    I'm a former RGP / Returned Goods Processing supervisor from Rickel Home Center. Rickel's "Customer Friendly" return policy in the mid 90's was one of the worst marketing strategies I've ever seen! The policy basically said that any item purchased at any Rickel Home Center store could be returned at any time, NO questions asked, which means we couldn't even ask the person why they were returning the item. They could volunteer that info if they chose to, but we couldn't ask. Also, no receipt was required, and a person could return an item for another similar item or for full store credit. The problem was, without a receipt there was no way to confirm if the person actually bought the item at Rickel Home Center, or when they bought it, or if they even bought it at all. There were literally people returning filthy 50 year old toilets, rusted pipes, old rotted lumber, etc and they'd say they bought them at Rickel and weren't happy with their purchase. The store would have to take the items without questioning the customer at all, and then give store credit or a replacement. At one time stores were even giving people cash. So people would shoplift at Rickel or other stores, and then bring the stolen merchandise to a Rickel store saying they changed their minds and then they'd get free cash or store credit (which they would then sell to other customers in the store). I can't say if this policy had anything to do with Rickel going out of business....but it's definitely one of the worst policies I've seen for a company. There is such a thing as being TOO customer friendly 😂

    When I was little, my brother's first job was at Rickel. My whole family still laughs about the time he somehow got locked in the store after closing, and set off the alarms! He had to wait hours for the manager to come back and let him out. Back on an edit. It was before cellphones were common, and it took all that time to track the manager down.

    When coca-cola tried to launch Dasani water into the UK market, they forgot to check their American adverts would be culturally appropriate. Their "get some spunk" and variations of the Spunk wording fell flat. The primary reason being "Spunk" in the UK is a term for Semen. Either the item itself, or as a verb to describe ejaculation. It never returned to shelves and was eventually replaced with Smart Water after coca-cola acquired the brand

    There's a grocery store chain in the South called Publix. In Florida (which has a large Hispanic population) Publix thought it would be a great idea to change some of their existing grocery stores into Spanish only stores called Sabor. THEY FAILED! They ended up isolating their English speaking customers, who flat out refused to shop at a Spanish Publix, and isolated their new Hispanic customers by having high prices and not realizing that many Hispanics in the area shop at Walmart (which is much cheaper). There are a few Sabors still open but not for much longer. Publix will run stores at a loss just to not admit defeat. Publix also had a disaster when they tried to open their own restaurant chain called Crispers. Yet another failure. This company is run by a bunch of old Southerners who wouldn't know a fresh new idea if it hit them in the face.

  • @shannond7437

    @Star Brand While any company has some failures, you couldn’t be more wrong about “a bunch of old southerners not knowing a fresh new idea if it hit them in the face.” Maybe do further research on the benefits of being an employee and customer of Publix. 🙄

  • @starbrand3726

    @starbrand3726

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@shannond7437 I stand by what I said. Publix does nothing innovative. All they do is copy, copy, copy, what other companies do. If Disney does it, then Publix will do it too (allowing workers to have facial hair). If Kroger's does it, then Publix will follow right behind (putting up plastic shields to protect workers from Covid19). Allowing workers to wear mask and gloves during this global pandemic? Target, Kroger's and Walmart ALL did that before Publix. So please name some of these "benefits" of being a Publix employees. Stocks? Sure, underpay your employees but offer stock instead. Never laying off employees? Well that's a clever twisting of the truth. Publix doesn't lay people off, but what they do, do is under utilize their people, scheduling them less and less until they finally are forced to quit. Sneaky and unethical. And don't get me started on Publix's numerous discrimination lawsuits. Go into several Publix and look at the wall of manager photos, then count how many Black managers there are. I'll bet you the number you get is proportionally smaller than it should be compared to other companies.

    Star Brand Curious if you are liking your own comment as it was clicked as soon as it was posted 🤔 Were you possibly fired by PubliX? It’s hard not to get a personal vendetta feeling from you. Putting up shields at this point shouldn’t even be on a list of anything besides an already established recommendation of common sense. My local store had the one way aisles established weeks before the others if we are nitpicking. Publix is one of the VERY few American companies in all professions that offer health insurance (and they offer other benefits as well unlike most of the already very few) to ALL employees regardless of status. When companies many offer perks or benefits this often leads to employee complaints, as certain people have to ruin all good things. The fact that many disabled associates are hired & taken care of by Publix says a lot about them. I believe Goodwill should be a source to truly complain about endless conditions and treatment. Doing “something new” like in their case isn’t always a positive thing, typically the opposite. Regardless of your personal feelings, the company stands as one of the best retailers for employees. Their wages for all levels is well above average & this is in addition to their stock payments. No company is perfect, but they are far from worthy of your description. I wish you good fortune in your online wars to come, I will leave you be.✌️

    @@shannond7437 No war. And no, I was never fired from Publix, but I have many friends who have told me nightmare stories about their treatment from this company. I have spent hours researching law books and legal websites in an effort to help them when Publix has abused them, use them, and several times violated the law. I will admit that Publix does vary state to state. With the Florida Publix being the worst. The bitterness comes from people who read the Publix lies about being a great company far beyond others, when in truth, it's no better than any other out there. Read the Publix employee's Reddit and see for yourself just how hated this company is. And... of course I liked my own comment. If you don't like yourself, who will? 😉

They alienated many diehard Coca Cola drinkers in the process. They partially redeemed themselves with Coke Classic and eventually took the New Coke out and returned the name Coke to the Coke Classic brand.

    The Pepsi one with the jet isn't unique, its happened in the past in the UK. Embasy cigarettes from the 50s to 80s had coupons to redeem for prizes. A pair of newlyweds needed a car, 1 million coupons for the car. They had their family and friends help out and eventually had a million coupons. The company didn't have a car.....they were forced by law to give them a new car. A little cheaper then a jumpjet.

    I see why the court ruled in Pepsi's favor for that, but the problem is that it sets a legal precedence that basically gives a loophole for false advertising. "Oh, you actually thought the commercial was serious? Well sorry, we don't have you give you anything because we were just joking, couldn't you tell? Oh you want a refund? Too bad, all sales are final. Thanks for giving us so much of your money sucker!"

    Taco Bell brought out little tacos and burritos and sold them in 30 packs. Meant to hustle in on the market like chicken wings... It took about as long to make a tiny taco as a full sized one. And they were being sold in 30 packs. Stores had the assembly lines elbow to elbow furiously making tiny tacos. This takes time. Drive through times SOARED. Sometimes over an hour. Corporate was was being buried by customer complaints and wage overhead was out of sight. Finally a really highly placed corporate person just randomly visited a franchise. They got back to the office and the promotion ended and the teeny tiny tacos disappeared just like that.

    You can also include the 2001 fiasco promo campaign "quer pagar quanto" / "how much you wanna spend" 2001 from the Casas Bahia, a Brazilian franchise. A customer (and lawyer, no less) bought lots of things spending only R$10.00 (about US$4.50 back then). To make it worse, female sellers who had to wear the logo on a button became harrasement targets from buyers and male sellers, resulting on legal suings.
