    @@PeterJPickles That point is so good I'll have to concede, which I do rarely. Yeah, Branagh is not bad but he never scored any triumphs like The Aviator.

    Only slip up was Jonathan asking Scorsese if he's ever been tempted to put himself in one of his movies "like Hitchcock". He does that in almost all of them, and in Taxi Driver he even has a small but quite significant speaking role.

    Jonathan is such a movie geek there's no way he didn't already know that! Looking back at interviews like these, he was very good at keeping it "broad" and asking questions he already knew the answer to, without dumbing it down too much.

    It's amazing. I didn't realize it was such a hit in England, but it's good to know. Why in the hell it wasn't better received here in the USA is just baffling to me.

    One of the greatest directors to ever live. This man will never be forgotten. Iconic. It would be my dream to ever be cast in one of his motion pictures. I’d even take an extra with one line 🤣

    Gangs of New York The Aviator The Departed Shutter Island The Wolf of Wall Street Killers of the Flower Moon All excellent films. I think Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro are all very good in what they do.

    To have such a prolific career and still be doing some of the best, if not the best, cinema in the world for 5 decades is insane. Killers of the Flower Moon is one of his absolute best. He is still going as strong as ever. Grand Master level. Few filmmakers reach this status. Hitchcock, Fellini, Kubrick, Wong kar wai. Obviously there are more but these come to mind immediately.

    The closest thing Scorcese did to a sci-fi film ended up being the animated picture Hugo in 2011. Edit: Hugo is not animated. No idea why I thought it was.

    @@TigerGreene i kinda hesitated for a second whether Hugo was indeed animated. I think that might be it is most CGI that has been in a scorsese movie. The wide shots of a snowy paris of early 20st century (did indeed have Polar express fantasy vibes), those long shots of camera moving among old trains and steams.

    I'm a fan of Scorsese's films and when The Irishman came out, I said; "I'm not going to miss it", then I saw it, and I actually liked it despite the 3-minutes-long it lasts. So, thank you Marty for giving us this masterpiece, I hope you had enjoyed the movie as well.

    I'd have to say, Jonathan Ross is not the greatest interviewer... asks a lot of questions, but doesn't follow up on them. For example, I would've loved to know what young, up-and-coming actors Scorsese wanted to work with back then.

    Most chat show hosts are lousy interviewers. They're always going for the laughs and they churn through the guests like cattle. They're not interested in the person, just in asking the same dull questions, plugging the project and trying to get a few cheap laughs. It's all about selling ads.

    In the 1970’s it was risk taking. Mean Streets & Taxi Driver were extremely experimental I think for their time.

    @@NoName-jq7tjI only saw taxi driver for the first time recently.. I didn’t realise how much joker (which I also enjoyed) had clearly been influenced by it. Taxi driver was a much better movie though imo.

    People forget- Raging Bull did not win the Oscar for Best Film of the Year. (Ordinary People, a great movie) It is objectively his greatest film. I think it was actually too good, too arty, too beautiful for the average brain to process. And most of the Academy don't even have an average brain!

    Raging Bull to me is the greatest movie of all time I have watched it about a dozen and I never get bored it's really the cinematography that makes it so breathtaking and the dialogue which is so realistic you'd think you were watching a documentary in my opinion 20/10

    as much as a good film Goodfellas was, it didn't deserver to win best picture or director when something like Dances with Wolves was in the roster. Movies like Dances are once in a generation kind of movie watching experience. A concoction in a bottle so magical that even its own creators would fail miserably if they ever tried to recreate it again.

    Bullshit. Scorsese does not have any connections to those circles. He is an old school Italian guy who lived most of his life in New York and not in Hollywood. He is also pretty religious and has values. Though he probably heard some things about Epstein, Weinstein and those other guys, like almost everyone from show business.
