Marjory Stoneman Douglas Animation

I decided to animate this after it was brought to my attention that the police's animation wasn't the most accurate, and I primarily used the linked safety commission as a reference. I'm also still working on what might be the final Columbine animation, so I'm trying to get it as high of quality as I can.

So Meadow Pollack tried to sacrifice herself to save her friend by pushing her into the corner and covering her body with her own?? So sad they both died.

Seems like it. But sadly i think in a situation like this, your mind is rushing and that was her way of protecting her friend, instead of letting the other run 😕 its sad shootings even happen and people have to go with their instincts like that 😕

She didn't push her and they probably didn't know each other since Meadow was a senior and Cara a freshman. From what I've read, Cara was paralized in fear and wasn't able to runaway with the others, Meadow, after being shot 4 times, saw her and crawled over to try to shield her but the shooter walked up to them and shot Meadow five more times, killing both of them.

@@milk572 There were two armed guards at the school, and they both didn’t enter the building when the shooting happened. I think that’s what the comment was referring to there. It might also be talking about before the shooting. There were many times when things could have been done ahead of time to intervene and stop Cruz’s access to guns, and ideally help him. There was one situation where Cruz literally directly threatened to shoot up the school. And one of his family friends tired to report it. Under Florida law, that threat online would have been enough to get his guns away from him. But the police officer responding to the call was misinformed about the laws. So he told the woman reporting it that it was “free speech”, and he was allowed to do it, and the police never acted upon that. Obviously someone threatening to shoot up a school does not fall under freedom of speech, and the police officer made a big mistake. But that’s just one of many many missed opportunities. It’s amazing just how much the school board and police department fucked up just because they didn’t want to make their record look bad by dealing with this troubled kid. And eventually it lead to this awful shooting after they just ignored the situation.

@@YeeYee-fd2lm Nah, he wasn’t bullied anymore than anyone else at the school particularly. He was just born with a whole bunch of mental issues, and all the places around him just didn’t care about dealing with them. I think the biggest direct factor was his mother passing away from illness. By that I mean, if his mother didn’t pass away then, the shooting wouldn’t have happened. So any “bullying” wasn’t enough of a factor for the shooting to have happened regardless of anything else. He also never gave “everybody makes fun of me :(“ as a motivation. He definitely felt isolated from other people, but never really harboured direct resentment for anyone teasing him or anything. It was more he felt nobody really cared about him.

To survive an active shooter scenario you have three options. 1. Run: get out. This is your best chance at survival. Try to convince others to run, but do not wait for them. Time is key, the longer you wait, the worse your chances. Call for help as soon as you are safe. 2. Hide: only if you cannot run, if you are trapped or there is a good chance of your escape being compromised. The students and teachers on the second floor did this, and suffered no casualties. Turn off phones, block entry. Cover, which can stop a bullet, is better than concealment which simply hides you. 3. Fight: only when you cannot run and if your hiding place is compromised. If you are hiding you should be preparing to fight if discovered. Use items in the room as weapons. Even pens can be useful when aimed at the eyes. There is strength in numbers. This is for defense only. Do not leave a hiding spot to search for the killer.

Of the ten students who ran, 2 were injured, 2 were killed. The ones who stayed behind in the alcove were all killed. In this situation, 80% chance of survival if you run, 0% chance of survival if you don’t. If you find yourself within close proximity of the active shooter, run, don’t hide.

Not only do you seem to have indirect references to the christchurch mosque shooter Brenton Tarrant (having an alt-right meme that he frequently used AND having a song that he blasted in the livestream of the shooting in your playlist) but you seem to have a disturrbing fascination with mass shooters and guns. An obsession and idolization of mass shooters and guns are obvious signs of a potential mass shooter. I apologize, but maybe if you don't want to bring any attention to yourself you shouldn't use that profile picture.

I haven't really researched the Kenya mall shooting, so I don't know. Like with the Wal-Mart shooting, if I find more information (i.e. maps and body placements), I'll definitely do that. His gun jammed, so he couldn’t really shoot himself even if he wanted to. It’s the reason he stopped shooting at the windows and ran away in the first place. He realized he couldn’t fire anymore, and realized shooting through the windows wasn’t working, so he just dropped his gun there and ran out.

I’m not judging the survivors, bc most of us would do the same and they didn’t have many options, but I feel a sense of abandonment for most of the hallway deaths. Like the kid who left Joaquin after he said he couldn’t run. And all those left behind as the teacher and uninjured students ran for the stairs. All the people who couldn’t get into locked rooms to hide. Truly distressing.

@@thereisnocarolinHR It is difficult to asses heroism in these situations, also you must look at it logically. Going back could endanger yourself further as you attempt to rescue somebody, especially if the person you are trying to save is injured and can’t move, making the rescue attempt hard to complete. In your selfless attempt to rescue someone who is hurt, you could inadvertently end up being a casualty in addition to the person you are trying to save versus not saving them and they would be the only casualty. You should always evaluate your own safety before aiding others, especially in an active shooter scenario where time is of essence. Additionally, if you are protecting a group, temporarily leaving them to save a straggler could expose the now open group to more danger. You need to also evaluate the group’s safety over one person’s. There is no right answer, but keeping a sane and level head in these scenarios is key in order to balance logically right and morally right decisions to see the best case scenario. It’s also prudent to mention, that in these scenarios, people’s survival instincts are turned on, making rational decision making hard to snap into. Also these were children, most children still do not have the adult “protect the young” instinct turned on, which is why you saw several teachers die, as they defended the students to their death.

They could hear the shots, but it wasn’t that clear until he got to the second floor. So people just followed the fire drill procedures, because they weren’t really sure what was going in initially. And if everyone else on the floor is doing it, group thought sort of takes over. By the time it was clearly gunshots, not everybody had enough time to get back to the classrooms.
