Mario vs. Donkey Kong reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on Nintendo Switch.
"Coming in the wake of Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s psychedelic splendour, Mario vs. Donkey Kong’s update of the 2004 Game Boy Advance version is a markedly more modest Mario adventure in scope, but I still enjoyed puzzling my way through its trap-riddled rooms while they lasted - particularly those found in its playful pair of brand new worlds that have interesting new takes on the decades-old mechanics. The lopsided difficulty of its main levels could have perhaps been better smoothed out so that it becomes more challenging as you go rather than easier, and some occasional control flaws seemed below the standard I’ve come to expect from Nintendo platformers, but its completely overhauled art is packed with personality and its two-player co-op mode puts a fun new spin on familiar gameplay. Mario vs. Donkey Kong might not be as polished as a Mini-Mario toy fresh off the assembly line, but it's just as full of charm and fun to play with."

Nintendo needs to remember that they have more franchise besides Mario and Zelda. Starfox is due for a comeback.

It's weird that Star Fox entirely skipped the Switch era (Unless you are counting the StarFox DLC in Starlink). Metroid Dread exists, but a new Star Fox game is years away

Why isn’t it a Mario vs. Donkey COLLECTION with build in DESIGNER like Mario Maker? The package is far too small for the price point.
Besides Mario, Pokémon or Zelda, how about a new F-Zero game.
New console coming soon, 80% of the calendar are remakes
Missed opportunity on making this a remake collection with both MvDK games.

Hearing the reviewer say "scooping up all the mini mario toys and shoving them into his sack" is... A line that was said out loud.
Didnt think Id like it, gf bought it anyway, loved it. Its addictive, fun, engaging and surprisingly challenging.
It looks like a fun “pass the time” kinda game but the price isn’t justified.

What’s more, Nintendo has advertised this as a “mainstream” game, even though it’s a gba game just remade. They need to release games like this as side notes to bigger and better titles with Donkey Kong and Starfox at this point.

The pixel graphics looked great on the GBA at the time. You have to realize how small the screen was, and when you stretch them out of course it will look bad.

This series was always surprisingly fun engaging. People are saying this looks like a smartphone game, but it came out before that standard was set. Still, $50 for an old GBA game is mmm... not appetizing.

As someone who grew up playing the sequel on the DS, it’s nice to see it on the switch but disappointing that they didn’t remake all three games into one package. It’s definitely not worth full price it’s worth more like $20

Especially in graphics and sound especially the GBA original, looked more pixelated than An Atari 2600 game, and the sound was more scratcher than a Sega Genesis game. The remake is a marked improvement on both those areas.

The original had wayyyy better music, along with the opening cutscenes, also the opening intro music is way off. They just polished this, which is ok but they took away a lot of key elements of the game. The score system is gone as well, drop an update and let us use the original music along with the original music cut scenes. They offered it in Mario party superstars so why not here as well

the only reason you say that is because they acted like it should be a follow up to Wonder. They planted that seed (no pun intended) already.
