I wanted to ask if the belief/superstition that... 'each hive being marked differently on the outside will help newly mated queens survive and get back to the right hive box' is true?

I know this is well past it but to fix the box simple hot wire knife tool to slice the side off then a bit of foam safe CA glue such as UFO or Bob Smith (BSI) to make hot wire knife build wooden yoke frame stretch a guitar string across the open end and power from old cell phone charger
