It blows my mind that so many people are so hateful of him when he is in fact doing something positive in a sector that is so corrupt and powerful , just because he isn’t a Elon/Trump goon …. His advocacy for fairness and transparency in such a brutally restrictive and self serving corporate interest sector should be celebrated and appreciated not torn down and bad mouthed because he has a different political leaning than you . Yet another reason why I despise two party politics . Its near impossible for anything good to be fought for when the total aims are for destruction of the other side

I guess I just don’t understand the concern about it in the business world. EEO prevents companies from discriminating based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc. The 2 companies I’ve worked for in the last decade have both had DEI departments, and they host some trainings and optional seminars but I’ve never heard of them influencing hiring decisions or trying to shame or guilt anyone. Just tried to promote general awareness and understanding of people’s differences. An example would be, oh if you are going to take your team to lunch, check in to see if anyone has dietary restrictions before you choose the restaurant, either for religious or other reasons. So yeah I feel like people that haven’t had direct experience with DEI in a company think it’s a much bigger deal than it is.
@patrickozga3486
Ай бұрын
@@kylewilliams6769 The D in DEI stands for diversity, which is a dog whistle for less white people, simple as. SCOTUS ruled that race based quotas in universities are in fact discriminatory. Fallowing that logic, the same goes for all other sectors of the economy. If you mandate that your company must fill a specific percentage of their ranks by a certain groups, that intrinsically means that you will discriminate against others based on their immutable characteristics because you are hiring based on category and not merit or credentials. But I guess there needs to be a lawsuit from each sector that travels up the court system to address this madness. Its hard to believe this has to be explained.
Such a dishonest guy. "Nobody is forcing DEI on companies", meanwhile the state/federal government force DEI quotas on corporations.

If you're a white 7 footer whose reasonably athletic, with solid fundamentals and a good jump shot, he'd gladly give you a shot. That's all Dei is, they're giving qualified people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to apply. And funny enough, what the NBA is doing in Europe by recruiting often white Euroleague players is, in a sense, very similar to most to Dei initiatives. The people they're hiring are qualified, they're just not white which is what rubs people the wrong way. White people feel like their going to get hired out of the economy which is silly. DEI dosent mean don't hire white people, it just means recruit a little more ethnically diverse qualified people. That's it. Anything else is mindless Neo Goebbels talking points.

@@citizenblue I agree. People who only stick to one side are never really right either, despite what they think. You get a much more realistic and accurate view of things when you're not biased and take in all sides of an issue. Politics is like that a lot right now. Both the left and the right are both way off because both sides are so biased and unrealistic, and they are really only hearing things from people who agree with them, and they aren't realistic on opposing issues anyway, and definitely aren't legitimately listening. Confirmation bias specifically leads both sides to being wrong a lot of the time in politics and basically all issues. Politics is just an example though. This interview with Mark Cuban was excellent, the most timely and important interview I have seen here. It changed my perception of Cuban and my perception of Lex. Huh that had nothing to do with what I said.
Watching mark cuban gaslight about corporate DEI really ruined the interview
Such a great podcast, I might not agree with Mark on some topics but I need to give it to him that he is such a sharp guy and great speaker. It was a pleasure to listen to him for 2 hours
Mark Cuban’s wealth is hindering his ability to see reality. His perspective on DEI is both incorrect and insincere. Like many advocates for DEI, he simply breaks down the terms-diversity, equity, and inclusion-portraying them as inherently beneficial. While on a superficial level, most people might agree with these ideals, many do not fully understand their implementation or recognize the potentially corrosive impact they can have on society.

The Supreme Court already made a ruling on the race based enrollment policies of universities in America and found it unconstitutional. Why should we prioritize one race over another in society doesn’t this go against equality and the civil rights act of 1964?

IMO, Mark Cuban isn't nearly as fascinating or talented as publicly submitted. I mean, he was a geek who scored perfectly back in the halcyon days of the early tech 2000's. He should simply consider himself as such, but in the lonely confines of wealth, one becomes somewhat compensatory, attempting to make up for all that luck.

When he said if he was starting right now from nothing, he could build a million dollar company because he's a good salesman, etc. I thought that's fair enough that he probably could. But then he goes further and says he could most likely build a $100m+ company as if it was just easy. And that's when you know he's a bit out of touch. If you work hard, are charismatic, and get some lucky breaks, you can be quite wealthy. But $100ms takes all that and big opportunities that HAVE to come your way

He does consider himself as such. He says like 15 times how much of his success was due to that luck.
By the time I was turning 25 I had been fired from every job I'd ever had. Never collected a dime of unemployment because I refused to stand in line. Started a business in '75 with no money and a part time sales person and a part time receptionist. Never borrowed a dime until the end of '78 when I got a $5 million line of credit at 3.5% over prime. Prime went to 18% the next year. 1/3 of my customers were slow pay. 1/3 of my customers were still in business but no pay. 1/3 of my customers were out of business by '79. Shut down in '80 and went back to basics, kept one of my 5 balance sheets, and have been working from home ever since. Overhead is like fat, easy to put on, hard to take off.

Mark will turn himself into a pretzel to not be wrong. Entertaining when you don't care about the topic, depressing when you do. I feel like he thinks things cannot be emergent. People's behavior, company policy, etc -- they're all well thought out, rational actions. What's more compelling, IMO, is the idea that Lex is trying to put forward: company policy, people's behavior -- they're largely emergent. DEI emerged as a sort of secular religion during the pandemic. Companies added DEI arms bc it seemed in line with the cultural norm. It wasn't simply an effort to expand the applicant pool (which is not at all what those teams did); it was to comply with then-cultural norms. And bc they had no practical business purpose, DEI orgs were the first to go during the 2022 layoffs
I was surprised that ESG didn't come up. I felt Cuban was about 5 levels dumber than Lex and was trying to overtalk Lex because he knew he looked dumb going after Elon.

Without weighing in on the DEI debate within the comments, its interesting what a hot button issue it is that the most comments and liked comments at the top are by far about DEI. I felt like it was one of many many topics touched, some more substantiative. I can see both sides of the debate, and wish it wasnt such another wedge for everyone to hate on each other.

It's because the underlying concept is discrimination based on race, sex, and sexual orientation. It's just done in a way that spins it to make it sound acceptable. I'm all for inclusion, but that shouldn't be something that gets someone a job over another person. It all sounds nice in theory, until you realize Asians who are more qualified with higher test scores, are being denied entry to colleges in favor of less qualified individuals... Simply because of race.

The problem is that Lex's purely collaborative model is useful only for letting the public know the larger context of a given figure's thoughts in casual format. We don't get the needed exposition of these characters through their response to better researched, harder questions. I don't mean the rude, interrupting shut-downs of MSM abusive interviewers but questions legitimately in the public interest. The interview with Besoz was a particular and pointed failure in that regard.
Thank you for your time and this great conversation. This is the sort of debate needed in politics and leadership in general. : - )
Marks criticism about conservatives being for centralized power is correct, we conservatives do contradict ourselves, we should be more for decentralization of power across the board
