Mark's world-weary been-through-shit tone here couldn't be better. You buy every word of it. As in everything he does, he doesn't sing the lyrics, he lives them. Genius, the man is a genius.

Mimi Speike Dylan's voice has deteriorated painfully. Mark's gets better and better. But his strength was never his way with melody, it was always his integrity and power of delivery and interpretation. I do confess that I am partial to the smooth grittiness (how's that for an encapsulation?) of the On The Night years. He's lost some of that, but since I fear that it was the result of his smoking, which he's given up, I can live with the loss.

This is the best interpretation of this song that I've ever heard. Bob Dylan wrote so many gems like this, but he never took the time to record them right. He just churned them out. He could have done so much more with such songs as this that he wrote. Another good example is "Lay Down Your Weary Tune". If it had not been for The Byrds, that one would have been lost too. I'm glad that others came along and realized what these songs were worth, and did something with them. Kudos to Mark for this rendition of Restless Farewell.

Mark does a splendid job on this song, but we all know he is one of the greats. Yet, I know of many of Bob's gems an amazing version done by Bob himself. Some people have the spirit, but then always each in it own special way.

Lets be fair. The original tune comes from the Irish tradition via the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. Bob rewrote the words , and very well too, but with the same theme. Well done Clancys, Bob and Mark.

Bob Dylan has his idols too. He loved Woody Guthrie, he loved Clancy Brothers. Lord, he even loved Elvis. But that doesn't mean he "ripped off" anyone... This is an ignorant comment. His music was inspirational. He wrote "Like a Rolling Stone", not because he was once homeless and starving without food. He wrote that because he could use his imagination, and translate it into his genius lyrics and music. Go figure if you can

Very Old Irish melody - used by many, including The Clancy Brothers for their lyrics to The Parting Glass. Bob Dylan used the same melody for his lyrics to "Restless Farewell" - the Folk movement did this..... it is acceptable to keep the tradition going ...

PARTING GLASS... The song Restless Farewell written by Bob Dylan and featured on The Times They Are a-Changin' from 1964 is heavily based on The Parting Glass. if you follow the walking dead, Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan did a version that leaves me in tears every time bc of what was to happen... Oh all the money that e'er I spent I've spent it in good company And all the harm that e'er I've done Alas it was to none but me And all I've done for want of wit To memory now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all ... Oh all the comrades that e'er I've had are sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that e'er I've had would wish me one more day to stay But since it falls unto my lot That I should rise and you should not I'll gently rise and I'll softly call Good night and joy be with you all Good night and joy be with you all
