for today in the city of David a Savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. So to reject Mary as being Mother of God is to deny the truth written in the Gospel according to Lk 1:31-32, 42-43; 2:10-11; and Mat 1:20. To reject Mary as being Mother of God is to deny also that Jesus Christ come in the flesh. To these St. John wrote: 1-Jn 4:2-3, “(2) This is how you can know the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh belongs to God, (3) and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus does not belong to God. This is the spirit of antichrist, as you heard, is to come, but in fact is already in the world.” Finally, since it is written that the angel proclaimed that the child born of the Virgin Mary is the Son of the Most High; he is the Messiah, our Savior and our Lord. It is also written that Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and proclaimed that Mary is the Mother of God; by proclaiming that Mary truly become the Mother of God, the Catholic Church did no more than reaffirming what was already written in the Bible.

5 errors when explaining this I noticed. 1. Need explain that the Person's of the Divine Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). 2. Need to use scripture for the explanation. 3. The RCC replaces or counterfeits Persons within the Trinity. 4. Never used the word "flesh" 5. mother of God is an open ended title Jesus was 2 Persons with 2 natures in a human body when he came to earth. I will explain starting with the Divine Person and Nature. Explaining the Divine Person, Spiritual Birth and Nature of Jesus Why Mary never gave birth to The Divine Person along with the Divine Nature of Jesus. Reason why, the Son (Jesus) was Begot of the Father within the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and is the only begotten of the Father. John writes in John 1:14 " And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." >>>>>>>Here Scripture says the "Word", who is Jesus the Son became flesh is the only begotten of the Father. Jesus says in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Jesus says in John 10:30 "I and My Father are one.” John 1:14 , 3:16, and John 10:30 clearly states the Jesus was begot with in the Trinity, specifically the Father. This verses clearly state Jesus is a Divine Person and Divine in Nature. The Divine Person and Divine Nature of Jesus cannot be separated, they both go hand in hand and only exist with in the Trinity. Jesus the Divine Person along with the Divine Nature was born before creation. Paul writes in Colossians 1:15 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." Jesus the Divine Person and Nature was begot of the Father before Mary a created human gave birth to Jesus in the Flesh. Jesus was born or begot before creation ("first born over all creation"), which means He was born or begot in Eternity. Eternity means infinite or unending time. Even life after death is eternal. We know Jesus is a Divine Person with a Divine Nature begot of the Father within the Trinity (Godhead) before creation. Jesus (Son) the Divine Person along with the Divine Nature was also born within the Spiritual realm not the fleshly or humanly world. Remember there are Three Persons within the Trinity or Godhead that have a Divine Nature and have existed in eternity and before creation in the Spiritual realm. Summarizing, Since Jesus was born Divine that simply means that the Divine Person and Nature of Jesus the Son was already Established with in the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) or Godhead before creation. Mary cannot birth the Divine Person of Jesus, that belongs to God with in the Trinity before creation. Since the Divine Person and Nature of the Son Jesus is established begot and birth within the Trinity, Now we can look at the fleshly birth of Jesus. Mary contributed the flesh. Jesus says in John 3:5 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." For the Divine Son Jesus to be born in this world He would have to take on flesh and become flesh. Another Point sin had to be put to death in the flesh (Romans 8:10-17) . That is why Jesus came in the flesh and be put to death on the Cross. Luke writes in Hebrews 2:14 " Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil," John writes in John 1:14 " And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Paul writes in 1 Timothy 3:16 "God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory." The virgin Mary just gave birth to the flesh of the Jesus NOT the the Divine Person and Nature of Jesus. Mary contributed the flesh so God in Nature and in the Person of Jesus the Son can be manifested in the flesh and be born of the virgin Mary in the flesh. Jesus was born of Mary in the flesh under the Law as well the virgin birth was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 The Holy Spirit overshadows Mary. Luke writes in Luke 1:35 "And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God." This clearly is mentioning the Divine Person and Nature which is already established in eternity is coming into the sin filled world in flesh by child birth. Mary is going to provide the human flesh for the Divine Person of Jesus the "Son". Only the Power of God thru the Person of the Holy Spirit and the Son can do this divine or supernatural intervention. This is a Miracle. Paul writes in Philippians 2:7" but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men." ESV explains it this way Philippians 2:7 "but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. Jesus of course was and is the Ultimate servant, but also had the same nature and likeness of man. The likeness and nature of man or mankind would include child birth, the 5 senses, eating, sleeping, breathing, communicating, emotional and ect.. He was fully a fleshly Man or to say human in nature. Jesus was 100% a Person of flesh and a nature of flesh as well 100% God in a Person and Nature, fully man and God at the same time. Jesus possessed both man and God. Jesus was God incarnate. Mary did not birth the deity or Divine Person of Jesus the Son like this video says. The Divine Person Jesus always existed (Eternal) that can not be born from a mortal fleshly created human like Mary. The virgin Mary just gave birth to the flesh for the Divine Son of God. God as the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) self exists and cannot be born from a created human like Mary. Jesus was first begot of the Father, and for Jesus to come to earth he had to be born of Flesh. Mary just gave birth to the Flesh of the Divine Person of Jesus. Rome's dogma of Mary and title "mother of God", counterfeits or removes and replaces Persons within the Trinity (Godhead). The perpetual virginity counterfeits the Person of the Father in the Trinity. The RCC claims Mary stayed a virgin her whole life and her only begotten son is Jesus. This belief counterfeits what it says in John 3:16 ""For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son". The Father begot the Son or to say the Son was born of the Father. Also that Mary staying a virgin her whole life counterfeits the Son, because Jesus probably stayed a virgin his whole earthly life. Mary did have other children found in Matthew 12:46-47, Matthew 13:55, Mark 6:2-3, John 2:12, Acts 1:14, 1 Cor. 9:4-5, and Gal. 1:19. The title "mother of God" is open ended title and is very misleading. Man should not have given the title "mother of God" and the RCC should not keep imputing that title to Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus. By imputing the title "mother of God" they introduce error. What the council in Ephesus in 431 should have done. is given Mary the title "mother of the God-Man" (Theanthropos). Even "mother of God in the flesh" which would be appropriate. This would separate the Deity and the Humanity and explain the Three persons of God (Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit) or the Godhead and Mary the earthly, human, and fleshly mother of Jesus. With just the title "mother of God" The Roman Catholic Church leaves a false open ended title that makes Mary to be Mother of the God of the Trinity and exalted above the Trinity, which is a huge error and why the Roman Catholic Church gets attacked on this "mother of God" title. With an open ended title "mother of God" other names for Mary crept in as well like Queen of heaven, Perpetual Virgin, Blessed Mother, Mediatrix (co-redemptrix), Benefactress and many more no need to mention.

@@Dexter.001 YOU: What the council in Ephesus in 431 should have done. is given Mary the title "mother of the God-Man" (Theanthropos). Even "mother of God in the flesh" which would be appropriate. This would separate the Deity and the Humanity and explain the Three persons of God (Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit) or the Godhead and Mary the earthly, human, and fleshly mother of Jesus. ME: No, calling her "Mother of God" is appropriate. Funny how Catholics are the only ones who understand the correct meaning of that term, and everyone else twist's it to mean Mary is the Mother of the Father, instead of the Son of God. Mary's unique role in salvation history is that she conceived the Son of God (who is God) in her womb, so that makes her the Mother of God, and this is the way Catholic's understand it.

No, Mary did not give birth to the Jesus as God. Jesus is eternal and has always existed. Jesus as God existed before Mary. Mary gave birth to the Man Jesus or to say the human part of Jesus. Rome's false teaching with giving Mary the title "mother of God" is in ERROR. It is Really no different than people who promote angels as "sons of God" in the OT. Mary does has Nothing to do with the title "mother of God" no different than angels are the "sons of God"

Mary or as the egyptians called her Isis is the representation of nature, she is represented by women or female life forms. by the end of the pagan age, Isis has subsumed the identity of most other female goddesses in that region. if you study the ancient poets and mystery religious you will always find the same references and attributes connected to a prehistoric female deity cult that embodied the aspects of nature. later on during the enlightenment age isis was agian refurbished to symbolize science trying to understand nature by lifting the veil of ignorance that continually shouds nature, later still she was refurbished as Mary to help convert pagans. that is why statues of isis are always cloaked in a veil of black covered by stars. she was also refered to the queen of space because she was seen as embodying the space whitched contained the universe as a mother bears her child within herself. the male diety embodying light or spirit. it is more correct to view the goddess as a conglomeration of things and intelligence which is why she is best known for being represented by so many different deities. in the Egyptian myths, she is, in fact, the most powerful god because she tricked Ra or the incarnation of Amun into giving her his name which contained his power. she is the great sorceress who presides over all the affairs of the gods and men having assumed the role of the primary deity. in reality, she is part of a dyad being half male and half female and perhaps a better way of looking at it is half positive and half negative, negative being of the creative type containing all things. in ancient Egypt the true way of worshiping Isis was through ritual that later became the foundation of science. this is because it is only by science or the rigorous study of nature that man can ever hope to lift her mantle of shining stars banishing his own ignorance by adhering to a lifelong study of causality inherent in mathematics, history, an psychology. the mother goddess cult is the oldest religion known to man second to animism which states that all things contain within them a spirit or structure of coherence. our own consciousness is, therefore, a conglomeration of wills and drives that manifest from patterns of complexity, order and disorder. even in the Asian Taoism there is the reference to the forest mother. the myths of the male and female dieties is one that can be found in all cultures and all religions, every man is an incarnation of the masculine diety and every woman is an incarnation of the feminine diety, and yet within both contain both aspects thought time the story of their relationship is retold in songs, in poems, in movies, and in stories. their relationship told over and over and over again ingrained within mankind's subconscious. in every duet, their song is sung, in every mystery the clues that lead trace back over millennia to the first woman who sowed the seeds that would become the foundation of agriculture setting the stage for civilization itself. hinting that women were responsible for farming and therefore also for the cities that would become the powerhouse of human history. this is why agriculture is connected to the female goddess time and time again. at her feet the golden wheat grows, in her hands a vase pouring out the waters of fertility and creation.

1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) "For there is ONE God, and ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, THE MAN Christ Jesus;" If Jesus is God, and the scripture says there's only one mediator, between God and men, which is Jesus Himself. So how can be another mediator between Jesus (which is God) and men, since Jesus is the mediator and God? Because Jesus is God, so the mediator between Jesus (as God) and men is Jesus himself, the man Christ Jesus, not others men nor women. With that, there's no men nor women qualified to become a mediator between God (Holy Trinity) and men, if you believe Jesus is God!

@@barbaramcintosh1722 Apparently, you didn't understand what I said before, so I will repeat it. ! At Luke 1:31, 35, the angel says to Mary: "Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God." So, according to what the angel told Mary, did he say that her future Son was true God and true man? Absolutely not! Mary was to become the mother of the Son of God, not of God himself. Your problem is that you choose to accept the word of the man-made Catholic Nicene Creed, while ignoring the clear words of the Bible which says Jesus' Father is not just God, but "the *ONLY* true God." (John 17:3) The word "only" means, "to the exclusion of others." So, since Jesus' Father is the true God to the exclusion of others, how many other true Gods can there be? Answer: NONE!! You need an accurate study of the Bible big time.

No he explains this in error. 5 errors when explaining this I noticed. 1. Need explain that the Person's of the Divine Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). 2. Need to use scripture for the explanation. 3. The RCC replaces or counterfeits Persons within the Trinity. 4. Never used the word "flesh" 5. mother of God is an open ended title Jesus possessed 2 natures in a human body when he came to earth.

John chapter 14 verse 6: " Jesus said to him," I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." How then can Mary intercede for you? She can't. How then do you expect her to speak to God on your behalf? She can't. To reject going through Christ, is to be against Christ. Anything that goes against Christ, has already the spirit if antichrist. Return to God, through Christ, the only way. Do it now, before it's too late for you. Oh people with hardened hearts. Oh people who are against the Word of God. Mary cannot save you. She cannot intercede for you. What is God to do with you, if you reject the only Way, He provides for you? Jesus is the only Way.

Teaching that Mary is the Mother of God is an easy process when one doesn't teach from the Bible, as the individual in this video plainly demonstrates. (did you notice he didn't provide or cite any scripture to support his views? He just talked and talked...) The Bible does not teach that Mary is the mother of God, nor does it suggest that Christians should either worship or venerate Mary. Mary never claimed that she was the mother of God. The Bible explains that she gave birth to “the Son of God,” not God himself.-Mark 1:1; Luke 1:32. Jesus Christ never said that Mary was God’s mother or that she was worthy of special devotion. In fact, he corrected a woman who gave special attention to Mary’s happy role as his mother, saying: “No, rather, happy are those hearing the word of God and keeping it!”-Luke 11:27, 28. The terms “Mother of God” and “Theotokos” (God-bearer) are not found in the Bible. The expression “Queen of Heaven” in the Bible refers, not to Mary, but to a false goddess worshipped by apostate Israelites. (Jeremiah 44:15-19) The “Queen of Heaven” may have been Ishtar (Astarte), a Babylonian goddess. Early Christians did not worship Mary, nor did they give her any special honor. One historian states that early Christians “would have rejected cults and probably feared that undue attention to Mary might evoke a suspicion of goddess worship.”-In Quest of the Jewish Mary. The Bible says that God has always existed. (Psalm 90:1, 2; Isaiah 40:28) Since he had no beginning, he cannot have a mother. Furthermore, Mary could not have held God in her womb; the Bible makes clear that even the heavens cannot contain him.-1 Kings 8:27. Mary-Mother of Jesus not “Mother of God” Mary was Jewish by birth, and she was a direct descendant of King David. (Luke 3:23-31) She was highly favored by God for her faith and devotion. (Luke 1:28) God chose her to become the mother of Jesus. (Luke 1:31, 35) Along with her husband, Joseph, Mary had other children.-Mark 6:3. Although the Bible shows that Mary became a disciple of Jesus, not much additional information is given about her.-Acts 1:14. Why do some consider Mary the mother of God? The earliest evidence of devotion to Mary dates from the late fourth century C.E. At that time, the Catholic Church became the State religion of the Roman Empire. As a result, many who had a pagan background became nominal Christians. The church had also adopted the unscriptural teaching of the Trinity. The doctrine of the Trinity led many in the church to conclude that if Jesus were God, then Mary must be the mother of God. In 431 C.E., a church council in Ephesus officially proclaimed Mary the “Mother of God.” Mariolatry-the excessive veneration of Mary-flourished after this Council of Ephesus. And as those from a pagan background joined the church, images and icons of the Virgin Mary gradually took the place of their fertility goddesses, such as Artemis (Diana, to the Romans) and Isis. In 432 C.E., Pope Sixtus III ordered a church to be built in Rome in honor of the “Mother of God.” It was built near the site of an earlier temple erected in honor of Lucina, the Roman goddess of childbirth. One author described this church as “an enduring symbol of the assimilation of the Great Mother of the pagan cults to the cult of Mary after the Christianization of Rome.”-Mary-The Complete Resource.

Cheryl Barron I cite actual scripture and factual information and you call it insulting? Here... in·sult verb inˈsəlt/ 1. speak to or treat with disrespect or scornful abuse So now that we've cleared that up and have shown that I didn't insult anyone, let's address the rest of your comment... (Providing one with facts that disprove one's belief is not an insult, it's called a correction.) Show me any scripture in the Bible that shows Jesus saying, "I am God," or anyone else saying, "Jesus is God the Son." I dare you. (you can't, because it doesn't. Ever.) Mary was not the first Christian since Christian means 'of Christ,' and she did not "follow" an infant or become the infant's student. Mary was a practicing Jew, (from the tribe of Judah) who faithfully observed traditional Jewish customs and practices well after Jesus' birth. Jesus, the son of God, did not become the Christ or the Messiah, until he was baptised. (as an adult BTW) Your reasoning about wives and mothers is based on human understanding, not God's. I can show you instances in the Bible of mothers telling their children to do things for their own gain. Look, I get it that you can be told something over and over and over and eventually it will become a 'believable fact' to you, (traditions of man) but if it disagrees with biblical teaching, it's False. Period. Sorry, I don't make the rules, I just live by them.

Jesus is God and Mary is the Mother of God. In God's plan of Salvation, God sent HIS son in flesh as a human baby and Mary is the Mother of Jesus. Jesus although fully human also has a Divine Nature which is intact. Mary is the Mother of God simply because Jesus is both man & God. God took on human nature for the Salvation of Mankind. It is simple so why are you in so much conflict Ben.

There is no conflict at all. Jesus is God & Mary is HIS mother. Prophets have foretold his coming "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty GOD , Eternal Father & Prince of Peace". From Gen 3:15 to Rev Mary's role is crystal clear Jesus is God & Mary being Jesus' Mother.Catholic Councils have decided the canon(list of books) of the New Testament & we can never be in conflict. Fundamentalist can twist & misrepresent facts but cannot change "Divine Scripture"

Agreed, you are most definitely NOT in conflict with what these catholic councils are teaching, but their teachings are definitely in conflict with the bible. And these are the same "councils" responsible for so many unscriptural practices, traditions, and customs used in today's catholic teachings as well as being responsible for the deaths of millions in wars, crusades, when trying to keep the contents of the bible secret, and other political and financial agendas. I don't think much wisdom is required in deciding not to put very much stock in those 'councils' my friend. And your statement that Jesus is God is "crystal clear from Gen 3:15 on..." can ONLY be true if you have willingly and knowingly ignored and disregarded the following: "God is only one."-Galatians 3:20 (not three or one-third of a whole) "[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation" -Colossians 1:15 (God wasn't born or created, and being an image of a thing does not make one THAT thing) "For God “subjected all things under [Jesus'] feet.” But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that this does not include the One who subjected all things to him. But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him"-1 Corinthians 15:27, 28 (If Jesus was God, all things would have already been subjected to him, and there would be no need to differentiate between the two individuals by saying that the ONE wasn't subjected to the other, and the other was subjected to the One) "You heard that I (Jesus) said to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I am."-John 14:28 (how can God be greater than God? How can God be God's God?) "But these have been written down so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and because of believing, you may have life by means of his name."-John 20:31 (Scripture ALWAYS asks us to believe and have faith that Jesus is God's son in order to receive God's promise, it NEVER asks us to believe or have faith that Jesus is God.) "“But will God really dwell on the earth? Look! The heavens, yes, the heaven of the heavens, cannot contain you; how much less, then, this house that I have built!""-1 Kings 8:27 (If God can't be contained by a building, a planet, or the sky... a womb could certainly never accomplish this.) "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus"-1 Timothy 2:5 (By the very definition of "mediator" it is absolutely impossible for one of the two parties to be a mediator between the two.) "there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him"-1 Corinthians 8:6 (no 'trinity' mentioned here) ... these are just a few of hundreds of statements in the bible that not only disagree with your statement, but actually conflict with it. Please don't respond with statements about what so-called "councils" have decided, and just cite scripture to support your claims. “In order to articulate the dogma of the Trinity, the [Catholic] Church had to develop her own terminology with the help of certain notions of philosophical origin.”-Catechism of the Catholic Church, and yet the bible says... "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) and, "For all the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction,+ so that through our endurance+ and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope." (Romans 15:4) It does NOT say that councils are needed to decide anything, or that the wisdom of a mother church is needed, or that anything in the bible is not understandable by the common person without the practicing the traditions of men, or anything written or said AFTER the scriptures were penned in order to interpret scripture. Regarding the Trinity, the Athanasian Creed (in English) says that its members are “incomprehensible.” Teachers of the doctrine often state that it is a “mystery.” Obviously such a Trinitarian God is not the one that Jesus had in mind when he said: “We worship what we know.” (John 4:22) ...drops the mic
