Mary Jo Buttafuoco Revisits The Infamous Case Of Amy Fisher 26 Years Later | Megyn Kelly TODAY

Mary Jo Buttafuoco’s life was torn apart in 1992 when teenager Amy Fisher, who was having an affair with her husband, shot Buttafuoco in a jealous rage. Known as “The Long Island Lolita,” Fisher was at the center of a story the media couldn’t get enough of, and now it’s revisited in the Oxygen series, “Snapped.” Twenty-six years later, Buttafuoco joins Megyn Kelly TODAY to recall the frightening day of the shooting and what happened in the aftermath.

    Joey has ALWAYS been bad news. I read Mary Jo's book a couple of years ago & she tells a charming story about how when she was pregnant Joey led the cops on a high speed persuit. A 13 year old is in prison for 20 years for stabbing his 4 Y.O little sister 17 times due to jealousy. He asked the babysitter to leave early and planned the entire thing. If you think 19 is too young I'm sure you don't believe that but it is VERY POSSIBLE.

    Don't be silly. Jealousy doesn't see age PERIOD. It only sees the person. The object. And unless you have been in big gap relationships, you aren't qualified to speak on them like an authority. I met my husband in my early 20s and he was early 40s. He was newly divorced. I was jealous of his ex wife despite her being old. When he told me they didn't have kids together, I ALMOST DANCED A HOLE through the earth. That meant she wouldn't be constantly in and out of our home exchanging visitation. But they stayed friends. I'm use to her now and am friends with her but 20+ years ago the sound of her voice made me clinch my teeth. Old or not. Amy was an American city girl. City children murder. I use to live in Baltimore. Half of the murders are committed by children it seems like. Blame the environment. Jealousy is a leading cause of murder. Learn about humans. You are one. I understand the instinct to scapegoat others but she is responsible for her own behavior.

Police would have looked for a man who didn't exist and never would have found anyone.. Joey would have had an alibi, no knowledge and there were no text messages back then for investigators to check and find out about the affair.. etc.. It's crazy to think how different the outcome would have been.

  • @fyiman1777

    @fyiman1777

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@merncat75 - "Obviously, if his wife had died, the world NEVER would have even heard of Amy Fisher." We don't have any way of knowing that, and while remotely possible, I seriously doubt it. It's true that in the first few hours of the investigation, the police were looking for a male suspect and only initially considered Amy Fisher a suspect after Mary Jo was able to tell them by writing it on paper. But, that doesn't mean they wouldn't have eventually discovered Amy Fisher another way, in the event that Mary Jo didn't survive, or even if she survived but just couldn't remember the event at all, which sometimes does happen. Witness statements collected later might have led them to a young woman. Amy's accomplice (Peter Guagenti) might have been discovered while looking for a man, which might have led them to Amy. The police also would have eventually investigated Joey, and while there was no texting and few if any mobile phones at the time, they would have checked his home and work phones, checked credit card and banking transactions, and interviewed Joey's friends and work associates, which might have led them to Amy. Also, the police were eventually able to recover the gun and stolen license plate she used, which might have also led the police to Peter Guagenti or Amy Fisher. And let's not ignore the possibility that Joey might have turned her in, or that Amy might have eventually blabbed to someone about it. So yes, the fact that Mary Jo was able to implicate Amy Fisher very early on, allowed the police to quickly focus their attention on Amy Fisher, but the police have many more ways to investigate it without her help.

    Well there is something to be said for turning your life around or rather making the best of a bad situation, but when you refuse to admit that, that person you married and had children with, that he no longer found you attractive and wanted to screw around with under age girls, yes Amy is a criminal but so is Joey and Joey more so because he was the adult and her husband, he owned Mary Jo the respect and love that she deserved. Amy wanted something that wasn't her's and was willing to go along with Joey to get it. I think Mary Jo, deep down knows that Joey put Amy up to it, not that it took much convincing, but the fact that Mary Jo still go's to these family gatherings with him across the room, would give me the chills.

    It still seems like this was all over the news just yesterday. After surviving a very abusive relationship myself, I read Mary Jo's book Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know It was surprisingly well-written & a page turner. This woman tried SO hard to love Joey & keep her family together. In the end, she had to walk away to save her sanity. Great read! 📖

    @@bettyechols6405 A child who did a terrible thing. I am not referring to the fact that she messed around with a married man. The married man is more to blame because he was the one with the marriage commitment, she was not, but the fact that she shot someone in the head and almost killed her. Do not try to exonerate her for being a "child." A child has to learn the difference between right and wrong and not go off the deep end when things do not go her way.

So happy for her & as far as Any Fischer, well, you know she has 3 children herself, & what goes around, comes around, so we'll see what heart aches she goes through with her own children! And she absolutely deserves each & every one of those heart aches after what she did to this woman who did nothing wrong. You rock, Mary Jo!

    Amy Fisher's children are suffering terribly at school, despite having moved from New York to Florida. American newspapers are very parochial and events like these appear in them in no time. No-one wants to befriend Amy Fisher's children "for fear that they carry the Fisher gene" and I am sorry for them, because they are the innocent the innocent victims in this unhappy saga.
