I was married for six years. There was no benefit to me mentally, emotionally, financially, spiritually, or otherwise. After the wedding and honeymoon, my life went back to normal, except I had a man under the same roof and more work. He wasn't the one cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, planning, and keeping up with the household for ME. I was doing all that for HIM, plus I worked and made just as much money as he did. There was no way I was having kids and taking on even more work, so marriage was useless to me. We got divorced because I refused to have a baby. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Agreed I've seen some women say to not marry for money but those women are probably still young and they haven't been through enough relationship yet to know that it's delusional thinking because if a guy is not constantly working and massively out earning you just don't ever get married you wont get anything out of it if you need to leave. I'm okay with dating while poor but not marrying them when there poor because that's rewarding bad behavior if they really loved you that much it would inspire them to excel and save money and if there constantly wasting money then they don't love you.

Trapped is a light word I use to describe my marriage- he lied from the beginning and yes, I vetted him. I didn't come to a marriage thinking I need or want a man, a pick me, something to show off or anything financial. I wanted a partner, to walk through life with, laugh, enjoy each other and yes, I wanted to have a least one child. I have the child, and he is magnificent, but that is all I have from my marriage. All I ended up is a deeper mistrust of people, especially men, severe anxiety and debt. I am working my way back to the light.

Personally I think selling us the concept of "weddings" since the craddle is propaganda. You grow up associating "marriage" with the idea of being dressed like a princess and eating delicious cake and being showered with attention and praises, you're told this will be the happiest day of your life and it cannot get any better than that. I'm not surprised some women take their wedding so seriously they become bridezillas, they are convinced they have no other purpose ! But no one talks about what happens after you get married.

All fairytales end with "happily ever after", yet there is no story on how that works, happy for whom exactly, we're only left to trust the word of the narrator. So in life too the perfect pretend fairytale relationship falls apart and magic leaves after "I do!". We're not supposed to dream about or expect happy married life in a tangible way and actual examples, only figure out that this "happily" is supposed to be faking a smile through drudgery unless you wanted a lobotomy, and it's too late now. Only the wedding party is a bait to strife for as that was enough cheese to mousetrap you legally. It is quite the propaganda.

We didn't have any assets together, and I got my house 6 years later. Marriage isn't that fantasy it's presented as, with the wrong man, it's hell. Even if you get married, have your own, career, and money. If he tries to control you or mistreat you, then it's easier to chuck the duces and leave.

Married. Marriage is one of the most beautiful partnship but only with the right person and the right reasons. I used to be scared of it because my parents divorced twice and it was a nightmare as their only child I was traumatized. My grand parents also had terrible marriages. I learned from their mistakes and asked Jesus to give me discernment in dating and the strenght to let go of men who were not right for me. Negative experiences are everywhere but don't let them consume you or give up on marriage for that. Marriage is not the problem find someone who wants the same thing as you and with whom you can be yourself then its a beautiful thing.

Marriage has a legal, cultural, and religious component. I can't call it a scam if I don't know which component(s) one married for. If your region doesn't recognize defacto relationships; if your faith doesn't recognize playing house and illegitimate children; if your culture determines marriage as a rite of passage and the union of families, then marriage will have its merits. If one's simply regretful of their choice to marry because they expected a different reality, then it will feel like a scam!

It doesn’t even take kids or giving up your career to become trapped. Women who end up becoming disabled or have an illness that disrupts their ability to earn can also become trapped even if they previously had a good career. Always prepare to take care of yourself on your own first and foremost.

If I were to ever marry a man, it would be thru civil marriage (living 7+ years together) and I want a private ceremony to save money, and I hate having so much attention on me (I'm autistic and I don't like attention or my pictures taken). I don't want a chunky flashy ring, I"m fine with my favorite stone, but I refuse to make the marriage legal via the government cause legal marriage is for insurance basically.

Even men who claim to be God fearing and deeply spiritual can be dangerous. My parents, married for 25 years and both of devout Christian faith, got married to each other when my Mom was in her late 20s and my Dad in his late 30s. They are both highly educated and with doctoral degrees in their respective fields. They were away abroad on a vacation. When my mother was sexually harassed and groped on the buttocks by a male family relative in my Dad’s presence, she laughed off the discomfort as a defense mechanism. Instead of seeing it as such, my Dad thought my Mom was somehow minimizing and encouraging the assault. He never defended her when this was happening or confronted the man. Instead, my father privately berated my Mom, his wife, for laughing at her assault, thinking she embarrassed HIM by laughing at her assault. My Dad has also planted tracking devices on my Mom, attempting to employ me and my siblings for “tech support”. He frequently verbally harasses my Mom in the presence of his children as well. I suspect he may be autistic but it’s no excuse for poor behavior. I’ve never looked at him the same since all of this. And he’s never truly acknowledged that pain he caused. I guess he hopes we have moved on and forgot about it. God fearing men aren’t always acting in good faith either so… 🤷🏾‍♀️

Uh...you can marry a spiritual man and still find out your sleeping with the devil. There are too many cases of pastors or religious men living a double life or like she said will wear a mask in public until you get home. Whether its cheating, domestic violence, spiritual abuse (using religion or the bible to trap your partner) or sexual assault. Just bc you go to church every Sunday and can quote scripture doesn't make you a suitable partner to nobody. Its often said that the devil was once an angel so you have to be careful.
