MARK'S NOTCAST Ep 388 : Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut" 1982-1983. 10 June 2024

Described as "The Final Straw" by David Gilmour, the final album that Roger Waters made with Pink Floyd in 1982-1983, is subtitled "A Requiem For The Post-War Dream" and is about as cheery as it sounds. A dense 12 song concept album about war, politics, and the failure of idealism to defeat conflict and oppression, it's made of songs that didn't fit "The Wall", extra songs designed to stitch the spare parts together, underpinned against the backdrop of the Falklands War. Propositioned as a solo LP, with the band disintegrating, it's a powerful, but joyless album that painted the band into a corner. 10 June 2024.

Agree 100% with your placement of Tigers. Never really thought about it before. I had a tape of this album in the 90s and I always thought tracks 3-6 were up there with the best. These days I have to be in the mood but when I am it’s a rewarding experience. The Not Now John video is amazing

Back To Back Bangers. My favourite Moz record followed by the Floyd's most underappreciated. Hoozah! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on TPACOH (as nobody calls it) 👍

"The Final Cut" is my second favorite Pink Floyd album "Obscured By Clouds" is their best - it flows into Rogers masterful Solo stuff perfectly and proved he didn't need that depressed loser Richard and Dave, Syd's replacement - when you have Snowy White. Pink Floyd albums stunk after Roger left - I am currently surrounded by Cradle Of Filth Albums so watching this is a right turn of sorts. Also with Russian War ships in Cuba within Striking distance of the Great Satan it could be curtains for them and I for one, welcome it, sadly you and France will be next - don't play with Bears they are hairy and can run full speed up trees. "Two Suns in the sunset - Could be the human race is run" - Me I'll be fine, way out of range

@@markreed4543 I Live in the land of Billionaire bunkers at the bottom of the world (or it could be side of the world really depends on which angle your spaceship is taking on approach) So when the ship goes down they will all run here - Unfortunately they don't realize that not only will they not be safe they will be hunted for sport, Zuck built his in Hawaii so we won't have him also he likes to throw spears at things. I just hope my Eels and Bowie box sets get here before it turns custard.

I find this record difficult. I’m Team David rather than Team Roger, while I think I understand the points Roger is trying to make I just don’t like his hectoring and moaning & there’s nothing musically to water (pun intended) down the Rogerness of it.

I love Pink Floyd. I've tried to get into The Final Cut. It's so tedious, meandering, bleak, and boring. It's a slog
