Martin Lewis warns ‘people will die’ this winter

"We are going to have to take money from government debt or taxation and distribute it to those who cannot afford to pay their bills, if not, people will die."
'People will die’ if the government doesn’t intervene with rising energy price rises, warns Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis on #TimesRadio.

My bill will be £3700 based on last years use. We can only cut back so much & this is going to trash a lot of businesses. My business has only made a 3rd of what we made last year.

A lot of business’s are going to go under once the costs of that business start to really skyrocket. Add to that less money in people’s pockets and a drop in tax revenue-unfortunately, it’s going to get worse before it gets better. The government could help by cutting VAT and corporation tax for SME’s. Cannot see them doing that though-too thick and removed from economic reality. Good luck with your business.

"Martin Lewis warns ‘people will die’ this winter" It's almost as if you think the Tories care. They don't. Remember, this government had to be shamed by a footballer into feeding starving children in the middle of a global pandemic, while at the same time they were shovelling tens of billions of pounds out to their mates in illegally awarded contracts.

China’s coal usage is roughly 62% of their total energy production. Yep-62%, hardly small change. Wind is 5.5%, solar 3.1% hydro 17.3%. Other sources of energy production make up the remainder. Thats why the Chinese have just signed a deal with Saudi Arabia for more oil and are the biggest users of coal in the world-just their yearly increase in coal fired energy production is more than the U.K.’s entire output. What they are doing is diversifying-what the U.K. should have started doing way back in 2011 when a certain Mr Cameron was warned about the coming energy shortfall in the U.K. Not shutting down our power stations before planning for the country’s future energy needs. Wind and solar are NOT going to be anywhere near enough to provide for our current and future needs in the U.K. Still, if you’d bothered to read my other comments you would have known that. Insane. Here we are pumping £billions into Ukraine to protect democracy and the West while also having to support people because of high energy bills. This is a double whammy. More insane because the UK has ample supply of gas and oil from the North Sea, it's own generation plants, wind farms and nuclear reactors. If we just ignored international prices for oil and gas we would be almost self sufficient and energy prices for British consumers would be some of the lowest in the world. AS Martin Lewis has said, the problem is the separation of consumer arms from producer arms of energy companies. The producer arms have never had this kind of bonanza, profits are going through the roof. The consumer side has to buy from itself at market rates. Insane !!!

@@donkeychan491 That's one way to look at it. Certainly the prospects for fosil fuels looked bleak with push to renewanles and then the pandemic quashed demand ... natural gas was 10p a Therm and now £6.61 with increased demand post Covid, Russian reduced supply. But if there is a global recession, if thw war in Ukraine ends and if there is another pandemic (Flu) then demand will plumet and supply will flood. Prices will crash. The problem is that relying on market forces to set the price propagates a boom and bust effect on world economies. It also allows some producing countries to use it as a weapon. The end result is an even greater push to renewables and away from fosil fuels, speeding up the transition. Oil and Gas companies may celebrate these obscene profits now but most will fail in 30 years time. California has announced no new petrol/diesel cars can be sold in the state after 2035. California has the sixth largest economy in the World, it leads the way.

  • @donkeychan491

@@grumblewoof4721 The shift to renewables will be undermined by the fact that Western consumers will increasingly be too poor to afford electric vehicles and their governments too poor to fund the necessary investments in infrastructure. And if they continue to use money printing to “fund” these investments then they will become poorer still. The whole green agenda will quite likely be either abandoned or severely curtailed amidst a popular uprising or revolution caused by the cost of living crisis. We will be stuck with a very high dependence on oil and gas far into the future. Shame we wasted £400bn on covid - that would have made all the difference , but as a society we chose to funnel all our resources towards addressing a single , fairly minor , short term threat. A truly deranged set of priorities.

People expect to walk around their homes in winter in T-shirts and bare feet - because they have had it easy for 70 years. I grew up in a large country house savagely attacked by taxation. ...... Although supposedly 'wealthy', we wore secondhand clothes passed around cousins, we burnt wood in stoves, and we wore jerseys indoors when cold. I have lived outdoors through winters in a tent covered in bubblewrap, using ex-army thermal clothing, and a nightlight candle to heat it. ...... I had no income, made no claim on the state, and could live - comfortably - on £1 a day ( this was 2005-2007 ). / There is a process going on. ...... It sytrips away your foundations, forcing you to think outside the brainwashed box. As a non-working class man, we were attacked decades ago, and I went through having everything I believe in destroyed, so I see what is coming to MILLIONS OF PEOPLE - it is called spiritual development - and it is a tough game. They attacked men. ...... They attacked businesses. ...... They attacked farming and fishing. ...... They attacked freedom. ...... They attacked other countries. ...... They attacked population by inviting millions here. ...... They are now attacking both women and children. There is running our world a deadly, sick virus that attacks humanity like a rampaging cancer attacks a human body. You cannot get safety from organisations bought and paid for by the very organisation behind these attacks. You can only advance by developing your understanding, your perception, your insight. And by helping others do the same. In other words, we are engaged in a full-scale global war for the future of humanity. ...... On the one hand we have global tyranny imposed by ever increasing orchestrated waves of fear, backed up by swamping people with uniformed goons, and the threat of courts of law. ...... On the other hand, we have the rejection of fear as prime motivation for life. It is as simple as that. The moment you choose to reject fear, fear will increase it's attack on you. ...... It knows your decision, as on higher levels there are no secrets. ...... These attacks will hone your response, revealing just who you really are. Fear feeds on the fear generated by terrified people. ...... Love removes that food, forcing dark systems to starve. ...... THIS is why they attack so hard - they will wither and die if enough people open their hearts. This is why they attack your head so hard, calling white black and black white, so as to disorientate you into abject submission.

Norway refuses to cut gas prices for Europe: Norway will not demand that energy companies offer long-term fixed-price gas contracts as a way to alleviate soaring costs for European customers, Reuters reports, citing the country’s petroleum minister Terje Aasland. The minister pointed out that 20 years ago Brussels had itself abandoned the practice of long-term contracts in favor of the spot market, and now the Norwegian system “keeps the option for companies to enter into such contracts, based solely on economic interests.” Norway, which has overtaken Russia as Europe’s biggest gas supplier after Moscow cut flows, will curtail exports significantly next month due to heavy maintenance activity.

The liberal class know they can manipulate the masses using this type of hysterical fear mongering, in order to reap huge profits. They did so during the pandemic, and so will keep trying the same tactics.

Nationalise the British gas and oil fields and sort out the wholesalers and speculators. Last but not least, get Ukraine and Russia around the negotiating table and take off the Russian restrictions now!

People will die is a pretty broad and meaningless statement. If two people or thousands of people die, people died. While it is a crisis if you are one of the two, two people dying is not exactly a national crisis. Thousands of people dying, on the other hand probably would be.

We promiss they wont lack fuel this winter, and with theRuble at the highest in one generation, they will have a fair retribution for their efforts.
