Marshall Thompson tells Tom the history of The Chi-Lites
Marshall Thompson and Creadell Jones were part of the Desiderios, a vocal group in Chicago. They occasionally came up against the Chanteurs, whose members included Robert "Squirrel" Lester and Eugene Record. When those respective groups broke up, these four singers formed a new group called the Hi-Lites. That name was used by an East Coast group, so to let their fans know from where they hailed, they became The Chi-Lites. Marshall is the founder of the group and the sole surviving member. He has assembled an excellent group of singers to carry on the music of this great vocal group. Marshall tells Tom the history of The Chi-Lites. www.TomMeros.com rockroll-history@usa.net

He was very underrated. In my book a musical genius.
I can always tell Tom Meros is a genuine fan and life long listener, not just an interviewer researching artist the day before he interviews them. Respect
Always loved the Chi-lites and Blue Magic.💖
Chi lites are for ever icons.

Fantastic- one of THE greatest male vocal groups of all time. A fascinating interview
Songs of my youth, beautiful one of my all time favorite group. I cried to " have you seen her" by Chilites at age 21 when I thought my boyfriend at the time was was going to break up with me. We are now married fir 44 years.
👑The opening music is pure country and western and VERY COOL, COOL, AND REALLY COOL!!! MY HOME BOYS 4EVER!👑😊👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
1969/70 I was a freshman at Hampton Institute ( University) when the Chi-Lites came to campus, make it short, Marshall picked me out to introduce the group out of nowhere. I was NY cool I guess. These are not only great singers but even greater people. Will never forget
Great group, and Eugene was a helluva of a songwriter.
Thank you for recording this great history. I saw your interview of Henry Farnbrough of the Spinners and Marshall from the Chi-Lites. Very well done. It is pure gold. Your knowledge and familiarity with the subject matter adds value to the interview.
It's fascinating to me how these early groups are formed, how they got famous, lineup changes, how they break up, how they come back hopefully, and what they are doing now. I really like the relaxing bass, rhythm guitar, and drums of the Chi-Lites as well as the vocals.
Great interview 👍 thanks for sharing
I'm 68 years old and just realizing that the Chilites are my favorite group, I've seen all the famous groups, but they are the ones that I love the most, you have to listen to their catalog, the songs that never got any airtime was really their greatest songs, songs like (Give It Away), (Being in Love), and many more.
Have to honestly say, age is undefeated. I was just a lil kid when my teenage sister took me to a concert in Berkeley, CA at The Berkeley Community Center. The Chi Lites were on the bill. I remember Marshall clowning and cutting up on "Oh Let Me Be The Man My Daddy Was." Ah youth... This was followed by Gene hitting an exceedingly protracted hi note that seemed to go on forever which brought the house down. What a group and kudos to Tom for keeping these great memories alive and especially to Marshall for continuing the legacy. All the best.
Marshall Thompson.. the Harmonica and his big Afro!! The ChiLites!!!
“Give It Away” was the Chi-Lites’ first R&B hit in 1968.
Great Interview Tom Thank You!
Your majesty. The chi lites.
Have U Seen Her & Write A Letter r 2 of my favorite Chilites songs.
