Marla Amplification S10V // Serious Bang for Your Buck!

Музыка

The S10V stands out as a versatile universal amplifier meticulously crafted to deliver distinctive tones across a spectrum of musical genres. Drawing inspiration from the early American Tweed amplifiers, its meticulously designed schematics and components ensure a vintage warmth that resonates through your playing.
At the heart of the S10V is its Class A output, which not only provides a rich midrange body but also captures the essence of iconic AC Style amps. Running hot with a single 6V6, this amplifier ventures into sonic territories that push the boundaries of what most single-ended 6V6 amps can achieve. The high voltage plates contribute to a unique reactivity reminiscent of classic British Lead tones, adding another layer of sonic exploration.
Whether you're seeking the gritty charm of American Tweeds, the midrange punch of AC Style amps, or the dynamic responsiveness of British Lead tones, the S10V serves as a bold and distinctive platform. Its versatility lays the foundation for creating a personalized sound that is as unique as your playing style, making it an essential companion for musicians seeking to explore new sonic landscapes.

Cool post. So…what does it look like inside? If it’s hand wired, it’s probably fine. Amps could be a serious bang for the buck until it’s time for repairs. Something that’s rarely discussed with these reviews. Just saw a Hughes & Kettner amp where some component changes (like replacing a broken pot) or troubleshooting will require removing FOUR circuit boards before being able to remove the main board housing the pots. It’s a complete disregard for service work. Of course I’m listening through a device but it sounds strident in the top end to my ears. Could be the speaker, brand of tubes (6V6’s can be that way and 6L6’s are often a better platform for pedals)…Orange Drop signal path caps that many techs use cause that’s what they think they should use without even trying other brands…or not the amp at all. Maybe the guitar or even the mic used to record the demo…maybe it’s just me 🤷🏽‍♂️ …from a New York amp tech for 35 years

love this comment! Theres a few internal shots on Daniel Seriff's video comparison. Simple layout, no PCBs, all on hand soldered onto a turret. More complex builds around the corner! The amp is a good bit brittle on the top end. You nailed the Orange Drop, new speaker and new 6v6 comment, but the sweep on the tone control is wide enough to roll most of this off, especially as the components warm up over time.

12in Mojotone Anthem 8ohm. I tried Jensens - too fizzy / barky, I tried some GT12-65s - loved em. And then a friend at Mojotone asked me to try the Anthem, and I found it to be a phenomenal mix of Jensen's classic American brights & break up and the roundedness of a higher watt Celestion.

    20 күн бұрын

@@sharkair2839 Hey Shark, Not yet, but yes, it's in the plans for late next year. I plan to bring the S10V to a dealer network early next year and towards the end of the year i'll let dealers do "exclusive options"... one of those options will be a small cab with a 10in speaker... so it's a ways away and there are two other (higher wattage) models I plan to release before then, so demand on those new products might delay some of these plans. I'm already about 2 months behind on an upcoming release... I say all that to say, it's not something i'd wait for, but it's worth keeping an eye out for. You might see a "head" version before then than you'll want to pair with a separate 10in cab. Lastly, fun story, the 3rd 10w prototype that I built for a local shop (HeyDay Music) back in 2020 was bought by a harp player. They said he tried every small amp in the building and the 10w Marla (with a 12in) was the clear winner to his ears.

yeah, i mean Ryguy is right. here are a few things I do to pass savings along to customers: No tolex will save you a bunch For every batch I build I'll take a 12 hour round trip to pick up large components, this saves me ~600-800 in freight, and I like to pass that savings along to customers. I don't have Marla branded boxes. They ship in basic box so you can tell your loved ones its a new toaster, not a new amp. haha The Anthem is also well underpriced for what it is, so this adds a bunch of value without adding too much costs. This amp not having reverb saves costs and having limited controls (simple tone) saves on time / costs. I also omit things like attenuation and less common I/O features (line outs, USB outs, etc...) I also don't outsource things like cab / chassis design so my initial costs are somewhat lower than other launched products. Oh and the 799 is a limited Promotional Launch Price! like Ryan said, they go up to 869.00 on 3/6/24 - order quick if you want one!

Agreed on the endless soloing comment you’ve made a few times. A certain demo’er, who does nothing but play endless pentatonic scales, poorly I might add, while never once trying to showcase the gear, is lame. Nobody plays 3 minute songs made up of solos. I’m honestly not sure why demo’ers like that even get sent gear anymore. They’re not doing builders any favors
