In 1981 when I was a Captain in the U.S. Army, I met a fellow officer while I was on temporary duty at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas. We had an intense relationship for about a month. It was a "once in a lifetime" experience. We parted ways and I have never seen her again. Every time I hear this song, I think of her. This is a beautiful rendition by Mark Knopfler and Ruth Moody. The saxophone player during the interlude really sets the mood.

I had a friend who passed away after battling breast cancer, eventually succumbing to an inoperable brain tumour. The line "your star is fixed in my sky" gets me every time. This ones for you Lisa.

He could play guitar forever, never too long, so beautiful

Saw him with Eric Clapton back in '88 in Portland. 35 years on and still the best concert I've ever seen. Eric was amazing but he was outgunned by Mark. Had no idea how lucky I was to see them together at the time.

Today is my 50th Birthday and as I am celebrating on solo mode MK's lyrics and guitar works brings back all my journey in life in 50 years...touches me wholistically...he is a "genius" that touches the soul the persona...

Mark's voice has always been my #1 meditation go to. Even in Dire Straits. Such an original. That voice can never be duplicated. And that guitar.....lawd have mercy!!! I married him in my dreams so many times in the last 43 years lol

That is one of my favorite songs that he has written. I know it was from his heart. I'm sure we've all known of a situation , whether friend or family...., where a connection has been broken for whatever reason, but the love is still there and always will be. 😢

I just recently lost my Twin Brother and now I carry the pain he shared with me for year's. I was his only family. It was so hard to hear the pain he carried and the damage of us never being wanted as children the abomination of abuse from extremely bad parenting. He had a very deep soul and was just such a beautiful person, in mine and many others lives. He even donated all of his entire estate to a local University worth millions. So as to educate young adults to become someone they want to be, to literally make dreams come true.How many young adults will be able to go-to school in My "Beloved Brothers Name". This song with Mark's Beautiful Word's and with Ruth's Angelic voice tells a story of me saying my goodbyes to my brother. A salute to my brothers last goodbye. I have always believed in the stars and it's glorious heavens. I turn on my usual heels before I say my final Goodbyes. I don't believe in goodbys I believe we will see everyone we have meet no matter how small (saying to keep your books in order) tomorrow is never promised. We all are fragile that is what makes us stronger!! Be Good do Great Thing's No Matter How Small you may feel.How soothing the sounds of the water the beautiful black and white filming is a work of art in it's self.The gravel under his feet, his goodbys hanging of the coat on the broken ship all tie themselves together for me. Yes, thanks to MK I discovered Ruth's career, but also Emilou Harris's and Chet Atkins ! So many names we won't hear off in the netherlands. Somewhere country and folk is dull and boring.. Can't figure it out why.. it's just a great genre inside the 'songwriters' genre !
