Fun trivia, but Joe Johnson, who directed The First Avenger, designed The Iron Giant - and there was an early What If episode concept for a crossover between First Avenger and another Johnson Disney sci-fi movie set in a similar timeframe, The Rocketeer. So whether or not the Stomper was specifically designed after the Iron Giant, they were definitely keeping Johnson's aesthetics in mind.

You can easily see how people could do some cool mods to these and army build them as just an armored soldier unit that would fit in with sci fi military displays.

I think this is the first time I’ve gotten a Legends figure here in the Uk at the same time as US Toy reviewers showcasing that same figure, great overview Robo as always! 👍 I really hope Hasbro give us a Wave 2 of What If figures 👍

Maaaan this looks so cool. I love this aesthetic for an iron man armor, and that lineup shot with The Stomper, Iron Monger, and Hulkbuster? Oh that's beautiful.

In regards to the Watcher, I think Marvel missed a great opportunity in the Disney+ What If...? by not getting the rights to use "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. For Hasbro's Hydra Stomper, I personally want a version where I can take Steve Rogers in and out of it. And also a removable Tesseract (aka the Cosmic Cube).

Great review Robo! The possibilities of this figure have me super intrigued. The GI Joe ideas are cool and I could see it at as a Mandroid or something as well. Definitely need to grab a couple.

Yeah, I noticed while posing mine and watching this review that it was a real pain getting him to stand in a neutral pose. He needs his feet wider and his toes out to balance with being so top heavy, I think.

Fantastic review video! Alternate Iron Man armors are so cool and usually interesting. As a collector of mainly the transforming aeroplane mecha ( Robotech / Macross ) type figures, that problem of having a figure stand straight up ( non dynamic pose ) is very familiar. It is indeed mostly caused by having so much weight high up in the figure. For the Robotech and Macross toys, some manufacturers went with metal feet to give a little more stability and balance. Good idea to angle or rock the feet to add stability when doing standing poses. I will keep that in mind. Thanks!

What If… Hasbro Didn’t Produce a Battle Damaged Repaint of The Hydra Stomper?

I’d sort of drawn a line through marvel legends collecting but honestly, this what if stuff may keep me hanging on. Probably going to pop out in the morning to buy one of these guys in spite of its issues.

You can actually put a regualr Iron Man blast effect into the peg hole at the wrist canon - it works really well for a firing effect!

Looks like a Sherman Tank mated with a MK1 Iron Man suit. Cool!!

I need this for my avengers WWII Desplay.

Once I get mine I’m definitely doing a heavy black or brown wash all over the suit and adding the realistic weathering scuff marks

I Loved Stompers!! Lol

Mine had super loose legs and a wobbly upper torso. So he's kind of flimsy. So he has a hard time standing up. I had to use a stand. It's a big bummer but it is what it is.

It would look great painted. I've never seen "What If", but I'd be tempted to get the Hot Toys version. Gives me a "Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot" vibe. Oh.. they screwed up by not making it scale with Cap Carter.. tsk.

This + the Captain Carter figure were the only things I wanted from the What If? run....until I saw the Dr. Strange episode (getting him too).

Was hyped for this but seeing the balance issues I cancelled my preorder. Great looking design though
