Marshall Stockwell 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Soundtest and Review

Ғылым және технология

I review the successor to the original Marshall Stockwell portable bluetooth speaker. Spending most of the Summer with the unit I was able to put it through all the tests and give a full, comprehensive review.
The speaker is definitely more portable than the original Stockwell speaker, however it is also noticeably lower in volume. Once it is cranked to 7/8 this is a great speaker for the backyard, the beach and other fun outdoor activities - but be prepared to keep it near full volume.
The speaker features USB-c charging which is great for future proofing the unit - whereas the original Stockwell had a proprietary AC input.
This speaker also comes with a handy carrying strap, and quick-charge technology.

It actually has the ability to charge your devices, the same USB C in is a USB C out that can charge your phone / tablet and serves as a power bank

Very in-depth review. Marshall has a distinct look that you could spot from across the room...even if it didn’t have “Marshall” on it lol.

Listening to the sound test on Stockwell 2. This speaker is dope. I would give it 7.5 score for all the music and specifically for rock 9.5!

Refresh my memory - 6th gen is iPod touch ya? If so, as long as it has Bluetooth, it should work fine. I believe the iPod touch has Bluetooth 4.2.

@@QuickTechReviews Yes, Ipod touch. I like using it since then Im not wasting my memory on music and have it nicely separate, all in one place. I dunno which type of bluetoot it has but its enough to connect to Airpods and other wireless headphones, so I hope it will be ok:) Thanks a lot!

You might want to spring a few more bucks and grab Marshall’s higher end line (kilburn). The Stockwell 2 is more focused on portability and lifestyle.

I didn’t think so - it’s not advertised as such - but someone in the comments said that it does. Didn’t have a USB-C phone to try it with.

4:02 "...jack the unit up to 7 or 8 to get it audible". Is this a "thing" with modern BT speakers? I've noticed you need to turn it up to that level to get the equivalent volume of an older (or budget priced) BT speakers set at level 5.

Yea this speaker - for whatever reason - is really quiet. Not sure why Marshall did that, since the original Stockwell didn’t have that issue. Maybe they’re trying to bump up their battery life specs by keeping the speakers pretty quiet 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@QuickTechReviews Thanks for your reply. That would be a good explanation, but difficult to say since budget brands' batteries last just as long (without that volume...thing). By the way, my Bose Soundlink Mini 2 SE does this when connected via Bluetooth, but when connected using Aux port, the sound is thundering loud as normal. Does Marshall speakers do the same?

@@abdaziz8791 Well, i mean...I still use my macbook pro 2015 to edit all my YT videos, so maybe i'm the wrong person to ask about relevance! lol - but the Emberton doesn't have BASS and TREBLE knobs - which is a key feature in the Stockwell 1 and 2 - which I really liked... Thanks for the video review! You poo-poo'ed the AUX input, but it's what I try to use whenever possible!!!! Want to avoid BT radiation as much as I can :) Question (scoured the internet but didn't find answer): is there a way to turn Bluetooth off when in AUX mode? Or does the speaker turn BT off automatically when you use AUX? Can you please please check for me? I want the speaker not connectable or even discoverable (via Bluetooth scan) when in AUX mode.. i.e., BT should be TOTALLY off. Some speakers go into continuous pairing mode when AUX connected. Anyway, would much appreciate if you could check and let me know! Thanks again for your work... subscribed.

Thanks for the comment. Actually you get this feature with the original Stockwell speaker. I did a full review earlier on my channel and I actually prefer that speaker to this one in terms of sound, build quality and aesthetics. There's a dedicated bluetooth button which you can turn on and off on the original Stockwell. No such luck with the Stockwell II.

Thanks. But maybe it turns off BT when using AUX? If you still have the speaker, can you check? You'll need to check if a BT device can find the speaker by scanning. If you don't have access to the speaker still, no worries. Thanks.

Sounds good once you go above volume 6/7. Surprisingly low volume on a speaker geared to be an outdoor portable party speaker. The bass and treble knobs let you fine tune to improve even more.
