Whats going on was a game changer and an indictment on America...first time i heard it brought tears and its relevancy it stil present. This album here is genius as well but not on same level as whats going on...thats a national treasure.

You hit on exactly what made this song so special. At the time, nobody was layering back up vocals the way Marvin was. He used 7 tracks to essentially harmonize with himself - (that's Marvin in every octive). If you ever have 40 minutes to kill, you should really listen to the entire I Want You album on the best headphones or speakers you have access to. As far as reactions, "After the Dance" was the other big single off the album and another masterpiece.

And Teena Marie, who was a HUGE Marvin Gaye fan, had a song called, "Sugar Shack", in homage to Marvin. She also had a song named, "My Dear Mr. Gaye," that had elements of Marvin's "Distant Lover".

You're right Marvin is soul to the bone. If you want to hear one of his ultimate slow jams , lend your ears to " Just to keep you satisfied." You won't be disappointed

This entire song feels like an experience from start to finish. Marvin’s voice is so raw along with the layering of different instruments made it a beautiful masterpiece.

I love seeing people in Chicago step to this song.

FABULOUS! I knew what was ahead in the song and I knew he going was to LOVE it....and he did.

Nobody with any generation will ever complete with Marvin Gaye. He was unique in his own lane. He's a Top Five Goat of all music genres. The way he layered his voice especially with the background vocals and all that always gives me chills. Especially when you it his voice without the music. Rest in Heaven Mr.Gaye

Marvin Gaye was a phenomenal singer, writer and composer that had depth in the way he sang his songs. RIP Marvin Gaye. Btw this song was released in the 70's and is still being appreciated until this day. This is a classic artist.
